  • The Mack has finally arrived on farm!!! But it has issues! We struggle to get it off the truck, but we do eventually get there and show you around the truck and of course take it for a drive!

X MK II operator here. The starter needs pulling down to find the issue, its bypassing air to the exhaust (that inch n half outlet) which not only dumps air but reducers the starters torque and revolutions.
Build a “spider” (air jumper leads) which is a hose that taps into your drive tyres, connects to your starter tank so as to provide air if you there’s not another source around. Use your tyres to start the truck or get the brakes off then pump your tyres up when running.
Spiders are a must for running 8x2’s off road deflating and reinflating.

Youd have to check the current pto will work at high engine speeds, as it may be geared for idle like work being that its a fuel tanker. But probably a way around it. You could also consider the 2" davey twin impellor pumps with the 13hp honda on them, you have a backup rope start, for the $$ your talking you could put two big honda/daveys on there and have pretty impressive and simple pumping setups, big bonus you have two pumps, if one dies , you have a spare. Very impressive compared to the old GX160 firefighters we are all used to. Your diesel option though is nice not needing to have seperate fuel and fuel tanks on board

Re your fire fighting pump setup, why not hydraulic drive your existing pump from your truck engine? You already have a hydraulic tank and your truck engine is large enough. This could save considerable weight and space as you already have some hydraulic setup on the truck.
Thoroughly enjoying your videos, thanks for sharing.

What you are trying to screw in is just the muffler for the starter, does not affect operation. By the sound of the initial start there was enough air to start. It sounded like the fuel had run back to the tank from the injector pump, needs pumping up with the primer pump. There is a check valve where the air goes into the starter tank which should maintain starter air when all other air is lost. I'm sure there will be a Mack man down your way that should be able to sort that for you.

That part you picked up off the floor is just the muffler for the air starter, sometimes they clog up with sh1t and some people love how loud they are

@@tomsbrookfarm any chance they make a electric starter that you could swap in?

    • @tomsbrookfarm
      @tomsbrookfarm  Před 4 měsíci

Apparently you can buy one but you do have to wire it up. In pretty sure we have got the air starter all sorted now. Just need to make sure we have an air compressor to always keep the air up to it.

Check the air start tank for a one way valve so it doesn’t loose the air for starting 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

The pump for the fuel should be able to pump at around 1000 lts a min if it any good. That will run a good canon. 👍
You’d have to check it can be run at high revs while you’re driving the truck as it may only be able to be used at idle.
If George has the same , how have they set theirs up ?

  • @jordankunoth603

You’ve got everything all set up to run the existing hydraulic pump it’d be a lot simpler to purchase one suited to the job and swap it

Hi jh you can put taps on the tank for the two small air lines, get sum new air lines made up turn taps off when not in use, you may need to pull the big air valve off on the bottom of the air start tank and clean and put some rubber grease on the O rings, you may also have fuel draining back from the injector pump, you may need to put some new air lines on it, have a look at the air start silinoid of its leaking air

Everyone saying use the truck PTO, you can’t. With the type of fire fighting you around the farms is chasing fires with the truck. You can’t pump and roll with a PTO.

Just change your settings. Click on the cc and turn them off.
I have started putting them on the videos as nearly 40% of people watch the vids with them on but CZcams’s auto generated ones are horrible. Cause I have put them on it defaults it for you unless you turn them off.
