Fun fact: Mike Flanagan is married to Kate Siegel, the actress who plays Theo. She has always loved his work and played different roles within it, but this role held a special place in her heart and soul. They welcomed their own daughter to the world, and rightfully named her- Theodora.

I definitely feel like I'm missing so much! I can't watch to find out what happens in the end! But this does already seem rewatch worthy!! 😁

Hugh both sees his wife's ghost and imagines her as part of a coping mechanism. It's the imaginary wife talking (aka Hugh himself) when she's giving Hugh all the good advice, which Hugh ignores. There's a reason why he ignores the good advice, but I can't explain it, now. Hugh and the kids all see ghosts and have for years. The ghosts are real, but that doesn't mean the entire family doesn't also suffer from PTSD because of their experiences at Hill House. Of course, we know Steve refuses to accept he sees ghosts because he thinks he and the whole family suffer from mental illness. I also think the whole family has "psychic" abilities, although not necessarily manifested the same way. Remember how they all woke up when Nell died. Shirley knew Nell was in the "red room," and Luke knows Nell didn't kill herself and so does Hugh. Aunt Janet is Olivia's sister and after Olivia's death she went to court to get custody of the children. Somehow, she prevailed in that. I guess because of Hugh's behavior after Olivia supposedly killed herself. Hugh wasn't held responsible for her death. This is why there's bad blood between Aunt Janet and Hugh. This also seems to have caused some of the resentment in the children towards their father, especially in Steve who was very close to his father as a child. Another cause of friction between Hugh and his children seems to be his unwillingness to detail what happened exactly after he returned to Hill House to fetch Olivia. That's clearly one of the central mysteries, those 3 hours. And now we know Hugh is lying about an aspect of those 3 hours because we see he entered the "red room." We already know the role Olivia's ghost played in Nell's death, so it's interesting her ghost tried to pull Luke into Nell's grave and went after Theo. Note how Hugh held onto Theo, then, as if to save her. As far as the police and most people are concerned, there are only two bodies: Olivia's and the body behind the brick wall, aka the "other' or 'second' body. And, yes, Hugh is always trying to "fix" things, but some things can't be fixed.
