Thanks so much for the kind words. Yes, Karin has been learning how to garden since she was a toddler! Now, she is learning the art of using the camera too and does a great job. Thanks for watching Marty
I don't remember if you have African nightcrawlers but those castings are amazing. I would compare them to the difference of dry powdery snow and Utah too wet slushy snow in the California mountains. I won't make fun of your fear of spiders because I know you have some pretty scary ones over there 🕷
Hi Richelle, I have mostly Tiger worms, but a few other species as well. Yes, the spiders are gnarly here hehe. Must be nice in the Californian mountains?
Yes Amanda, when they get over populated they try to leave the farm and stop breeding. That's when we move them into other farms. I cover that in my course on my site for migration, harvesting etc.
Just edited question after rewatching found answer, lol, next question, for bucket inground when compared to hungry bin and the Eva bin did you find a similar timeframe to break down the food into castings, and how did the Eva castings measure up to the bucket, thanks
It depends on how many worms, bedding too many factors to give an exact answer, but the buckets work well. Three months is generally what most farms take, HB longer
@@martysgarden thats suprising with all the teething problems it looked like you had with it, but to be honest I've only watched about 20 to 30 videos of yours so I probably have missed a few here and there on it, thanks for your time
@@Beartriple7 mostly because it's big is why I would say it's my choice,,to be honest someone needs to bring out better design. These farms are truly outdated in my opinion
Happy New Year Marty and Karin! Love your enthusiasm Marty - you've got some good looking worm castings there. Did you say that you use the castings for growing microgreens? As is or mixed with something else? I'm preempting myself here aren't I ? : )
Hi Angela, I use it right through my garden, but at the moment I am using the castings to grow micro's mostly because of the drought. I don't need to use as much water growing micro's. Plus I love them haha. Thanks for watching Marty
Hi Busta, I use a special technique to harvest the worms which can be found in the level 3 Worm Wrangler members area. czcams.com/channels/nPkv-JUX4Pqn_LYbykzAtw.htmljoin lots of other awesome content in there too. Heya Marty, Can I start an empty underground worm bin and just let my garden worms so the same job? I don't want to lose any of my composting worms Thanks Wendy W.A.
Garden worms work differently as they burrow into the sub surface...still great to have both if you can. You can attract earthworms by sprinkling coffee grounds in one area consistently
I hope Karen never asks you to change the intro. If you don't mind, I'd like to ask you a question regarding the fires. Someone today mentioned they were started by arsonists. Even wildfires are becoming political around here. Also, if you don't mind, how long has your drought been going? Here in Southern California it appears that things are looking good again so far as far as the rain is concerned. Thanks for another great video. Your daughter is doing a great job with the camera.
Hi Richelle,,I like that intro too, so I don't see it changing for a long time yet! We have had fire bugs lighting plenty of fires, which is really sad. The drought has been around for a few years now and looking good that it may change soon which I am praying for! Karin said thanks also for the kind words...I am sure you will love the next video this weekend,,Karin is in it!
This is a great little video. I value how you are teaching us but also getting your daughter involved and teaching her too. A+ for dad skills!

Thanks as always for watching Des
Welcome ..😊 nice songs..
Just made my own today!
Awesome, I am sure it will serve you well Jason
Great looking castings!!! You can use a plastic cup or storage tub to bait the worms out before you harvest the buckets.
I do and a migration method in most farms. I don't use a plastic cup though, just grab them with my hands when they are worm balling

Hey Marty, great video as always. Question. Is there such thing as too many worms in one farm?
Yes Amanda, when they get over populated they try to leave the farm and stop breeding. That's when we move them into other farms. I cover that in my course on my site for migration, harvesting etc.
