Dan Duryea really was fantastic in this kind of roles: the oily cheater, that can turn into an instant in a friendly guy, buying everyone a cup of coffee, but who is constantly sceming and sacrifizing without remorse people around him. The perfect parasite. His voice too is a perfect instrument for these impersonations, and he clearly was enjoying the vilain-roles he was portraying. I haven't checked wether he ever got an Oscar or something like that, but he definetely deserved one. For once he isn't opposed to an equally greedy woman, but once again, he's outsmarting himself :)
After I see him in a flick, I think in his voice for the rest of the day. Yeah. Really. Just... like... that...
I love Dan Duryea, probably one of the most underrated stars ever he plays the villian so perfectly. One of my favorites! Funny thing was he was completely opposite of the image he portrayed in movies. He was a loving family man, went to PTA meetings, served the community, and enjoyed spending his days in his garden.
what does underrated mean?
You have to see woman in the window and scarlet street.
@@mickirving6779I luv them both
You are so right about Dan
Look up UNDERRATED then you won't have to ask ****** questions.
The magnificent Dan Duryea, who played so well the snarling villain and cold hearted criminal. He dominated most of the pictures in which he was featured. A great actor who is sadly missed.
Yes he was a wonderful actor.
Yes and even then you had to love him.
Agree, loved Dan Duryea in any of his roles. He was one of the greats in my opinion.
If Dan's in a film, that's my reason for watching it. His sneering weasel persona was awesome.
That is why I don't like him in movies that he dominates the women in movies. A slithering character but very good at that. To each his own.
Nearing my eighth decade, I'm enjoying the film noir, dramas, and slightly above "B" westerns that i ewww-ed over as a small boy in the early 1950s. I particularly enjoy the ones with the character actors I liked back then. Dan Duryea was one of them. He never played a sympathetic role that I can remember. The professional "bad guys" made the heroes look brave and kissable. Thks guys!
Plot is convoluted. Dorothy Lamour is amazingly beautiful. Dan Duryea is the best villain ever. Every scene he lights up.
I can’t stop watching the film noir ❤
The old movies are so much better than what is out there now.
Now just nonsense
I agree. Old movies are the best
Agreed......it is a bit sad though
Absolutely
SJW Lezbo "woke" agenda ruined everything.
Feminist propaganda denigrates actual femininity as well as Men!
Nothing, nothing!, is more soothing and enjoyable than watching a Noir in bed, at night, tucked and comfy under the blankets - and particularly during a rainy night!
... Quite possibly, Noir is the most intimate of genres - particularly with their often-expressed angst of Human frailties and flaws in all of us.
TRIVIA: Did you know that the classic noir ended in the late 50s, NOT because of changing tastes, but because on TV, with the relatively primitive technology back then, their replays blurred white and dark contrasts, and noir craftsmen relied on subtle white and dark light contrasts to express moods - moods that came out fine in theatres, but not on TV. .. So, TV companies demanded the end of such practice, and to film only with sterile stark contrasts.
Dan Duryea and Sterling Hayden .. both excellent actors in this thriller
Love these film noir, such drama you just don't find done the same way nowadays🙄. Dan Duryea was superb as a psychopathic criminal, no holding back he was a true narcissist, out to get anyone who stood in his way, no thoughts of anyone but himself. Movie making has come an extremely long way in terms of creating drama, fear, etc. But there is nothing to compare to the earlier filmography. Truly classics in their own right and the pre-code Hollywood films are a film lovers delight! Thanks for posting this.👏👏👍
well stated
“A man tells his two-bit therapist, Dr. Redman (Harold Vermilyea), about a recurring dream in which he murders his rich wife. Later, Redman's secretary, Merl Kramer (Dorothy Lamour), relates the odd dream to neighbor Karl Benson (Dan Duryea), a slimy private investigator. Then the wealthy woman is robbed and murdered, and, since her husband has an airtight alibi, suspicion falls on the shocked Merl, who realizes she's being set up by either Benson, Redman or both men together.”

Duryea must've aced geometry. He always knew all the "angles."
A great movie with great characters. The humor and suspense is brilliant
Great great movie Dan Duryea wonderful actor thank you
If you want to see a good Dan Duryea movie check out Ride Clear of Diablo.
Dan plays a good/bad guy and the chemistry with him and Audie Murphy really reflects throughout this movie. Thank you Chris T for uploading Manhandled - much appreciated.
A really great thriller, full of twists and turns, spattered here and there with
gags to lighten the tension. And great acting all round! Pure entertainment!
Thank you for posting it.
The master sociopath who scared you without a knife or a pistol. Just his weasel bastard demeanor would frighten you into wondering what his next move was going to be. Thank you for the wonderful memories of watching the ultimate villain and like Raymond Burr or Richard widmark their personalities dominated the screen forever.
Hi from the UK Chris...we Brits love the old American movies...they had depth, great one liners, style & class nothing today can match them...this one was great THANK YOU!🇦🇽😁
A very good movie. I was impressed with Dorothy Lamour's acting in the dramatic scene with Dan Duryea at the end of the movie. She could've done a lot more than the roles given to her. And of course Dan Duryea is wonderfully menacing. Also, I like the touch of humor in the movie. I don't understand why other viewers don't like it. For me, it relieves the dramatic tension. And I know these movies really don't have the drama that today's audience can experience, but I grew up on these movies so I really do know how to get into them and appreciate them. That's just me.

Others seem to think this movie is very good.
Dorothy Lamour could scream good.
I agree with you 100%.
I agree also with you 150%
Love Dan. Can't get enough of him. He plays the charming snake like no other. This is the 4th movie I seen him do this character. I did see one where he was a decent guy. It didn't work for me. Yet it was so nice to know that in real life he was a down to earth wonderful loyal family man and not a phony, snobby Hollywood big shot. A hell of a lot of big celebrities could learn so much from a first class act like he was. And he steals every movie without purposely upstaging the big shots he co-stars with. What more could one ask for.
I totally agree with you 100%.
And another thing that is not known about him, is that he was a Master Concert Pianist.
And I saw him actually play the
Piano as good as Liberace, in another movie, but at the moment I can't remember what the name of the movie was, but it was another Noir movie, where he teamed up with a blonde woman that sang beautifully, and she went upstairs to open a safe, while he was down stairs playing at the Piano, but if the owner of the club showed up, he was going to switch to playing
"Moonlight Sonata", but she ended up getting caught by the owner of the club.
I think he was supposed to be an alcoholic and trying to reform. Her husband was arrested for murdering someone, but he didn't do the murder, Dan Duryea did it, and her husband got blamed.
I've been looking for that movie again but I don't remember the name. It was a treat movie, and Dean Duryea did any excellent job in it.
I Love him in "The Little Foxes" he killed me, he was so funny, and I've liked him ever since.
I agree with every word that u stated He was exceptional
I love him too and am currently binge watching all of his moves.
I didn't realize what a great actor Dan Duryea was until I saw this movie. He nails the role. This is a surprisingly good noir that I had not seen before. Thanks for posting.
Dan Duryea was a big star back in 40s and 50s and always a menacing heel. He could deliver lines better than most even with a touch of comedy.
Well realize it pal. He nailed it like a grandee slammy in bottom of the 9thy
In Black Angel...Duryea shines as well
I love Dan Duryea
He was great in The Little Foxes. I recall he was slapped and I think his lip bled and he belt licking so it wouldn’t be noticeable.
Any film noir with Dan Duryea is a damn good flick.
Check out No Time for Tears !
Man, you can say that again.
What a precious little gem I loved it ! I never saw an entire cast acting so fine.Thank you for posting this.
Right, no one is competing against each other or trying to steal the scene. Classy, unlike so many loudmouths today called celebrities yet they actually have no audience with plenty.
This is what film noir is all about: Nobody's perfect, the good guy/bad guy concept is completely relative; that's what I like about the genre. And just enough comic relief was provided, especially the running gag with the defective brakes culminating in that hilarious final moment in the police car.
Thanks for this great film , I've never seen this one. Dan Duryea is at his best, as always! I love the guy, and anything he's ever acted in. A real pro! Its also good to know that he was, a really nice guy!
I saw a photograph he donated to the post office up at Lake Arrowhead, California with his inscription, "From a proud American citizen to the staff at one of our government's departments." He must have been a Democrat.
Best line: "What do people do, just stand around WAITING for a murder?" Enjoyable movie--thanks Chris T.
These films are GREAT!!! Much better than today's films filled with putrid violence.
I’ve been studying up in film noir during the quarantine. Learning and enjoying a whole new world. Love Dan Duryea- none like him... and the great Sterling Hayden gifted sailor, actor and author of one of my fav books, The Wanderer. Thanks for posting the movies and to all y’all out there- thanks for the interesting info.
Yes Sterling wrote some good books, but he isn't remembered for that, sadly. Great in"Asphalt Jungle" and "Crime Spree" and "The Killing".
The very best film, see The Man with a Golden Arm, Frank Sinatra. It's really good!!!!
@@catladyoftroyn.y.8713 Which one of these two guys were in it? Dan Duryea or Sterling Hayden?
@@chirelle.alanalooney8609 Neither of them were in The Man with a Golden Arm.
What a terrific little surprise this one is. Full of tongue-in-cheek humor I didn't think they had in 'the pictures' back then - especially the film noir.
Many have humor, 1/3 or so.
Thank you for loading these wonderful film noir pieces...pure classics !
Thanks for sharing this fantastic film! Dan Duryea never gave a bad performance.
He was in a few turkeys.
Dan had a good face and voice for acting and this made him a very interesting character on screen...his niche was supporting actor.
.but he was a noticeable actor and a memorable one
I have always Loved Dan Duryea ever since I saw him play has role in "The Little Foxes". He was downright hilarious and great in that, and I was interested in him and followed him ever since.
Nobody else plays a role the way he does, with such true to life perfection.
Such a super surprise!! Great on all levels, and somehow the occasional humor worked so well..thanks for this!!
Alan Napier , who played Alfred the butler on Batman for 3 seasons was a tall drink of water at 6'6"; wonder why he didn't get more leading man roles, he has a suave sophistication on screen. Would like to see more of his films.
Not the sort to win the girl except in The Uninvited.
Seriously, they don't make them like this anymore.....And that is so sad. GREAT MOVIE!!!
I love old movies.Thats when acting was acting.thx
First of all , thanks for this. Secondly, they really knew how to write them in those days. These
Films , have more twists then chubby checker.
I love this one [too], keep 'em coming for all of us out here who appreciate classic film making and priceless performances. Thanks for sharing with us.
There is nothing better than old time classic movies to watch cos they don't have all of the negative stuff the movie's of this day and age have.
Better for the children to watch.
Se the actores of the classic erra Katherine Heberan Spenser Tracy, carry Grant, Mary Astor, Betty Davis, etc,
Those were great actors from the classic movie and theater erra Bogart Cagney and more. Real honest acting
Children aren’t interested in these types of movies, nor should they be.
And, Dan was one of the few people who could wear a bow tie and make it work.
So was Bogart.
I Loved this movie ! I have been a fan of Dan Duryea ever since I saw him in "The Little Foxes." He was such a character in that, that he totally killed me laughing at his mannerisms and everything else that he did and said. I thought that he was a riot, and I was hooked on him ever since.
By the way, how old was he when he unfortunately passed away? That must have been an awful shock to his family, because I heard that he passed away quite young. What a loss to everyone including all of his fans. He truly gave us all a lot to remember him by.
Rest In Blessed Slumber And Peace, You Have Earned That Luxury My Friend, And God Bless You !!!
Very entertaining, Dan Duryea, Sterling Hayden, Dorothy Lamour are all fabulous, as is the cast cinematography and direction. Lacks the depth of the A plus noirs but can't be beat for craft pacing and tension. That car run-over scene is brutal! Thanks again!
It totally kills me, how someone can "NIT PICK" about an "A Noir picture", and A "B Noir picture." I find them all wonderful and enjoyable for what the picture
is about.
AND ANYWAY, ANY ONE OF THEM ARE A DAMN SIGHT BETTER, THAN ANY OF THE TRASH AND FILTH, THEY PUT OUT FOR WHAT THE STUDIOS CALL ENTERTAINMENT NOWADAYS, AND EVEN TODAY !!!!!!!!
@@chirelle.alanalooney8609 It's his opinion which, just like yours, everyone is entitled to.
Good movie. Dan Duryea plays a great part and plays it perfect. Movie keeps your attention all through to the end.
Plays it "PERFECTLY", is the correct word.
Dan Duryea is wonderful in all his films. Thank you for sharing this movie
I have a notion to second that emotion ! Can't go wrong with Dan Duryea ! Played many slimy characters but offscreen he was a quiet family man, devoted husband and loving dad to his two sons !
brilliant film, i like the way they share the tablets like they are sweets
Loved it, particularly the final irony that Carl killed the murderer, the only one who could have proven that Carl was innocent of the rich lady's murder. Great movie! Thank you.
That part was good. Carl was a slimy creep, and deserved the blame.
thanks for posting these wonderful movies
"You're not talkin' to a cluck, Charlie. You're talkin' to a guy who knows all the angles."
Dan Duryea was the greatest, he with the slick wild hair. He was the best! Anytime he appeared in a movie, you knew it would be worth watching because of him ... and in this flick, lies the proof. Thanks for a great quality upload Chris T.
He put family first and was active in his son's scouting troop, too. A good man who balanced family and career.
Yup, Duryea was one of the best.
He even lived uphill from the studio and walked home for lunch. And his kids weren't allowed to see any of his movies.
@@Carly8Corday
How come his kids were not allowed to see any of his movies?
This was a great movie. Superb cast, clever story, interesting and lighthearted. Well worth watching.
@@jjoohhnnx I never even noticed the music except on the radio in Dorothy Lamour's apartment.
Brilliant….. also with a little bit of comedy thrown in! 👏👏👏
Dan Duryea at his finest
Wow ! Had never seen this crime drama till now. Not bad ! Of course, I'm willing to watch anything with two of my fave actors: Dan Duryea and Sterling Hayden ! So many familiar faces ! Thanks so much for uploading the whole movie ! CHEERS !! :-)
It's great to view these classics movies...The way things are happing today...
I live to watch Dan Duryea movies. Thank you for helping me live another day. Thanks for sharing.
Enjoyed watching the movie.
Brilliant movie, love Dan Duryea. Thanks ❤
I love it that this movie has three male actors whose last names end, being pronounced with a YAY.
Vermilyea, Duryea, and Napier.
I notice things about names, too.
How’s a bout real stinkeroo-yea…
Another good film thanks Chris. I am a big fan of Dan Duryea very good actor.

I am so glad for d.d. acting. It's so nice to just see a film with him playing all those badguy roles. It's true he was a perfect family man, nothing like his roles. I first saw him with Audie Murphy in Stay Away From Diablo.. it's one of my favorit films.
Thanks for posting this great Noir film.
Forgot it
Dan always looks like he has dirty deeds on his mind even when he's smiling.
Who doesn't like Sterling Hayden and Dan Duryea. As a added bonus we get to see Alan Napier who played Alfred on Batman.
Sterling Hayden! Dan Duryea! Alan Napier! Terrific cast.
And that's about it. The movie itself was lousy, although Dorothy Lamour looks strikingly beautiful still in her mid thirties.
Alan. Phantom Lafy ?
And my personal favorite, Richard Widmark, ever since watching the movie The Last Wagon. I’ve watched that movie 5 or 6 times. Every once in a while, I have to have my The Last Wagon fix. On the subject of movies, Roman Holiday starring Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck is the best and saddest movie that I’ve ever seen. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
@@winonamassingill7895 I just downloaded The Last Wagon will watch it later, thanks for the recommendation
In real life, Dan was the exact opposite of the menacing roles he played. He was a good husband and father. RIP Dan. 😇
He graduated from Cornell, English major.
His son was his clone
Love you Dan Duryea you are a wonderful actor thank you so much
Love these "sudden" solutions to B movie crimes!
This was better then I expected. Lots of good old actors & Dorothy, of course.(ls)
Dan Duryea was such a good bad guy! Thanks for a neet flick.
another great old black and white. good storyline too and a bit of humour added. thoroughly enjoyable
The wonderful Dan Duryea, who dominates the screen with his menacing presence. Calleous, cynical and heartless. The perfect villain! A superb actor!
I don't know, now, he's rated pretty highly rated, famous, still talked about, loved and watched. Don't hurt his family's feelings suggesting you see him as some kind of underdog in the biz, he was NOT.
(I have to give this spiel all the time for all the highly rated famous actors CZcamsrs decry as "underrated" when they are not. Even Bette Davis got the sobs from a viewer as "so underrated!!")
@@Carly8Corday a very "religious" man in real life, I have read.
@@Carly8Corday You are right. It annoys me when an actor is described as underrated.Who says these things? Lately I have read Robert Mitchum is underrated eh?Where will it end,Meryl Streep?Spencer Tracy?Bette Davis?
-I think tthenpeople whom say say and mom def not one them.. are saying because of al, th treatment the newer and crappier stars of today get so it's a word game problem they need to simply say this star the one the call eberrated is great too bad they didn't make the kind of money èddie Murphy made just to pick an obvious overrated actor in my opinion funny yeah great all aroundnactor nope but treated better and that IS for sure..anyway my take on it I could be way off
He's rated just fine by lovers of film noir.
Great all around, especially the black and white photography.
I love this movie genre. The actors did a wonderful job. I watch these old films over and over.❤❤❤
Duryea is such a Master Class!. When he finds she tells him about the $100 000 in jewles... is pure 🍬🍯🍩🍪🎂
Enjoyable film. Good plotline. Thank you for uploading.
Wow what a great movie! Thanks for sharing!
Didn’t see that ending coming! 👏👏👏👏 ....X2!!! Bravo!! WAIT! 3 times! Even at the very end! Thrilling adventure!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great film noir with lots of intricate twits in the plot to keep you glued till the end. Dan Duryea brilliant actor and excellent here in portraying the bad guy.
The doctor and secretary don’t seem to understand patient confidentiality😊 good movie.
The Amazing Duryea! If you haven't read his bio, he was a good family man and all-around nice guy. His parents frowned on acting, so he went into Insurance for 6 years, had a Heart attack in his 20s and got away from the stress to go into acting. Lucky for us. :) The moral of the story is: women who wear too much jewelry get more attention than they bargained for.
So glad to see this again, been a few years, but I only remember parts of it.
Greetings from Slovakia
Perhaps one could might say this is a great perfection of a Gem, why not today's Hollywood take lessons from this story

Great movie so many twists and turns
Just a super flick
I remember him in Scarlet Street! Great movie!
It's quite a film.. every character and the role they played were outstanding.. you've got too much to take from it all..👏👏
This is a very good movie. Thanks for uploading it. Thumbs up.
I saw a lil bit of this on TCM years ago and always wanted to see it in its entirety. I wish Dorothy had more to do!
Love the old mysteries
The jewelry they wore was so gorgeous
A nice well-written yarn, neatly resolved in the last 20 mins. Great performances by all, thanks for uploading, Chris T
Lots of twists and turns, hard to follow in parts, then it all comes together. Clever plot.
Sterling Hayden , always ready for a laugh , a beer and a sing song round the piano , lovely lad.

That goes to show how different people are. The plot outline helps me know if I want to watch or continue watching.
Ms. Maidie Norman, who played the maid, was in 'Whatever happened to Baby Jane?' with Bette Davis. Sterling Hayden was in 'The Star' with Ms.Davis
Yes you are correct. ✅ I thought she looked familiar.
What a wonderful movie! But Dan Duryea steals the show: he plays the total heel. Sterling Hayden has no oportunity to play as he can do, he was a wonderful actor. Thank for this flick, Chris T!!!!
He did get to pop the Bennies, though.
And be handsome.
Great movie Dorothy, Sterling and Dan where young ,early in their careers . The police chief was a riot. Muc enjoyed 😉.
I have never seen any movie in which Sterling HAYDEN was not sterling. His name indeed does make sense, he is always a delight. 42:30, just magnificent. The movie is quite good, too, not stellar, but keeps my interest up and not boring at all. Thanx!
Great movie! Thanks for sharing.
Thumbs up on this one. Worth the popcorn, even two bags. The brake gag got old, but Duryea was the man! Thanks for providing it, especially commercial free so the flow of the movie wasn't interrupted. Helps to make the viewing experience a two thumbs up if CZcams would allow it.
Mrs. Bennett's comeback lines to the Psychologist about her husband, are truly hilarious.🤣
