    Just inserted first IPort. Not problem inserting. Notice needle comes out a little bent. Last night took a long time for insulin to work but I did have more fat than usual. Of course I stacked and went low later. Sometimes difficult to find site for needle to go in. Can’t imagine wearing anyplace but abdomen or maybe arm so I can reach. Will
    Move Dexcom to leg. But so far love not sticking myself. Thanks for your video

      It usually gets insulin to work quicker for me but maybe thats because my legs are a bit wrecked and lumpy from insulin over the years. I've got a little bit of a belly so usually mine sticks in fine and stays fine. My needle doesn't come out bent, maybe you hit rock hard abs... I lack them. 🤣

    Great video!! I’m so needle phobic, I really really wanted these!! Of course my insurance doesn’t cover them!! I can get 3 months off Omnipod dash or 5 for less than two months of these! 😢

      It's odd to me that these aren't readily available when they are such an excellent tool

    Hi Chris, just found this video and your channel.
    Have you noticed any issues with the iport"needle" getting bent when applying it?
    I'm having constant issues applying it to my daughter (5 years old) where the needle gets bent resulting in no insulin getting in her body.
    Do you have any tips on applying it? Like how much you push it down against the skin when applying and such.

      Personally I've always got a little fat on my stomach so I tend to push a large area of it together and fire it in there. I can imagine it's a lot harder with younger ( probably with less meat) people. I Personally apply medium pressure and pinch up a wide area around the iport. Sorry I can't be more help, I think the more you do it you'll find the sweet spot

      @@ChrisVSCysticFibrosis Thanks for the reply. I'll try the pinch up method next time to see if it helps. Currently i'ts about 50/50 success rate

    Hi noticed the punctures are a lot bigger, then from needles . Do they heal as good as the needle punctures. If you do this year round does it leave marks.

    • @ChrisVSCysticFibrosis
      @ChrisVSCysticFibrosis  Před 8 měsíci

      I tend to switch between the two, I know what you mean about the bigger punctures, if left on for a while it can be sore and lumpy. I tend to use each side of my stomach once and then go back to normal injections for a few days. I haven't noticed any damage to my stomach or the way it looks overall

      You ever do it on the back of your arm ? Also , do you ever feel like you need more insulin in the port to be effective then , regular shots ?

    not sure if you will see this but hello! 16 year old who has just been diagnosed with diabetes and the nurses today and have told me to look into iports and decide if theyd be good for me as j really struggle with injections and my legs are so sore i struggle to walk sometimes. would this benefit me?

    • @ChrisVSCysticFibrosis
      @ChrisVSCysticFibrosis  Před rokem

      It did to get rid of the build up of insulin in my legs and mine are far less sore. I mix and match personally, when I'm sick of doing it in my stomach I go back to leg. I think the fact that it's one injection every few days might help you ease into the needle side s bit more. I can assure you though after a little while you'll get comfortable with the injections like I did! All the best!

    I just got these a day or so ago and I had to remove my first one because it was burning and aching while I slept. Do you have any tips on how to sleep more comfortably with these? Like is it ok to lay on them?

    • @ChrisVSCysticFibrosis
      @ChrisVSCysticFibrosis  Před 2 lety

      I've always been fine sleeping on mine, I find that if it hurts or burns it doesn't tend to get better so i move mine to the other side. It's a waste but it happens. If it's in right then you shouldn't feel any pain until its ready to come out

    • @ChrisVSCysticFibrosis

      As far as I'm aware there is no reason it wouldn't be, when doing an online search it does say children can benefit

    I got this device for my three year old who just been diagnosed. Does the insulin get stuck or you always notice it works. I asked because I put some medication in it but it took foreveR to take affect. Normally it doesn’t

    • @ChrisVSCysticFibrosis
      @ChrisVSCysticFibrosis  Před 2 lety +1

      As long as your needle is long enough to get right through and it is in a good position on the body I find it gets in quicker. Saying that I have naturally built up a bit of resistance on my legs from doing insulin directly into them for years so it's bound to be faster for me each time. On some occasions I have had to immediately take it out and move it into a different place because it feels like it isn't going in right, this is usually accompanied by a stinging sensation. I guess it's a bit more difficult to judge with a 3 year old. My only recommendation is to look for signs that it's uncomfortable on your child and monitor how the sugars are doing. If its all correct you generally don't feel any pain or even notice it on yourself. Sorry to ramble 😂.

      @@ChrisVSCysticFibrosis thank you so much I been watching him closely. He actually ended up getting sick these last four days. So that was the reason why insulin was taking forever to work. My little boy had a cold. We are finally moving in a better direction and he no longer looks as sick. He loves the port because it means less shots. He helps me put it on and he such a brave little boy. I can’t believe how strong he is and you of course. Type 1 diabetes community are strong individuals and I hope my son grows up healthy. I’m trying my best even though sometimes I feel like I’m doing horrible. :(

      I guarantee you that when he grows up he will appreciate everything you have done. My parents made sure I did everything when I was young for my Cystic Fibrosis, they didn't have a clue if they were doing right or wrong as CF was not massively known about back then. They dragged me through it, sometimes kicking and screaming. They had to play the bad guy sometimes to keep me well. And I owe everything to them. I remember only that they tried their hardest and never let me down. Bottom line, you sound like you are doing amazing and your boy will appreciate all of it when he is older I'm sure!
