      The $🌳 has Tupperware style knock off "travel style" butter dishes that are great for an emergency Hurricane/fire evacuation bug out bag. They snap together decent enough but more importantly they wont break, ruin your butter and cut you in transit during an emergency. $1.25, come in red, white and blue and they're on shelves NOW in SC/GA area. I cant speak to everywhere but I think they're on the website too.

    Great video. I cook and the dehydrate my white rice (and pastas) that just requires placing some in a thrift store thermos with hot water to hydrate. Yes, there are those that ask the question Why? but having my cooked pastas dehydrated will allow for less fuel usage in a time that fuel may be scarce. My husband questions the beef roasts I buy for canning as he thinks we have enough but we never knows how many people may need to be fed besides our immediate family. Being prepared and knowing how to use your pantry foods is a great skill to have.

I live in Florida so building a stock of the pans to have for hurricane times. I just buy 2 or 3 every month or two. Of course my shelf stable food comes first. I am going to look into a canner for meats and other things to put in my preps.

    I've bought cans of beef in gravey and instant potato buds and veggies. But the stopped saleing at the dollar stores so I buy the Amish cams of beef,chicken,and Turkey. I just a little flour and water mixed together then add it too the juicy off the meat for gravey and bit of liquid bouquet for taste and color. I get about 10-12 meals from one can. And use it too make a pot pie or shepards pie and beef Manhattan's.

    The fried rice would be a good side dish. Add your eggs to it. Then for protein cut up some boneless chicken add a little soy sauce about a third of jar of orange marmalade and a quarter to a half cup of your favorite barbecue sauce and cook until chicken is done. My family calls it fake Chinese.

    @barburbec Před 2 lety +6

    I enjoyed this video, lots of good meals. You can coat eggs with mineral oil and make them shelf stable. I have done that and stored them in a cool place for a month with no refrigeration.

    • @michellesovereign4564
      @michellesovereign4564 Před 2 lety

      I store mine over a month without putting anything on them. Here in the UK even the shops don't keep them in the fridge. Eggs are not meant to be refrigerated at all. The shells are porous and absorb moisture and smells in fridge.

    • @barburbec
      @barburbec Před 2 lety +1

      @@michellesovereign4564 Are the eggs in the UK washed? I have heard they are washed here in the US which takes the natural coating off and that is why they are refrigerated or need a coating on them. It's interesting how differently things are done in different places.

    • @michellesovereign4564
      @michellesovereign4564 Před 2 lety

      @@barburbec I'm so glad you said that because I never knew there was a difference! After looking into it, All of Europe bans egg washing as they believe it helps transfer harmful bacteria to the inner egg.
      America bans unwashed eggs.
      In the UK, eggs are typically not refrigerated. … In the UK, Grade A hen eggs may not be washed because the process is thought to “aid the transfer of harmful bacteria like salmonella from the outside to the inside of the egg,” according to the Food Safety Authority of Ireland.
      Mystery solved. Many sources still state they are better off not refrigerated in either place but now I understand your mineral oil application.

    • @SouthernWifeEverydayLife
      @SouthernWifeEverydayLife  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes, that’s why our store bought eggs have to be refrigerated. Because they are washed. If you have farm fresh eggs they don’t have to be refrigerated, because they don’t wash them.

    You can’t beat Keystone canned meats. Another decent canned meat is corned beef. I used about half a can mixed in canned seasoned green beans (Glory brand) and canned potatoes (diced with peel on). All available at Kroger. The other part of the can was good mixed in canned sauerkraut. It’s good on top of mashed potatoes.

    For the Jasmine rice, it is a microwaveable bag. Squeeze the bag a few times to break it up, tear off one of the corners, and then pop it in the microwave for 90secs. That will make it easier to work with. Cuts down on your time in the pan and also you will not have to take the effort to break it apart. Less likely to get everywhere that way also. Hope that helps.

    How do you know when condiment package is out of date? Just don’t think they were created to have a long shelf life.

      Some have dates, some don’t. I have a working prepper pantry, so we use the food. Restock it as needed. But expiration dates don’t bother me. It’s just a “best by” date doesn’t mean it is bad.

    What would be good to substitute teriyaki sauce? I don't like teriyaki. Would sweet and sour be ok?
