- James Bond (Pierce Brosnan) in his Aston Martin Vanquish duels with Zao (Rick Yune) in the Jaguar XKR on the frozen lake in DIE ANOTHER DAY. Yune said, “You have these two powerful machines that are built for battle, but they’re facing off against each other as if in a ballet, dancing on ice.” Directed by Lee Tamahori with Halle Berry as Giacinta 'Jinx' Johnson, as seen in this scene.

Ah this was the bond film I grew up with.
People may dislike it, but it will always have a special place in my heart.
My favourite movie especially the opening scene.
I am totally agree with you !!! I still love this movie !!! It has all the elements of a true great James Bond movie !!! 😀😍😎
Same here
I grew up with this movie too. One of the first ones I saw and I also played the bond games with brosnan as the lead. So there's just something loveable about these crazy action unrealistic action scenes
The first film I can remember coming out in the cinema.
To me, this is the best Bond car chase. Everything from the action to the music to the fact both characters get a sleek gadget-laiden car.
As a kid, I was obsessed with this scene
Always will have a soft spot for this chase scene: If memory serves, this is the only time Bond and the Villain were on equal footing, both driving gadget laden cars.
I remember seeing a part of this movie when I was very young. It was my first Bond film lol
I always wondered why it took until Die Another Day for the bad guys to also have a gadget laden vehicle.
How bout Spectre
@@creativeguy1martinez693 007 옥토퍼시
Something like that, yes.
Brosnan is so cool and bad ass in this sequence. The little expressions he pulls, or doesn't pull, are fantastic. He gets a lot of stick these days and I don't really know why. He had the dry humour of Connery, the ruthlessness of Dalton, the sauveness of Moore, the toughness of Craig etc. I always found his films an enjoyable watch and a nice bit of escapism, with something the newer films are lacking - FUN.
Also the sound of the Aston's engine is GLORIOUS. 😍
Pierce Brosnan Handsome and Suave. Daniel Craig The best Bond so far. Casino Royale, is the best Bond movie so far.
It's pretty interesting to see whay the new Bond will bring to the role... whoever it'll be
@@hunterxsimple3821 Nicholas Hoult is the better choice. Young, good looking and 6'3"
Nicholas Hoult is a good choice
Brosnan made Bond feel real, and he had swagger that was unmatched. His 4 films were classic and each textbook examples of what Bond films SHOULD BE.
Probably the only sequence in the movie where the over-the-top tech and gadgets didn't feel so excessive. I especially like how Bond used the ejector seat to unflip the Vanquish.
Yeah Brosnan's Bond always managed to use gadgets not quite the way they were intended to. Which was clever as it meant the Q pay-offs aren't predictable.

WTF? RWD car on wet icy sloping roads? Yeah right!
Hovercrafts? Fencing scene? What gadgets?
...Bond had an invisible car, and Zao had a convertible with a bad CGI gatling cannon that happened to have thermal imaging.
The bit where he activates the traction spikes only makes you realise it would have been impossible to drive on that surface all that time without them.
Well snow is like driving on sand the ice itself is hard but this was done practically for the most part
Pirelli
*Pushes Bond nerd glasses up nose* They tried to use spikes for filming but they were actually too grippy on the ice, they scaled them down to metal studs on the tyres iirc
It's 2020 and I still wouldn't mind driving either one of these cars.
Definitely the Vanquish for me, although the gearbox is utter dog shite 😅
@@lewiskemp9732 I would drive the 2008 (?) Aston Martin DBS someday
@@hunterxsimple3821 If you’re talking about one of the 2 cars in the video, it’s certainly not 2008. This movie was released in ‘02.
@@PatBat3man yeah I know, I just wanted to tell that I'd like to drive that car
@@lewiskemp9732 I think Aston Martin actually did a thing, where they replaced the transmission with a manual one for a hefty price...
Just as wealthy old dudes won't recognise he's being hustled out of his fortune by someone younger and sexier than him, outrageous childhood nostalgia refuses to allow me to see how ridiculous this car chase is. It is outstanding and I love it, and I can't say anything more than that
No-jApartmentsZ Mcréez j mm x zzmj KX

Fr bruh same. I can't hate this film.
The ridiculousness is part of the enjoyment. This is the only time two gadget laden cars went head to head and it’s awesome.
@gameragodzilla I love the gadgets. The excessive puns is what killed Die Another Day for me though. Things like "How's that for a punchline?" or Jinx saying "I broke her heart".
5:40
Me: 007, you really know that the chandelier was made of diamonds?
James Bond: indeed. It matched with his sparkling personality.
I read that Bond comment in Brosnan's voice in my mind automatically! :D
007: "let me shine some light on the matter"
It always helps to accessorise
"Diamond smuggling is such a shady business."
"Lights out, Diamond Zits."
This movie reeks of early 2000s aesthetic
Those fake ice props are so cheesy!
The point of stating an early 2000s movie has early 2000s aesthetic is?
@@mortyp473 It's brutally 2000s, like an 80s movie with neon colors, synths, big hair and giant shoulderpads
Funny that
Early 2000s movies were the best tho
The car camouflage is still one of the coolest Bond gadgets
This movie will always have a special place in my heart.
Like, I always laugh at him fucking flipping the car using the ejector seat to dodge an incoming missile, only to then give a slight nod the audience saying: "Yes. I am _that_ cool."
This movie established the principle that Jaguars are the preferred car of Bond villians.
Becuz Porsches and Mercedes are hard to destroy
@@hybridAbsol *oef

@@VaiSakH112 wait its out?
I loved this car chase scene a lot as a child. As an adult, I find the car chase to be quite funny. Each car's gadgets and weaponry is unnecessarily high-tech, both being used to battle with each other without being excessive but yet is so absurd.
DAD was ahead of its time: this looks like Furious8, lol

That guy would lose his hearing so fast with the weapon's barrel mounted right behind him.

The question is how the hell didn’t Zhao didn’t end up having his head blown off by his own weapon?
After watching the Boring SPECTRE Rome car chase, watching this was actually a relief
That was the worst chase in franchise history. Terrible pacing.
@@jeffcharlton9660 What about the moon buggy chase from Diamonds are Forever? That one wasn't much better.
@@tylerriggs7989 That one was incredible and very funny and back in those days the movie watchers didn't need such fast pacing.
Ughh. That was a car SLOG lol. This one was ridiculous...but FUN
That wasn’t even a chase, it just looked like a car ad.
Interesting fact - The Stig (Ben Collins) did some of the stunt driving in this. ;)
Whoa, I never knew that.
I met Ben Collins at the Bond in Motion exhibition back in 2012. He was a top chap!
He also performed the world record flip of the DBS (broke my heart) in Casino Royale.
YEEEEAAAAAAHHHHHHHH😎😎😎😎😎😎😎🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

Another spectacular car chase on bond's movies and excellent driving skills. 007 forever!
Of all the car chases in the 007 franchise, this one is absolutely thrilling
I'll give credit to this movie, Bond's car vs Bad guys own gadget car.
Johnny tran's new motor from hector is off the scale.
1:37 Halle Berry's terrible eye-acting gave me a laugh.
Never noticed that before haha that was horrendous, and to believe she won an Oscar the year before
Oscar worthy acting effort is generally not required in a Bond film
@Meta Man my bad. Monsters Ball was made 2001, forgetting that its the following year Oscars are announced. ... Having said that, that's even worse lol
i dont see anything wrong?
At least Jinx made every effort to escape on her own instead of just waiting to drown.
Pierce Brosnan was the definition of a gentleman. The best James Bond.

Die Another Day is my guilty pleasure bond film, I was highly entertained despite its ridiculousness at times.
It's not a guilty pleasure, it is a very populair film and it's amazing, and 007 movies are ALWAYS ridiculous in many ways
@@Firemarioflower I just feel ashamed for liking it more than expected, I came in ready to hate it after hearing all the bad things at the time but I ended up being entertained from start to finished and surprisingly enjoyed Gustav Graves as the villain in the film.

I remember seeing this in the theater when I was in high school. It was enjoyable and it showed a side of Bond you didn't see often. Would've been nice if the clip wasn't cut short.
Notice how Bond deactivates the traction spikes, and the car stays on the wall until he accelerates 😂😂
I'm surprised he didn't keep the traction spikes enabled since he's mostly driving on ice.
Well the car was going down anyway
@@gregorymoore2877 Yes :D same thing with the chase on the living daylights. These cars wouldn't be drivable at all without spikes on ice.
I liked the catchiness of the score of the film when he drives and shoots the chandelier down killing Zao. I felt that added to the scene very well. And also added an awe yeah moment for the audience to see somethings about to happen it was great. My first Bond movie at the theatre. And i fell in love with movies in general after seeing this one
I honestly can't stop laughing. Its just the insane weapons each car has. My sides already hurt from seeing the gatling gun, I love it
That Vanquish is just the BUSINESS!
0:48 Zao must be deaf with that mini gun blasting full auto 2 feet away from his head. lol
Also, how did he (or the windscreen) not get shot by it?
This was one of the first movies that I watched on my first PC. MP4 format, good old times.
Whose idea was it to have an ice hotel? Imagine all the lawsuits you'd get from people slipping over
Ice hotels exist in real life too :)
Yes there is a real ice hotel that gets rebuilt every year after it melts during the summer. Cool!
I like how they kept the V12 sound in the movie for the Vanquish but on set the car was converted to V8 AWD
They had to make room for the retractable missiles.
Are you serious??? That's kinda crazy
@@Firemarioflower Yep. They installed a Ford Racing 8 Banger in the Aston Martin and the Jaguar.
Funny thing they complained about the invisible Aston, but adaptive camouflage is a real thing. Bond films are escapist fun, and something that should not really be scrutinised.
This movie got/gets way too much hate. Yes it's over the top A LOT and feels more like a Roger Moore film, but it has some great moments like this.
Moore had some great Bond films, Live and let die, For your eyes only, The spy who loved me, The man with the golden gun and I also liked Octopussy.
@@seanstoutgamer Didn't insinuate Roger Moore's films were bad, just Die Another Day had a more camp tone similar to his films.
Still better, more watchable and more enjoyable than Quantum of solace and Spectre
Probably the best description of the movie. Definitely has some Roger Moore vibes, but I also like the seriousness of Bond being locked away and tortured for years, getting out and seeking who is responsible.
@@thea-holegamerandfriends6754 The beginning of this movie was excellent. Once the movie gets into it though it gets too ridiculous for me. I prefer Moore's films even if they are very campy in nature (View to Kill was towards the bottom with this one though).
Best car chase in 007 movie
5:11 Technically, this use of cloaking technology violates the treaty of Algeron.
Only if the Romulans find out 😉
This is way way way before any treaty was signed lol
Die Another Day was not the perfect Bond movie (far from it)
But this is among the best car chases in the franchise!
@Phobos yesss!! And that voice box was hilarious too
just love the signature score right from the beginning and all the tech gadgets...as for' Bund' that keeps changing:)
This is the best scene ever
Before Fast and Furious did it, Bond did it ;)
Screw the BMW's, Aston Martin are the don of Bond cars!
I really don't understand the hate for this film!!
Neither do I! So what if it is over the top that doesn't remove the fact that the action is fun asf to watch!
I remember when the Vanquish flipped back over, everyone in the the theater was laughing and applauding.
Ridiculous and glorious. Some really bad ass shots in there
I have watched all Bond films l liked watching them specially the action part👍
I heard a rumor from someone that was on set. He set the stunt driver was having a very hard time to lose control of the car on the ice. He said the Aston’s handling was too good

The opening hover craft scene, fencing fight scene and ice palace car chase scene are so well choreographed crazy and lot of fun and also the adrenaline rush with fast paced music. Very enjoyable.
