Can You Put a Clubsport Bumper on a New GTI?

- There are many European models that we don’t get in the US that we drool over. One of them is the Clubsport GTI. The first Clubsport GTI was introduced in 2016 and is a GTI with upgraded everything. They have the same engine found in Golf R models, and the Clubsport S, set a world record for the fastest FWD car around the Nurburg ring.
For MK8 the Clubsport GTI isn’t much different, it gets an Upgraded engine, exhaust, and even exterior parts. While we can't get a Club Sport MK8 GTI in the US you can retrofit parts like this!
We imported a Club Sport MK8 GTI Front Bumper from Europe to see if it would fit on our US Spec MK8 GTI. We also see if it's possible to keep the X pattern Foglights from our original bumper!

And thus, Paul becomes responsible for the first set of MK8 fog lights up for sale on the North American secondary market…
"But the clubsport muffler" bro that's a bumper I think
Says you, maybe.
Nope definitely a muffler 😄
That’s a good looking muffler
It’s an FMM. For burping rather than farting.
What a great looking paint job on that bumper! Spot on color match. ;)
I honestly love all the videos you come out with. I don't care what you're talking about but the way that you just deliver everything is hilarious!
I kinda like the fog lamps makes the car look unique
I wish we got this color in South Africa, its gorgeous 🤤😔
I am an American living and working in Europe, I have many friends here who have installed the side markers on there cars.
I'm sure that you can order that color here in sa, youll just have to wait a couple weeks/months longer
@@muhammadpanjwani3887 I don't think so I believe its a US exclusive colour. Will find out from my dealer though.
I've honestly been surprised how many more clubsports I see over here in Germansland than the basic gti, honestly can't even remember seeing a mk8 gti yet.
The stance and the wheels looks really good. Looking forward to see what you guys do with the r.
Another great video! Keep them coming!
I can watch videos like this for days!!
Looks awesome. I did something very similar with my MKIV Jetta when it was new. Installed a Euro bumper, bumper support and Hella headlamp washer system. Which also required a new washer tank, additional pump for the washers and a relay but it was cool... :) Most awesome thing I discovered was the system only washed the headlamps when the lights were on. During the day, you could use your windshield washers and the headlamp washers would stay off.
Man! What a sharp looking rig! Huge DAP fan!
Much respect.
Al from South Africa.
Watching this from SA now and the content is always good👍
@@alroywilliams5386 ha ha! Good to know I'm not alone!
Love watching you do things I’d never do to mine.
good video, entertaining and helpful for all those for years to come.
I've done the exact same thing on a Mk6 GTI, I've installed a GTI Edition 35 bumper like a year ago. Seems like not much has changed in two generations, I've transferred all the parts, parking sensors, headlight washers and harness. I didn't have any special tools for the parking sensors holes and used a Step drill bit and worked perfectly, no mess. For the adhesive I've used some sort of a seam sealer from my local hardware store, also did the job nicely. The markings for the sensors on the mk6 bumper on the inside are just the same, I was also pleasantly surprised when I saw it as I was thinking how I should match the placement. A plus was the fact that I got to keep my fog lights. I was lucky enough that I bought the bumper from a friend, it was complete and already was painted in the same white body color. What I would recommend to do is drill the parking sensors before painting the bumper and also fitment testing any part before sending it to the paint shop. I'm speaking from personal experience with the Mk6 R side skirts on my GTI. Also would've been a nice touch to spray paint all the black grills in gloss black previous of installing them, instead of leaving them in raw matte plastic finish. Also applies to the rear diffuser. Great video nonetheless as always Paul, love watching these even though I live in Europe and I've sold my GTI in the meantime and got a manual Seat Leon Cupra 280 which unfortunately you don't get in USA, which is basically a FWD mk7 R or a Mk7 GTI Clubsport, which also is not available there. Really a bummer.
Another great video - your car looks awesome :)
Turned out great looking guys!
man that looks great! had no idea you guys were barely 50 miles from me. gonna have to bring my mk3 Jetta down for a little work soon.
I didn’t like the mk8 design from the initial reviews and i didn’t like it until 20 minutes ago.. that looks sick Paul! Really dig your setup with the wheels and everything! Interior still a step i the wrong direction in my opinion though.. awesome mk8.

I subbed I was laughing my butt off was fun too watch 💪🏽
That was a really nice Ginster Yellow Mk3 that you had in your shop expansion shot
Damn. That's a massive improvement!
It looks really good kudos, idk why but with this mod the pamelo yellow looks good to me now
Looks super cool!
Definitely looks much better than the OEM us version. Thanks for sharing 👍😁
Dude, that looks WAY better than the stock bumper!
Looks great, just watched your mk7 club sport video and you forgot the bumper cover on that one too haha
This looks SOOOOOO much better !!

Good to see I can get one of the most inner sensor popped out without taking the bumper off since it seemed like you could get your arm in to unplug ut
Why can’t they just sell the club sport here
We don't get the Clubsport in South Africa either and we are one of the biggest GTI markets in the world😑
Because you do not have the Nürburg close. 🤣
Love it.
My least favorite part about the MK8 GTI is the tonsillitis that’s happening down there and this was a life savin procedure.
Honestly it’s really cool that you did this, and color matched it to boot. But, I honestly like the original bumper design a bit more. Unpainted plastic isn’t my thing and I really like the ‘domino’ fog lights on my car, I’d hate to lose them. That being said, this is still insanely cool because it’s so unique. I just lowered my MK8 with springs I bought from you guys. Keep it up!
I feel the same. Looks like it's a lot of time and money to do this, for something that I think looked better before... But, to each their own of course; it does make the car unique but even then the only people that are even going to notice are "GTI people", lol.
Yeah... I concur. These fogs are unique to the 40th anniversary spec I think... So it kinda defeats the purpose of buying that edition... doesn't it? I dunno... I didn't see the 40th graphics on the car so I may be wrong... but the paint color is also unique to the 40th... I thought.
@@jcarhactually…no, no, and no. The Car is an Autobahn, not a 40th, that’s why there are no decals. The color made its debut on the Autobahn GTI as a limited availability launch color, and then showed up the following year again on the 40th AE. And lastly, those fog lights are on every US GTI.
20:24 might be my OCD but that passenger fender looks to be sticking out more than the hood. Either way, GTI is coming along great! I sat in the MK8 and I did notice the steering wheel tilt doesn't go as high as previous gen, what do you think?
Well, that's not your OCD
nah i noticed it to. its triggering me. no way wolkswagen would have done that from the factory lmao
@@ChocoBaiterEUW That's what happens when you remove the crash bar which holds the core support & bonnet latches in 6:18
Regular vw quality lately
HAHA love this video! car looks dope!
Just got my gti mk8 yesterday, absolutely love it definitely no need for the R
I like the clubsport bumper a lot!
As a VAG body guy, who does stuff like this daily, it was hilarious to see the struggles a non bodyshop like guy you had haha. You did alright for a newbie though.
You may have issues with the side parking sensors down the line. as you missed some important steps for a durable glue job. Also about the snug holes, you need a 19mm hole punch for these.
i thought the same thing here, in the final view after everything is reassembled you can see that the sensors are not flush with the bumper, not for nothing there are special punching and assembly tools from VW for this purpose
p.s.: VW/Audi mechanic here
Yeah it was a snug fit. Makes sense that 19mm is the correct size. I think that’s part of the reason it isn’t as flush as I would like.
I was told that there may also be a difference in the shape of the headlights, so unfortunately I have not mounted an R bumper on my R-line. is that correct about the shape?
Those fogs are cool! I wouldn't want to lose them
another insane project.i like it.
I really like the look of that bumper and the cool thing is not need change anything aside of course of the bumper
Looks so good.
Grear Video.
My Golf R is being delivered on monday after 9 months wait in the UK.
I really dislike the grill lightbar illumination at night and wonder if i could disconnect the two lightbar connectors and refit the grill without it throwing any hard error codes on the dash?
Looks Great!
Oh, and great videos Paul. Keep up the awesome work! BTW, are you considering adding a dash cam to your GTI? That would be a cool CZcams video to add to your collection. It'll also be my first project when my son takes delivery of his GTI. I'm outfitting him with a Viofo A129 Duo Pro 4K system. 🙂
Looks good, hope you order the correct tow cover! hahaha
Looks great
Love you Duncan!
No clue why i watched the video :P i am from germany and mostly interested in golf VII Clubsport
Anyway nice video with good looking result at the end :)
Nice video and so much info on how to fit the bumper. Pity no one has done the same for Audi cars. Would an RS3 bumper fit an S3???
Quality upgrade Sir 😁
Even though I don't like the MK8 GTI and have no intention of getting one or this bumper, I'm watching the video because Paul is always hilarious on these videos. He can make them informative and funny at the same time.
I'm not even into VW/Audi (I have plenty of friends that are though) but I'm here for the same reason. Paul lol
Haha love his sense of humour.
Loved the Petey Pablo reference🚁
Change the light switch to clubsport one :) great video.
Change out the light switch for one without fog lights if you are really bothered by that. Car looks great!
CS bumper is the way to go. Better looking and more aggressive than the R bumper. 👍🏼
The fog lights are awesome on the car.
What software/dongle did you use to try to code out the foglights? ATM I'm using OBDEleven on my own VAG shitbox but I'm pretty unsatisfied with it, very lacking in the graphs department, cannot do long coding on some modules and development seems to have stalled in the past year.
Sick clubsport bumper and fog lights are sick too, it is gonna be a hard decision to make for mk8 owners
Looks much better
I like the subtle sarcasm and the gti fan boy self deprecating humor. Not taking himself too seriously 👌
I Love the Sidemarker on US-Versions.
Put it on every car since I bought my 1973 Super Beetle.
Can not believe, that you remove this 🙂
after you coded out the fog lights did you have to do an info-tainment reset to save the change
dat yellow mk3 looks damn hot
Any new info on coding out fogs and the side marker? Also any instructions for switching to the golf r euro switch and how to rewire for it with no front fogs but rear fog with mk8 euro tails?
Sweet look
Prefab that and call it the “Holy Grill”!!
good thin you guys are professional ion this area . haha
Any chance you could post the parking sensor hole punch kit?
And tire and RF RSE wheel sizes/specs are on the car? Looks great.
Try cutting one of the foglight sections off, make them triangles. cover the resulting hole in the foglight module with left over 2 part epoxy.
Hi, Don't suppose you have a full list of part numbers for everything you need to fit the bumper..
Pete Pablo reference was actually really cool to hear, not nonsense.
My son is taking delivery on a 2022 Golf GTI S next month. Which Golf forum do you recommend he join? Thanks!
So if someone has a S base model and would want to have the SE or higher in front lights with the light bar, can it be plug and play ?
Could you help find mudflaps for the MK8 golf R? I've been looking for a while now but haven't been able to see any. I'd love to stop kicking up stuff onto the side of my car :(
Painting the hidden fog light surround black should be called the Paulie mod, as a throwback to the Joey mod, except only Paul would ever think to do that.
LOL at the Petey Pablo reference
*that's slick guys*
Hello my friend I have just one question please ? Is it hard to remove " Side bumper fender flares" I don't know exactly what they are called those plastic trim on bumper ----thnx a million :D
Mista-mista! Do you need to remove the front bumper to remove a headlight housing? I found 3 of the top bolts to remove and it’s wiggling around, but it feels like there’s another bolt somewhere.
Is the bumper removal process essentially the same with an mk8 R?
I've noticed the US version of Gti Mk8 doesn't have the red stripes/lines above the headlights like in EU or The UK. Any comment on why?
Does the clubsport have its own fog lights you can retro fit?
I am certain that with a little Dremel work (maybe before painting the bumper) you can actually fir the fog lights...that look great imho.
Are you going to change the rear tailgate spoiler to a Clubsport type?
Need to find a way to retrofit the fog lights into the clubsport bumper. It's the only thing stopping me from doing this because I LOVE the fog lights on my MK8. Man when the season comes around I'm going to have to steal some of these clubsport pieces on my car especially the muffler.
After installing i hearing by bumps en not even roads a metal to metal clunck everything installed good so whats the problem
Good job, but what was wrong with the stock bumper?
10/10 For Petey Pablo reference.
Question: Wasn't any possibility to order a bumper with holes for the parking sensors from the factory? With one of the cars that I owned(not a VW) you could order the front bumper with or without parking sensors holes( depending if your car had or not, the front parking sensors)
Nope can’t. Depends on the car. Some come with them some you need to put holes
Does the removal of the logo grille request adas calibration?
Can I replace R-line bumper by GTI one with fog light ?
looks sick, are you by chance going to be selling your oem bumper?!
I removed my bumper and now I have sensor errors and Diy intercooler upgrade and the hood won't close properly and headlight assembly doesn't line up properly on the fender/hood area.
when you drilled the hole into the bumper my soul left my body
Damn Petey Pablo reference. Didn't see that coming
I was thinking to make those parts from stainless steal from very thin aluminium. What do u think about it.?
original bumper looks good too
After the dealer drilled license plate holes in my front bumper im for sure doing this to my mk8.
Could you not get a bumper with PDC holes?
I just watched a 20 minute video on how to replace the bumper, with no intention of even trying since I like the fog lights. But the CS bumper looks way better...similar to the Golf R.
