I saw this movie on television on an afternoon in the 1970s. I was a child then and the story was a bit over my head. Now, thanks to the magic of CZcams I am finally watching it again. Thanks for uploading it.
Richard Widmard, from every source, was a kind, loving, caring gentleman. It's such a 180 from his acting you wonder where he drew his skills from.
I have read the same. Family man and the total opposite of some of the characters he portrayed. Truly a great actor.
I love watching anything Richard Widmark does
A fine actor and reputedly a proper gentleman.
I love watching anything Linda Darnell is in.
Richard Widmark had a wide range. Could play anything.
Now that's a great movie 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿. It had it all, great casting, twist and turns, love story betrayal, all the pieces came together with major atonement. Richard Widmark, nothing else needs to be said.
Good performance of Veronica and great Widmark acting
Widmark: "Are you through? Then hate me outside, I'm tired." Best line of the movie!!
Good cast. Good movie. Agree with previous comments re Veronica Lake. Few lines but great performance. Thank you
Ooh goodie! A Mr. Widmark movie I've never seen.
Thanks uploader.
No one seems to remember this Veronica Lake movie but it was one of her best performances
I can't believe I've never seen this! What a fantastic cast. 🌹
Good movie and cast. Interesting movie and seeing Richard Widmark in such a different role. Thanks😊
Anybody who thinks that Veronica Lake cannot act has never seen Sullivan’s Travels or her movies with Alan Ladd..I would say This role is amazing because it’s 360 from Anything she had ever done or called on to do..No sexpot here at all..Fredric March was not everybody’s favorite human so it would NOT be below him to try and sabotage somebody he did not like..Ms Lake did drink her way out of Hollywood and was not liked by many people but she could act..Period
I don't understand why she didn't play Gladys alward in inn of the 6th happiness they were nearly the same height.ingrid Bergman was a foot taller.
@@robertcooke1774Bergman was excellent in that film though.
❤ loved her she could act
Linda Darnell stole my heart in the 60's when I first saw her on screen. She unfortunately died tragically in a fire at the age of 41. After reading several stories around that fire I can't help but think there is a true story that has never been told.
I too was devastated by the story around her death. She was beautiful and "Forever Amber" is what made me fall in love with her as an actress
@@tumarah-hv6gfforever amber was a classic
The true story is that either she or her secretary fell asleep on the living room couch while smoking. She was found near the couch.
@@kevino4846 Well it's one of the stories anyways, we will never know the actual story.
One of the newspaper stories I read a few years back said she made it outside, according to a witness. When she did not see the secretaries daughter she panicked. She went back inside to find her but never made it back out. Turned out the girls had already made it out a back window or something. According to that article anyway.
It did go on to say that it was believed to have been caused by smoking. The secretaries daughter said that Linda did not let her mother smoke inside, but would catch her doing so and threatened to kick them out. Apparently Linda had let them move in after letting her go, she no longer needed a secretary. Because the secretary didn't have any other work Linda felt bad for her because she had a young daughter.
Anyway... I thought she was a great actress, and I thought this story was tragic.
Great 'silent' acting by the under-rated Veronica Lake. Her expressions in the restaurant scene show she's immediately caught on to the relationship between Slattery and his former love Aggie.
I like Veronica's hairstyle in this too.
It was nice to see her break from her signature style, hanging over one eye...
Almost can't go wrong with these movies; always some good lines, good lighting. And fantastic stars! THANKS!
What a movie so intense at the end
Very good flick. I don't think I ever saw a bad movie that Widmark was in. The cure all, a short right hand to the jaw. 🥴 Tku for post.
This was great just like Richard Widmark always was!! Thank you for posting this wonderful film!
Emotionally intense and completely absorbing film. Superb cast. Thanks!
Good movie-THANKS
The one and only..John Russell.
DeToth wrote an interesting and cryptic autobiography titled 'Fragments', and I believe he details some of his time with Veronica Lake, although he never names names in the book for the most part. He got his start in the Hungarian film industry, went to England to work for Korda, then went to Hollywood but ended up working as a cowboy before getting his chance in Tinsletown.
VERONICA LAKE WOW
Richard Witmark is very good and he drives the film forward. The weather and flying scenes are exciting. The other actors are fine but have little to do. The melodrama itself is conventional. Andre de Toth's direction brings it home.
Grumman Mallard in its heyday! Sweet seaplane.
Some of those four-engined Privateer navy patrol planes had fairly long postwar lives as fire-retardant bombers, fighting forest fires. They were the relatively-few successors to the 18,000-odd "Liberator" WW2 bombers that were quickly scrapped after the war ended.
Pretty sure that`s a B-24 Liberator with a modified tail at 54:26.@@None-zc5vg
I got that sinking feeling when I knew the film was going into flashback. Luckily it was done well and went full circle with some great episodes. They were over tidy closing their plot lines but I didn’t feel cheated.
I watched this for Linda Darnell. I thought she was superb though she was not in it enough.
I Spy John Russell~~~ So Handsome!!!
Bom muito bom. Grsra por postar.
I love Veronica Lake RIP
Beautiful lady.
John Russell could of been another Gable
love that Grumand Goose
Fantastic film....
Both of the female stars in this movie had bad ends. Linda Darnell died due to a fire in her living room (evidently started by a cigarette) while watching one of her old films with two women friends. She was 41. Veronica Lake died aged 50 of liver and kidney damage from a lifetime of drinking.
Such sad endings of their lives.
I thought Darnell's death was sketchy.
Lake's cause of death also due to toxic hairdye
What's a Navy plane doing in a private residence anyway??
I was so disappointed by the lack of copious cigarette smoking common with other films of this era
You see them smoking in all movies, because they program people subconscious. Later, they also used drugs and alcohol,as also porn.On many countries they only use gay people on all tv chanels and all programs. They are not just poison youth, but all of us in many ways and not only through tv,intetnet and cinema. Its food, chemtrails and many other weapons they use. They start and supply wars with money and weapons too.its the same people.who run all the world. The people who just prepared the throne, for the Devil to rule humanity, through Anτιchrιςt.
😂😂😂
Another yummy gem!
Once again, Richard Widmark as the trouble maker.
Released by Fox in 1949, technically making this a disney film.
Film dates: Nov-Dec. 13th, 1948 Miami & LA. 1:00:02 Date of award scene per admitting form June 17th, 1948. Interesting film, but hard to follow; the script is all over the place.
If you want to watch this in comedy mode turn on the CC, the AI translation is pretty funny.
Gary Merrill I'll never get it. Things just STOP whenever that guy is on screen. Bette Bette Bette .,. WHAT WERE YOU THINKING? Could that guy lick his eyebrows or something?
😂😂😂
@stutzbearcat5624 You're talking out of your hat. He was magnificent in 'The Human Jungle' and with no stops.
Yeah he was always good.
I liked him in "The Incident" (1967)
I could identify with the character he played.
Just a cat minding his own business and then gets "cruised" by a homosexual, and trying to just tell the dude without being a jerk about it "I'm not like that, so please just leave me alone"
Veronica looks very plain.
Veronica was certainly blessed with looks to die for. With looks like that acting ability don’t really come into it as Lake provided great optics.
Richard never appealed to me no matter some claim he was a great actor… like Elvis it is said was not a great actor but I’d sooner watch Presley all day…
Presley was just eye candy for female moviegoers. To say Richard Widmark might be a great actor is like saying water might be wet.
Veronica had so little expression in her face- kinda deadpan 'acting', but Widmark was always good. Darnell put a lot more into actual acting than Lake, whose mousy appearance here was a disappointment to me. Frederick March said she was a "Brainless little Blonde sexpot, void of any acting ability". I agree. She drank herself out of Hollywood not long after this movie.
Fredric.
Seems like March didn't get his desire satisfied.
To the contrary, her acting ability fooled you into focusing on her "mousy" appearance, which is a product of the makeup artist. Her character was not supposed to be more attractive than Darnell's.
@@kevino4846 Again- WHAT acting ability-LOL!
@@rescuepetsrule6842 Over your head. But, you're entitled to your opinion, as am I.
