      Add to that the fact that he'd been sure he was going to be executed since midnight, barring a phone call at the literal last minute. Finally, it's about 15 after 7, you're strapped in the chair, blind, and wet from the sponge under the headgear affixed to your head. You're just waiting for the bolt to take your life.
      Still, it's way better than he deseved.
      Death in general was too good. He should have been locked away in a dark cell and never allowed to speak to anyone other than the prison staff for the rest of his life, being only let out for showers and always under armed guard. That would have been real hell for him.

    For all those who admire or feel sorry for “Ted,” do you know the name of one of his victims? Probably not. The victims and their respective beloved family and friends of this murderer are long forgotten. Unfortunately, Bundy, or for many of you who refer to him as “Ted” will remain very well known for years and years to come. One thing about this executed cruel murderer is he will not victimize again--not a defenseless college girl on the street, not a “cell mate,” not a correctional officer. God, I wish more people would empathize with and remember the victims and their families and worry not about about evil people.

      I understand what you are saying; Bundy was an especially cruel, sadistic and diabolically clever serial killer. He deserved sympathy from nobody. But in my opinion neither he nor any other convicted person should be executed. Society lowers itself (near) to the level of criminals like Bundy when it kills in the name of vengeance (and let's not kid ourselves; that's what it is -- it's not a deterrent). Furthermore, not all murder convictions are anywhere near as clear-cut as was Bundy's. The justice system is a fallible instrument set up and managed by fallible human beings who make mistakes. There is the very real possibility of innocent people being executed. This is simply too much of a risk to run, however much all of us do not shed a tear for the likes of Ted Bundy.

    This is probably the most accurate account of Ted Bundy's execution process; however, Bundy's "composure" described by former FL Legislator Mackey was not stoicism but contentment that he was accompanied by others and everyone's attention was on him. Male narcissists and female borderlines/histrionics love the attention they receive, doesn't matter if people love 'em like disciples or hate their guts. Attention from other people entails a sense of control. When Bundy was in his solitary holding cell and getting shaved/prepped for the electric chair, the reality of the situation was apparent. This explains the rapid transition of emotions.

      @lonelyheroine Před 8 lety +6

      You are spot on. Everything you said about this barbaric poisoning is exactly correct. The first drug, Sodium Pentothol is a sedative that puts the inmate to sleep. The second is Pancuronium Bromide which causes the lungs to collapse and renders him unable to show the horrible pain that causes is the worst. It's being locked into your body, with no way of reacting. Then the Potassium Chloride stops the heart, If they omitted the paralysing chemical and just used the PC, then it would have been painless. It's the medication used to put sick animals down and is a humane death. I have watched three of my cats die as this is being carried out and they actually do just fall asleep. It still hurt like hell to see them drift into oblivion and slowly get colder and colder, but give that their quality of life had taken a nosedive, it was the right thing to do.
      I have been a very vocal opponent of the death penalty for years now. America is the only civilised country to hold onto this horror show and I don't see this ending anytime soon. California briefly outlawed capital punishment in 1972, but due to an aggressive campaign by right-wing idiots, it was re-instated in 1976. My country hasn't used this for well over a hundred years now and involved public hangings. This gruesome spectacle was deemed barbaric and cruel and it didn't make it into the twentieth century. I am so glad that people like you and me share the knowledge of the ugly side of strapping inmates down and injecting terrible poison into their veins. Hopefully, they will wake up and face the truth, instead of whining that this atrocity appears to be too easy.

    What I find appaling was Florida's ravenous appetite for executions back at that time period. Everything from their law for murder, the glamorization of the electric chair by several state attorneys general, the defiance of Federal Court rulings, the tasteless disc jockey takes around the state at electrocutions and death penalty convictions, and on and on. It is no surprise that Florida leads the nation in the number of innocent persons released from death row since capital punishment's reinstatement in 1976. There was a bestial mentality there. Heck, even Bundy's Lake City prosecutor admitted to shamefully enjoyind the electrocution.

    The death penalty makes us a more civilized society , no doubt about it. The way it is administered at present is what is uncivilised. Us British had the best process, the third Sunday after sentencing and after clemency has been denied they were visited in their cell by a master executioner named Albert Pierrepoint who would hang them by the neck until dead and which was remarkably quick. The way Pierrepoint went about his work was the most authorative , proficient yet humane way to do it. The offender was made to psychologically recognise the gravity of their crime but the sentence was carried out quickly, the quickest of any form of execution , and without fuss and at less cost to the public. With today's modern methods of DNA evidence and other ways to guarentee guilt it should be brought back in special circumstance like this within the UK. We can not tolerate these individuals and doing so without quickly despatching of them only poisons our society . Do things like what Bundy did and there should only be one outcome for you, the rope and done with schnell !!!
