My dad works for UPS and since he’s been working there so long he requested a route out in the country - more scenic. About a month ago he recorded a buck running across the beans. It was so big he pulled over to get the video. After looking at it we both agreed it was a booner with potential for more. That buck was harvested a couple days ago and scored 235 and some change. An absolute freak of a buck
Let's not forget the Jordan buck is a 10 pointer which makes it more impressive than any other typical..206 5/8. 5 inches less than this buck with 2 less points is not being blown out of the water.
Or the John Breen buck, which if not for the sticker points would have been the world record, and he was a 10 pointer also. The Jordan buck is a beautiful buck, but I think the Breen buck looks better. Just my opinion though.

Just curious, what was the age of the other bucks being compared? They said this buck was 5 1/2. From shows I’ve watched it seems like 6 1/2 is the age with the best rack potential pending not getting injured, sick or malnourished. Which is crazy to think that deer getting any bigger.
To add to last comment. I don’t think it was mentioned, but in the Waddell interview they said his 4 1/2 sheds were just under 200”. Amazing that deer lasted to 5 1/2.
Friggin giant but to somebody else’s comment. It does not beat Milo’s. That’s Canada. He’s biggest in United States. Congrats Dustin.

Milo Hanson was 215 I believe. A buddy of mine in Alberta cranked a 192 giant 5x5 that's thick like moose pan

I’ve seen the Hanson buck, the Jordan buck, and the Breen buck in person at Cabela’s, and pictures don’t die ANY of these trophies justice!!! It’s hard to imagine a whitetail growing to epic proportions, even after seeing them in person. Even as beautiful, and symmetrically perfect as this deer is, the John Breen buck was a 10 pointer, with 31-2/8”, and 31” main beams respectively. His inside spread was 26-7/8”, and had 6” bases. It grossed 215, and if it didn’t have those 6 sticker points would have been close to this deer at 210-211, with 2 less points. This is still a truly once in a lifetime buck, and wished he would have got the world record. To be only about 2 inches short of the record is still incredible. While the Breen buck is still my favorite typical, this deer ranks a VERY close second. The “Hole in the Horn” will probably always be my favorite non typical though.
This is a phenomenal interview. Thanks for bringing it to us. Really puts things in perspective as to just how big and rare this animal is.

Some people dont understand that high score doesnt necessarily mean gigantic antlers.... Non typs are much larger but lower scoring

I have a 206 7/8 20 pointer on the wall with 29 1/2 & 29 3/4 main beams 23 1/2 inside spread with much more mass! Other then final score everything about my deer scores higher... Including the deductions!!!
But his deer is still an awesome deer! You just can't take that away from any 200" buck!!!
@@dougjones971 i dont shoot big deer.... I hunt in Michigan on heavily pressured state and federal land with mediocre at best food sources... But i still manage a buck almost every year and a few does to go along with it

I hunt 20 miles south of where this deer was killed. Indiana has amazing genetics, food, and mineral sources. I pass 140 inch 2 year olds every year

Yeah indiana is definitely a sleeper state for huge whitetails you don't hear near as much about indiana as you do ohio,iowa,kansas but it can pump out big bucks just like those other states it's produced a net 300" non typical the beck buck and now a net 200" typical in the last 10 years pretty impressive i wish i had relatives that owned land in indiana the states deer management program is definitely working
Being a NC hunter I am not sure I would hold myself together watching 140's on a regular basis. I'd be trigger happy for sure.

That is an impressive Buck ,congrats to Dustin. Doesn't matter if he shot it with a slingshot , most of the time if you put enough time in the woods you may get that once in a lifetime chance and he took advantage of it .....doesn't diminish what weapon he used . I've been in the company of the Hanson Buck at a show a year after he shot it , pictures don't do it justice at all ...still on paper Milo's buck is number 1 but I will say that mass on Dustins buck would look mighty fine on anyones wall
Congratulations!!! Don't know where to start other thank God for this blessing to fall on the man it did instead of a car. So many times we see a to trophy get taken by car and not to a hunter that dreams of a deer like this. No one has a right to take anything away from your trophy weather you harvested it with a bow, gun, doesn't take away from his experience and memories of that. Let's not forget why we love the sport of deer hunting. Keep on hunting and God bless!!
I got me a 300+ pounder a couple years ago and the body made the rack look smaller than it was and it was a great rack, but to hear the rack made the body look small is amazing

I hunt Indiana and the state does have some big bucks just as some of the other top states do. But it’s not like you’re going to find huge bucks everywhere in the state. You still have to have cover, good food sources, genetics and neighbors who will pass on 3 and 4 year old deer to grow a truly large racked mature buck.
I don't understand why milo Hanson buck that was shot thru the antler and taped up was not disqualified as world record,,,there is some injustice going on

First off, impressive Whitetail, but wasn't it taken with a crossbow? David mentioned the Mel Johnson buck and used the term "was" the world record (Pope & Young). This video is a bit confusing, but this is an impressive buck regardless.
Yes it is. Does killing a deer with a crossbow count the same as a firearm? I would think if it was killed with a ARROW/BOLT, it would be in the Pope & Young record book, and not Boone & Crockett? Not sure what the technical ruling would be, but they’re saying Boone & Crockett, so I don’t know either. Have to research this!!!
Pope and Young doesn’t accept animals taken with a crossbow. They are a pretty strict and specific on what they will take as far as an archery harvest. At one point Pope and Young would not accept animals if you used illuminated nocks, or atleast I had been told that. They definitely won’t take animals pursued by dogs if there were electronic tracking devices being used on the dogs during the hunt. I hope you did research it and got the answer already though.

It is bigger than the Hanson buck by total antler inches. Hanson has higher over all score only because of inside spread, which is just empty space.
What a monster of a deer there has been few monsters killed since Milos buck Johnny king 👑 buck is another nice one
A phenomenal animal no doubt; however, a world class 10 pointer, such as the Jordan or Breen buck, does it with fewer points and is more impressive in my opinion (not by much). But just to be fair, the G-5's on this buck, unlike the Milo Hanson buck, are rather short, so it would still rank as a world class deer without them.
The John Breen buck is my personal favorite. Not to take anything from this beautiful trophy, but the Breen buck had 31-2/8”, and 31” main beams, and had a 26-7/8” inside spread, which are both bigger than this buck. If he didn’t have those 6 sticker points, it would be close. He grossed 215, but only netted 202. He was still the world record for a few years though.

Shouldn’t be listed as archery or compared to the Mel Johnson as the archery typical world record. It wasn’t taken by means of archery. Especially when Mel Johnson’s was with a recurve!

It is hard to imagine that the record books dont take the "mass" index into account when judging a bucks size. I am not sure I understand the distinction they were making in this video because I am sure they take some circumfrance measurements into the final score but perhaps not all of the mass as a total.
Great Buck. That is what keeps men going out each year knowing that they really never know what they might run into some day.
What they are saying is you only get 4 mass measurements on each side and they are on the main beam. If you have tines that are like pencils or tines that are like baseball bats, they get no difference in score. It’s a very outdated and illogical scoring system.

This deer is almost as impressive as "The General" whitetail buck that is the overall record holder.
Record holder for what?
The odds makers fall apart whenever someone does something remarkable. Dustins odds were one in one the moment he decided to hunt that day. A course of events was set in motion. I prefer the word fate or to think of it as Gods will.
In my opinion our record books are a little screwed, I honestly believe that mass measurement should be more important.

Them itch rompala bucks antlers come out of the skull plate flat with a wide spread between brows much like this deer. They claim its a fake because of this shape.

I know bucks "travel" when they're cruising for does but , that's insane . Some people suggested he'd been hit by a vehicle and was just wondering around ? Nice buck and not taking away anything away from the guy who shot it, but it's SO DUMB how they score these deer. And there are bigger bucks killed out there but some guys just don't report them cuz they just don't want the attention.

certainly not the second largest ever, maybe since they started recording, seen so many old half racks and busted racks here in old Canadian barns and garages that would scare you, I can only imagine some of the old bucks of the past before they were killed at an average age of 1.5

This should be the #1. Much bigger mass than the Hanson buck. At least this giant has a much better story. The way the Hanson buck was killed was pathetic. “Hold my beer while I run this buck out of a thicket and you shoot it”. No scouting and out smarting the giant. Pathetic.

The deer is absolute giant but killing a buck as an able bodied person with a crossbow, during archery season is as impressive as hitting one with a truck. I’m 46yrs old, 21 screws, 3 titanium bars in my left arm. Shot my missouri 10pt this yr at 39yds and had to lean my back against the tree because I can’t hold the pin like I used to. Hoyt RX4
