Instead of a Bolin to secure the rope to itself, couldn’t you tie a quick link onto the end of your srt rope with a scaffold knot and clip that onto itself after going around the tree a few times? That basically recreates what most use to rappel off of

Yes another thing I've done is tie a end of line alpine butterfly with a quick link

when do you implement the base tie verses a canopy hitch?
Scouting / setting up a tree you can bar tie. For hunting there’s always a chance deer will pick up your scent on the rope at ground level
