Today, let's talk about one of the most broken league of legends champions of all time, the old quinn, and her place in league of legends history. From a champion who was known for being terrible for ADC or Bot Lane, to being a top tier top lane meta champion, to now being a champion who has a problem finding how to be OP again in league of legends. Oh god, what’ll they do to azir, anivia, and udyr “ult”?!?!
I think the reworked quinn ult works a lot better though. Sure there's "taxi" jokes but quinn's theme is beastmaster ranger and Valor is doing everything if feels like a ranger companion should be doing. Scouting the enemy, transporting the ranger to reposition, distracting and marking the enemy to provide opportunities for the ranger to follow up. If fits quite nicely.
Xayah and Rakan rework: Remove them
"Quinn didn't benefit from the recent adc buffs" and that's ok. Thank god.

Ah, back in the days when maxing the stun first was the way to go on Riven. I'm not sure when they changed that, but I do remember that they removed a massive amount of damage from the W to the Q at one point, which changed the way Riven was played in lane.

I love to play Quinn, she is perhaps my favorite champion. I think that the only think she needs is some love. I have recently stopped playing her for mastering characters like Ekko and Aphelios, but after this video, I couldn't be more proud of being a Quinn main.
When you play against Quinn there's such a big power dynamic it's like playing another game. She is so stupidly opressive.
That's true. There are several champs that make you sweat, be in constant tension, but overall they all have some sort of counter, or at least a way to play against them so you can do good (there are some matchups that can't be played though but that's a different thing). But Quinn is different, unless the players has the iq of a table, they're gonna beat you, not only physically but mentally. It could also happen with teemo but you already know that it's a cancerous champ, and you can play passive and build defensively and do something. Against Quinn you can't. Laning against her is like a race. You gotta do it perfect and you gotta do it fast unless you don't want to have any chances of winning. I think that Quinn is the champ that has got me thinking "man how can she do that with literally no items" more times
She is just way too oppressive against almost any top laner especially if the champion you are playing has no gap closer of some kind. The entire laning phase with Quinn is you just being kited to oblivion and farming what she lets you farm

Quinn was my second favorite champion before the rework. She started gaining quite a bit of popularity as a jungler a bit before the rework was released, and was where her old ult felt the most organic (you'd pop it before ganking kind of like predator, and because the e wouldn't make you bounce back it was a bit better for chasing)
This is by far the best video on quinn we'll find on youtube, and it probably will be for a long time.

I fell in love with Swain support about 8 months ago and joined the subreddit only to see the former mid/top mains flaming the support mains and blaming them for his weak state. I've thought he's been a good sleeper pick in bot lane with his cc and burst potential. Before his mini-rework he had great mana sustain with his passive too so he'd get insane lane pressure just spamming abilities all the time.
Swain support isn’t great. Even before the mini rework it suffered against many enchanters and Engage Tanks, really only having a niche against support mages with long cast times like Zyra or Brand.
@@jeanegreene374 what are you on about? I main swain in the botlane and damn. I can always wreck the engage tanks but I struggle with the poke mages like brand, zyra, velkoz.
I loved the old swain, the laser bird was ridiculous, you could stack multiple lasers on one guy in urf instead of some stupid bird aoe
I remember a time when my friend was gonna pick Quinn top during ranked and someone on our team banned Quinn b/c they thought "Quinn top? you're gonna troll this game aren't you?!"

@@aniellovinciguerra4776 Nah she wasn't, Meddler just mentioned putting Quinn in a future rework ballot. The 5 champions in that ballot were Fiddle, Voli, Shyvana, Mundo and Nocturne.

It was the first adc that gave me motivation to learn adc lane after i master support around 2014, wonderfull times

@@disjointsaturn824 mid is a gamble for tanks afaik, if going against a mage with any peel or CC and a brain you're screwed, vs an assassin you can probably win if you have good burst or CC by tanking their burst and bursting back, or killing them when they try to escape.
Malphite is one tank top that can deal with Quinn since Malphite usually wants to stack armor and hp. Once Malphiye is level 6 he can she cannot safely answer him. But a smart Quinn will just roam away yo get kills elsewhere.
@@benign_oracle8875 That's the beauty of Malphite, follow her roams and you can score easy kills. Malphite teamfights and skirmishes alot better. The only setback is she is faster, no big deal when pings exist.
Tanks are strong against quinn
Quinn's rework was one of my stepping stones to quit LoL. And as you said Exil, Quinn used to be viable in 4 lanes before the rework too, they just destroyed her ult and made her lame.

i started playing league three seasons ago and i almost immidiately picked up quinn, she's still my main and video with her history (which i didn't have the occasion to see) and opinions on her as a champion is pretty priceless -- even when they aren't always too positive

This is actually a true statement, champions like Quinn straight up cause players to switch roles. I played Jungle and mid almost exclusively because of her and Gnar when she got changed back in the day. Top lane isn't even remotely the same role when nothing but toxic ranged laners are meta. Shit like Talon top became common in games too, just because no one wanted to bother playing traditional top laners, when quinn would automatically win if she had even a single brain cell.

Last time i was this early Quinn turned into master yi on ult.
The classic Quinn and Valor. One of my all time favorite champions to play.
The trick with the duo was to build a hybrid between ranged and melee elements, and a ton of armor penetration.. Like a hyper-mobile Tryndamere or Master Yi in a sense.
With Valor, you could insta-burst squishy targets like midlaners, assassins and ADC's. Here's how it worked: You could actually purchase melee specific items because of Valor (includes Tiamat items), and by doing that, you could benefit greatly while playing in that form (super-fast AoE autos).
Man I fell in love with this champ since release. I'm not great at the game silver throughout the years but for some reason Quinn was such a comfortable pick for me in the bot lane. I was really bummed out with the rework, it felt weird removing the blind and all. After watching this I might just pick her back up again on Top lane and see if I still got it.
i would love to see a video of you talking about ranged toplaners and what they do to the game with your your excellent way of showing both sides of the argument
Speaking as someone who plays Quinn top (hyper mobile squishy AD Ranged autoattacker) and Mordekaiser top (immobile beefy AP melee caster), I don't really understand how there's an "issue" with ranged top-laners.
On a specific level, I get that matchups can be oppressive. On a general level, I understand that it can be tough playing range into melee. I'm not denying that it can be *frustrating* to play into a Quinn or a Teemo.
At the same time, matchups and counterpicks are a core part of LoL. If your melee top keeps getting counterpicked, then you can last-pick them instead of first pick them, or take offensive summoners to secure an early lead, or swap lanes with an ally, or duo top, or any of a hundred other things.
If "ranged top" becomes so powerful that other playstyles can't be used effectively, maybe it's time for a rebalance. I don't think we're at that point yet.

@@Ninjat126 soraka, sona, senna, vayne, quinn, teemo, karma idk man everytime someone plays ranged top and it is too good then rito had to nerf them and the cycle continues as we use other ranged champs in the top lane. It is big problem because the only way to play in normal LoL (ie not pro) in top lane is to farm and be useless, unless you play a bully (which are mostly ranged champs with mobility).

great vid! quinn has always been interesting to me and ive experienced the problematic phases with (being on the recieving end when she was good and forgetting she existed when she wasn't). an idea for a video i think would be interesting would be the history of items, the problematic ones that defined the meta, the ones that were lost to time, and so on.
the quality of your vids are astounding, great job! Also, another fact that pops things up for quinn is that people finally realized that maximizing your W first is the best option. It gives you, in combat, more move and atk speed that is much needed for her low base stats. I like the way she is now, finally she's not all toxic!

I absolutely love quinn. she's my second favourite champ ever. so seeing this video was very fun and interesting, as I have only been playing league for about 2 years. (on a side note; I am a kindred main, so the little note about kindred was a nice touch for me ;P)
Hey bro, I have been playing league since release and I am really enjoying your videos. Very well researched and well made and I appreciate them. I would like to add that I got to platinum back in the day with Quinn ADC SOLELY because my enemies didn't know how to play against me and didn't know how much burst quinn had early game so I was really happy that you mentioned that in your video.

The best quality of life change was being able to trigger passive when it appeared while the shot was already flying

I wouldn't call Akali broken. Quinn was a solo q monster. Akali was problematic bcz she was pick or ban in pro play but terrible in solo q. Akali has never even hit a 48 winrate in her strongest states.

Old Quinn was a fun to play assassin that could easily backdoor with her ult (due to AS buff) or oneshot squishies with her E-Q-Ult-Combo...

I haven't played League in years, but Quinn was my favorite. I thought this video was great, and so much has changed since I played, I'm updating League and am going to try it again. I was never a competitive player, just casual bots and such, but your video reminded me...I really missed playing Quinn casually like that. This is why I changed my main from Riven to a frickin' *Teemo* , just to kill Quinn(+any other marksman champions).
I have yet to lose vs a teemo but I probably haven't played vs a good one. I think you're much better off playing smth like irelia riven Camille or ornn into her
I used to play a lot of quinn before the ADC rework. Back when she was one of the few ADCs that had somewhat of an engage and self peel with her vault, she could turn into a fast, melee Assassin that could shred an enemy ADC, and shred the frontline since she was one of the few ADCs that benefited from Black Cleaver.
Love the content. Reminds me of another champ. Swain. He was a drain tank, control for battle mage prior to the rework that was feast or famine. And worked in top and mid. Now he is a ap bruiser, burst, kind of drain, control, support apc mid lane top lane but doesn’t accel in any lane except support which was not his intended role.

As a dota player, once again, i dont see the problem with quinn.
But i understand that in league, which is extreemly tight for playstyles and balance, compaired to dota, a flexible champion that can be played in many roles, or a champion that fits into a very unusual but usefull role, is problematic.
LoL can't do much because of the items, they are so basic compare to dota and that limits the gameplay for champions like Quinn.
She is meant to be a marksman botlaner but is way too strong against top lane bruisers. So if they make her strong enough to be a viable botlaner she will be ridiculous top. She is also probably the most oppressive top laner in the game because she has ridiculous damage and a counter to gap closers and most top laners tend to have one gap closer with a decently long cooldown so she can just reactively use it. She basically just forces u under turret the whole game and you either have to wait for her to mess up(Quinn players often get very greedy) while constantly being poked or you have to wait for a gank to do anything against her.
Idk I play mostly smite and some dota/league and I never though quinn was weird or even crazy hard to play against. I just play a different ranged champ in top when I see them or full ap chogath and 1 shot them. People below diamond in league are pretty bad tho
Having Quinn on a team require your macro to be precise and your team to be cautious. She’s very static before level 11, doesn’t have much to offer in a team fight and was pathetically weak without 3 items in the past. Everyone hates Quinn and they have a reason. She could play against nearly every matchup pretty well but still have no contributions for the team without macro mechanics

I think the greatness of GP's VGU is really unsung (and can spark the conversation of "how much can a champion change by just replacing one ability?"), plus being a really old champion he could make for a great "Complete History of" subject, going through his old ability to kill his own minions, "crit runes gangplank", the Runeglaive AP GP phase (if you're making a separate video about Runeglaive don't talk about Ezreal only!!!) , and finally the VGU, both as the most interesting event in LoL so far (all the short stories, GP's in-game death, his newly reworked model being replaced by a new-new model to better reflect his lore update). and as the "destroyer of Worlds" (well, at least one of them. That year was a mess) with his problematic balance up to the recent removal of Kleptomancy.

Quinn will always have a place in my heart. She was the champion i started to practice to improve at the game and not only to just play. She helped me improving to last hit alot. And i also always played her as an Mid/Toplane Assassin tbh.

One of my first mains. I didn't know she was toxic at the time however being a newbie and not exactly knowing what I was doing I ended up on mobafire and after finding success with her oppressiveness found the first guide on Quinn that happened to be a Quinn top guide. I miss the old days of pressing R and running down any top lanner and executing them with skyfall. Quinn is definitely a weird champion to balance with a small buff she can one shot while flying at you faster than a rammus in q form but with a small nerf she is practically unplayable due to her inability to snowball. Tricky for sure. Good in-depth video!

He's in an interesting spot at the moment where he has a bigger, more consistent playerbase, a new role in support, but also a large part of his playerbase is unhappy. I've dropped him as he feels really unsatisfying to play, but I love his lore, thematic and style of play.

I just wanna say that I've been playing Quinn since her release- I loved her so much back then I even named my cat (who I still have and love to death) after her! I've never been the type to keep up with or indulge in the league community or professional play at all until recently, so it's really trippy going through her history with you and REMEMBERING going through all of those ups and downs. I vividly recall each update and each spike, but I had no idea the rest of the community of Quinn players was feeling the way I was! It's a trip, you really do share the love for these characters with everyone and you may not even know. It felt nice to hear the props for sticking to her even through all her flaws, cause after all those ups and downs I never faltered as a fan and I still think she's super dope. Props to all us die hard bird girls!
