1968 Pontiac LeMans Build hits a BIG SNAG! Off to Vickers Transmissions!

  • Let's keep on moving forward with our 1968 Pontiac LeMans build, time is a wastin! In the last episode we managed to get the Pontiac 350 pulled out of the body, along with the TH350 transmission. Before we even consider putting ANY power through it we definitely want to get it taken off the motor and up to Vickers Performance Transmissions!
When I was originally sold this car a number of years ago I was told it was a pretty original car. Also that it had Pontiac 400. And a TH400 transmission. Well it turned out the 400 Pontiac actually was a grimy gross 350 Pontiac, and the transmission turned out to be... well you'll have to wait and see.
The over all goal with this car and this project is to get it ready for the 2024 Pontiac Nationals in July, and bonus points if we can get it ready for Power Tour in June. Mr Bob McVay of The Old Man's Garage / Street Racing Channel fame needs a ride to run and we're going to do our best to get it ready!

Been growing the collection over the last decade plus, I'm horrible about selling cars so once I get one they tend to just stay in the herd :) Happy some folks enjoy sharing my toys!

Thank you! It really was shocking to me just how many people love that crazy little thing, especially given when I bought it almost no one I knew had any idea what the heck it was. It grew on all of us pretty quickly and is without a doubt one of my most fun machines.

There's a better than average chance this thing comes back to life wearing a white body! Gotta lot to do before we talk about paint though but we're moving in the right direction!

You can make a Poncho 350 that will get that car a sub-12 sec run. Plenty of youtubers with these adventures in their 350's, normally aspirated. Or you can puss-out and use add-on power easily enough.

You mean Kerry, the one was saved from his parents driveway? It's still here in town he still has fun with it. He's mostly been a motorcycle nut lately though. He is Mechanical Advantage Garage on here if you are interested in his Shenanigans.

At this point... not sure yet. Haven't even looked at block or head numbers at this point. HOPEFULLY tearing it down tonight and we'll see just what we've got to work with.

I suspected that your motor and transmission where not original, because when you pulled that motor it looks like a mid 70's Pontiac 350 from the water pump cause 68 had a 8 bolt water pump and the front accessories and brackets where not 1968 they are mid 70's and also the exhaust manifolds don't have 6 bolt holes only 4 so those heads don't have 6 bolt holes and you have to drill and tap those for headers or use different heads

Damn man... you're making the algorythim your b****. 606 as this dropped. Nice. Ya know... you could put a 6-71 on it with some 6X-8 heads and it would still be consistent with a 350, and run on pump gas or E85 when you want all the powers. Ya know that prybar you tried to wedge on the ground? Jam it in a hole in the flexplate and run it up against the block where the starter goes.. thats how I did them until I got the right tool. I have faith in ya.
