I'm just trying to wrap my head around the fact that she killed her best friend, lied about it to the police for 2 years, basically confessed to her aunt along with having FIFTY prior charges against her and only got a 7 year sentence!
That is a slap in the face to the family!! I wish them nothing but comfort and peace 🙏🏾🥺
Which by the end of this year she will be free😮
A perfect example of gender bias 💯
@@SeanCarterCFH but another female didn’t receive justice…
I’m telling you 😤
This is the Canadian justice system at its best
7 years for killing someone is bonkers to me. This girl destroyed 2 families and got 7 years? This is insane.
Judges in Canada are *_required_* to give lighter sentences to "Indigenous" people. Being a woman also helps.
@@djm5687 they can do whatever they want. 100 churches nothing
@annwethenorth The churches weren't necessarily burned down by Indigenous people. I suspect that many White folks burned them down after being "inspired" by their teachers.
As a Canadian I am ashamed by our justice system and the short sentences it gives to literal murderers and rapists
@@conradkavinsky9468 You should be *_proud_* of the Canadian justice system because despite "light" sentences, *_Canada has a lower crime rate_* than the United States. "Tough" sentences don't necessarily lead to less crime.
It took two years for them to think to check the object or her death for fingerprints or dna? Wow. I understand a few months not thinking of it but years she walked free? Then she only got 7 years for murder? Even drunk that’s a disgrace. She may have accidentally did it but damn 7 years isn’t anything.
I was thinking the same thing as I watched the video. If thins really were like described in the video, then:
They found the belt when they found the body.
And then they determined that it was the murder weapon, we don't have a timeline on that but presumably that realization came with the autopsy report, so lets say a few months after that at most.
Then they just put it into storage, not checking it for dna until after it was noticed to be in that photo. Seems kinda crazy.
I mean if you check any one thing for dna, wouldn't it the murder weapon? It shouldn't have taken that photo to get them to check it.
They shoulda checked it for dna immediately since it was found next to a body in an unsolved murder. And failing that, they have even less excuse for not checking it for dna after they realized it was the murder weapon.
I could see them checking it for dna and there being no match if they don't have the suspect's dna on record, but then they'd have the unknown killer's dna and would merely be waiting for a match, that'd still be a better position to be in, than just having it in a box somewhere.
as someone from there, sask police are a total joke. i go on drives with my sister often for fun and the amount of officers we see in their damn marked official police cars running red lights, speeding, not yeilding at fourway stops, all without their lights/siren on is just insane. like they dont even pretend like theyre doing it for a reason.
That’s Canadian “criminal justice” for you.
Totally incompetent. They have one real person of interest and the belt used for the murder, yet they never thought to try to connect them through DNA until years later after someone noticed the belt in a photo?? What were they doing for 2 years??
How exactly would someone accidentally strangle their friend with a belt? 😶
This wasn't manslaughter, she took her belt off in order to murder her friend. As for her pleading guilty and showing remorse, she only did so because it benefitted her... The fact she got just 7 years for murder is crazy, even more so when you consider her 50+ previous arrests/convictions...
If you’re going to be a criminal, be a woman and in Canada. 😉
I agree. I think it was premeditated, seeing as she "knocked her out" first. She didn't have to strangle her then. This native woman got a good lawyer and the victim's family got nothing. Everyones too afraid to put the native girl in jail because she "had a bad life". she probably had a better life than lots of other people. Past lives shouldn't count. you have to be responsible for your own crimes, not blame others.
A Gladue report was used in the sentencing, which bases sentencing on an Indigenous background.
The report, to be simplistic, states: "This person's parents were in residential school, had substance abuse, and trauma, so the crime isn't completely their fault"
This is a very basic example, but the report, in a way, justifies a crime based on cultural, familial and systemic background factors. Is it a good or bad thing? Depends on who you ask.
I have found that our Canadian justice system favours the criminal more so than the victims and their loved ones
Same in France unfortunately
True. It's total nonsense.
we can only hope for some good old jail house justice. Since yup, Canada is led by out of touch idiots. The laws are constantly in favour of the perpetrators.
Same in the US
American justice system is and has been doing the same.
Being from Saskatchewan, I remember this story. The only problem with this video is the fact that we have no mountains.
The mountains are the first thing I noticed too.😂😂
Lmao, just a little bc added for beauty
Yup...don't go to SK for mountains! 😂
Mislabeled stock pics? 😂
Edited: pics! Not prices! 😂 auto correct strikes again!
…or mountains got mixed in because she loved snowboarding? 🧐
“Cheyanne’s DNA was found all over it”… why couldn’t they just carefully analyze the belt (murder weapon) in the first place?!
7 years is absolutely fkn disgusting but not as disgusting as the detectives taking 2 years when she was wearing the evidence in that photo 😮
As someone living in Saskatoon, I appreciate you covering this case. Its super neat to hear your favorite youtubers discussing your hometown.
Nice to hear about something coming out of Saskatchewan at all!
@@doom_wrx right, like Saskatchewan doesnt really have much going for it lol
Yes I agree love hearing this!
Saskatoon is absolutely beautiful. I was surprised to hear Adrian's opening about crime.
I hate to break it to you, but this is not a tourism video.
Can I just give props to Adrian for not padding his videos with, like 15 minute long, interrogation footage that add nothing to the video other than forced watch time.
Yeah I too dislike that I just fast forward ...can't stand it!.
Could not agree more, “explore with us” needs to take some notes
@@benliftin4awhileexplore with us is a bit different as it's a channel that breaks down interrogations and how they operate, so the footage makes sense
@lainiw4kura learned a bit from explore with us because of how they explain interrogation videos. :)
@@lainiw4kura They also do a whole lot of pointless speculating about body language and such nonsense
Glad that Aunt finally decided to act like a human with empathy. Everyone - if you know something - tell the police. Give respect to the victim and all that know them, as well as having justice be served. I know the justice system isn't perfect, but victims deserve justice. Full stop.
Unless the victim is a scumbag that had it coming
Unfortunately, ACAB and "stop snitching" mentality takes over.
Unbelievable that the Police hadn't fully analyzed the belt (murder weapon) for 2 years before they noticed the murderer wearing it in a photo???!!!! That belt should've been fully investigated as a matter of priority, and they could've/would've linked it to the prime suspect straight away... smh
Seven years could have been a just sentence if she had admitted the crime right away. After two years of hiding it, no way.
Hi Adrian, sending greetings from Trinidad & Tobago! Been watching your videos from the beginning. The way you tell these stories are unmatched. Continue to do what you do!!!

There's a missing girl in South Africa. Her name is Joslin Smith. I was hoping if you could cover this or post about it, it could really bring a lot more awareness and coverage to possibly help find her.❤
Just looked this up! Poor girl, I hope she is found and is able to recover from this clear case of horrific abuse.
If I may be shallow for a moment: this look is *really* working for you, Adrian! 😍
Yassss. He is looking 👀 goodt. I was nervous to make this comment as well.
Y'all trippin
For all of us that follow Adrian on a weekly basis, any change is noted - not shallow at all if taken in the correct context. Howdy from Australia.
Yes, he looks so freaking handsome !
Keep it in y'all's pants. Jesus
I really appreciate you taking the time to provide nuance and context to the background of Cheyenne’s parents. Residential schools are one of the greatest tragedies in the history of the americas (Abya Yala). It doesn’t excuse their abuse, but it does provide important nuance to the damage of generational trauma and history of genocide and the new world.
7 YEARS is utterly insane! Seriously because she pled guilty and pretended to be remorseful she got a little over half the possible max prison time? Why not knock 6 months off if the judge felt it was necessary? Certainly not 5 years off!! I feel terrible for Brittany and her family because that sentence is a slap in the face. If she was actually remorseful she would have said what the motive was.
When two people who are heavily intoxicated with alcohol and drugs argue and fight, there is no "motive" when one of them ends up dead.
@@polycarp9897That is utter nonsense. Just because someone is high or drunk does not mean there wasn't an underlying motive to begin with and the drugs or alcohol removed the hesitation of actually doing it.
@@AnthonyJ504You clearly know nothing about the effects alcohol and drug use has on people. Often, people under the influence lose themselves and do things which they can't even remember when the alcohol or drugs wear off.
You can speculate about the motives of a drunk or high person but it's a fool's gambit. This is why this woman (despite covering up the crime for two years) wasn't charged with murder.
There is no way to deduce the motives of someone under the influence. The reason is such people are often not themselves.
@@polycarp9897 You clearly think alcohol or drugs is an excuse. Once again just because someone is under the influence does not mean there is no motive. You're argument that when a person ends up dead between two people high or drunk there is no motive is simply untrue. Sometimes that could be the case, other times there's a motive.
Defendant is a woman. They usually receive a lighter sentence than men would for the same charges.
7 Years for murder is just insane. With her habit of being under the influence and blacking out (if she really was blacked out or not) being close to her or her being close to anyone is just dangerous. She will always be unpredictbale while intoxicated and therefore always be a threat to people. That she "only" got manslaughter and 7 years behind bars is no justice for Brittney or her family. She will definitely see the inside of a prison again after being released some day.
She didn't commit murder, she committed manslaughter. Also, she is Indigenous and *_supposed_* to receive a lighter sentence in the name of "equity". Also, you don't know that she will reoffend. Karla Homolka, Benny Binion, Don King, and Mark Wahlberg are just a few of the *many* examples of convicted killers who have lead good lives upon release. Unlike the US, Canada doesn't subscribe to the "lock em up and throw away the key" mentality. Yet Canada has a *_lower_* crime rate than the US....
The Canadian Justice system has an explicit bias towards pre-colonial peoples. Judges are required to give them lighter sentences.
@@PlaguedByEarth Doesn't that contradict the basic principle of "Equal Justic Under Law"?
@@PlaguedByEarth That's in part because the Canadian government screws them over in non-official ways; the courts then let things slide to keep up appearances that they are being accomodated. But even so, 2nd degree murder is not open and shut when someone is claiming being under the influence.
I wholeheartedly despise weak prosecution and weak judges. Prosecution should have thrown more charges at her to get her in jail longer. Lying to the police in of itself is a crime
Lying to the police to cover yourself isn't punishable by law.
But without proof of intent, you simply can't do someone on murder. Throw those charges and she gets off entirely. Would you rather that.
Or would you rather a court system that bases rulings on things that can't be proven properly so long as you get your sense of justice? Because I certainly don't.
The story of the blackey bogey man never fails as a go to alibi. I can't believe she only got 7 years. That is a shameful sentence for someone who lied to save her arse for 2 whole years. I feel for the family's loss and then to be further traumatized by that pitiful sentence.
Exactly. Brittany gone at a young age. Cheyenne out free at a young age.
Canada is way too easy on murderers for a country that doesn't allow its citizens to keep firearms.
I was so mad and disappointed to hear one of my fellow indigenous turtle island people using that awful racist trope as an excuse to get out of something she clearly did. Her auntie should have turned her in earlier tbh.
i love the way you speak of the poor victims. deeply respectful.
I grew up in Sask. and never once did I see a mountain, they don't call it the 'prairies' for nothing.

They had the belt the whole time, Why was it not tested for DNA until they saw it in the picture on her? That makes absolutely no sense.
Just one note, “southern province” isn’t really an appropriate description for anything in Canada. Canada is oriented east to west. The provinces are in columns, the only points north of all of them are the territories. “Central Canadian” is the correct reference for Saskatchewan.
I remember this case. Another class video man, keep it up.
true, also, there are not many mountains in Saskatchewan, I think those pictures of mountains may be of Alberta
I started following your channel long before you even had a million subs and to see you now are at almost 2 million subs..!! YOU COMPLETELY DESERVE IT AND MANY MORE! One of CZcamss best channels hands down 😊♥️♥️♥️
I didn't know about Cheyenne's past. That is all so tragic. While it doesn't excuses what she did (as (speaking as a Canadian myself) there are literally thousands of kids like her who have inherited the trauma of residential schools and mistreatment of First Nations children in foster care), its sadly a horrific and very real part of our reality in this country, and most of them never kill anyone...to act like she didn't have a choice is to ignore the strength of the many, many First Nations people who never do what she did) it's also impossible to not ask if Cheyenne couldn't have lived a much better life and Brittney might not still be alive if Canada had not had the residential schools, or...at the very least, more recently (though residential schools were open till the 1990s...so *very* much so "more recently") had actually done something to help the survivors heal instead of continuing the cycle of trauma.
I live in Alberta which is west of Sask, i have been there many times. The pictures you are showing are of Alberta or B.C, Sask has virtually no mountains the Rocky Mountains run between B.C. and Alberta. Enjoy your show.
Saskatchewan’s so flat, you can see Manitoba from here in Alberta 😹

SEVEN YEARS?! That's a slap in the face to her family. Regardless of her being intoxicated and having no motive, the girl continued on with life without a care in the world. Where was the remorse? Making a post about her while hiding the fact that she murdered her is outrageous.

You do such a superb job painting the picture of the victims lives and the towns where these tragic events happen. Often true crime stuff is like an hour long video all about the perpetrator, I appreciate the attention you pay to telling rhetorical victims stories
The treatment of indigenous peoples and stripping of their cultural identity by settlers is truly awful and has had terrible consequences throughout the generations. But there is no excuse for turning against a kind good friend no matter how bad your childhood.
Lol the settlers. It was the gov and the catholic church. My gigi was too busy farming and trying to survive the winter without the luxuries we have today, to worry about canadian politics.
Not for nothing, the first thing that should have been done was check that belt for any and ALL DNA found. That didn’t happen? It was there. They found it two years after the fact. And only 7 years because she showed remorse AFTER she got caught?
Someone’s putting something in the Tim Hortons in that town for cops to screw up this bad.

They had the murder weapon, the suspect, and a photo of the suspect WEARING the murder weapon, but it took them 2 years to put the pieces together and test the belt for her DNA? Good grief, this police department isn’t exactly on top of their game.
It was because of her parents background and her own history that they didn't try harder. Must have been a cop new to town that noticed the belt, and did his job.
