Making The Coolest Small Parts Organizer - Woodworking

Neil Pasken (Pask Makes - / paskmakes ) challenged me to do my take on his very popular small parts organizer. His has swing out drawers that rotate on a pivot and are triangular, while mine also has the same kind of drawers but they are rectangular and "butterfly" open. His is free standing while mine is designed to be mounted on a wall or the side of a cabinet, or sit on a shelf.
A fun project and actually very practical - these drawers will hold a lot of small parts and fasteners and operate smoothly. You can upsize it as well or make the drawers shorter which makes the cabinet narrower. I used maple and walnut but this can be made with any type of wood, even softwood.

This would make a good jewelry box if slightly squarer, maybe a washer would stop the drawer pull out? You could use brass pins instead of screws. I really like this design, thanks for sharing.

    Very nice project, John.
Maybe a way to open the drawer one at a time without having to hold the others, could be to add a small magnet on the back panel inner side that match to a small metal insert on the drawer. In this way the magnet should help keep them shut and allowing to open them one by one.

I think the only thing I would, consider changing is using a metal rod,in place of the dowel for the pivot which would allow a smaller diameter to be used. Perhaps brass, given that it’s inspired by Neil😁. I’m still in awe of your wood dissection skills though.

Beautiful small parts boxes John. You mentioned that sometimes a second drawer will be dragged open and you have to hold it back. Would small, very thin plastic washers placed between the drawers help with that? You'd have to make them yourself probably but that is right up your alley.
