Extreme/big reactors cannot “meltdown” they dont over heat easily, and burn up fuel then stop.

FYI - with Big reactors/extreme reactors or w/e you wanna call it, its actually more energy to put the rods next to each other with no gaps instead of the star pattern that you are using in this one. So, it would be a plus sign instead and you put the graphite on the 4 corners.

I'm kind of happy that dire changed a little bit of the progression sequence that he usually does in the series, although I would still be happy just because its dire video
Only dire would dig a huge basement for his base and then put the reactor so far in the corner that he needs to then dig out the wall to fit the controls for it in
I always preferred setting the insertion to the fill % of the buffer. The more it fills, the slower it goes, the more it needs, the more it ramps up.
Time for computer craft to control the reactor like good old times.
This comment took me back to times when the big project in modded minecraft was to make big IC2 Reactor with Computer Craft control system.

I like the fact he made the reactor this early. Maybe he will not run into power problems till episode 18. Who am I kidding this is Direwolf not only will he run into power problems before episode 18 inventory will be an issue long before all that! (I do like how his brain works!) (total mess but wonderful to watch)
I very much enjoyed seeing Extreme reactors early game. The logic to turn it on and off was very well done. You made that part look easy. :)
Give it a couple years, maybe let’s play 14, and he’ll be making a nuclear reactor on episode 2.
I miss the Industrial Foregoing Petrified Fuel Generator as an early game power source. It burned fuel at the same rate but generated more RF for items that had longer burn times. A piece of coal would burn for about 30 seconds and generate 80 RF/tick but a block of coal would burn for about 30 seconds and generate 800 RF/tick. I believe it also generated either sludge or essence that could be used for other stuff as well. Unfortunately, the last several versions of the mod has removed it and added the generators from what I think was called the Rainbow Generator mod.
Love the different approach this season! Would enjoy seeing some cool computercraft programs this season too :)

Yeah, I know I'm watching these *really* late, but I'm here with the math. While full (of fuel+waste), with the moderators, Dire's reactor is burning ~0.036 mB/t. An ingot of Yellorium is 1,000 mB, so one ingot powers the reactor for ~27,700 ticks. At ~1.3 kFE/t, that means that one ingot of Yellorium is producing ~36 MFE over about 23 minutes. Not bad!
You could use computer craft to automate the reactor in a slightly more compact way
I'd also love to see you stream the reactor values to a display unit somewhere within your base
This redstone setup was as always so easy to follow for us who arent redstone literate. Thanks Dire, many years many modpacks and its still fresh still doing things a bit differently here and there. Keeping it fresh!
Well, the reactor at 6th episode is different, so I guess that's a nix to a magic start lol.
Assuming a single yellorium is 144mb, a single ingot produces approximately 5.2 MRF.
(144 / 0.036 * 1300 = 5.0 M)

I did something similar to this a LONG time ago, causing I was having a tough time finding endermen to get pearls for a tank. It’s pretty fun but you’ll find yourself needing to upgrade it pretty soon after, probably by episode 10 or 11 you’ll be upgrading it again.
Dire, maybe consider new upgrade for laser miner: vein miner - will dig entire vein of ore based on vein range upgrade :)
I think he looks more at the issues tab in the github rather than here. Maybe take a swing at suggesting it over there? Kinda an all-in-one-place kind of deal

I think the powered latch from Create would provide the same functionality as Dire is using the RFTools logic gate for, if anyone wants a simpler solution.
It’s also called an R/S latch in vanilla redstone

currently, the reactor is only heating up for ~60% of 720k internal reactor storage, so around 430k of energy generation. Wouldn't it be better to to track the energy level of the energy cell with 6 million RF till it drops down to like 10% so the reactor would turn on for a few million RF?

Oh man! I’m going to have to be using that RFtools comparator type thing for sure! It will finally get rid of the headache of having to set up complex circuits just to get what I want out of redstone!

i would probably have done powah energy storage cause you can get early cheap ender cells which has infinite range plus dimensional, just feed them batteries and then you can almost infinitely scale the battery to hold what you want
I can't keep up with this mod. It used to be big reactors, then extreme reactors, then bigger reactors, now we're back to extreme reactors apparently. Anyway great content as always Dire!
Simple: big reactors and bigger reactors was one mod author. Extreme is another author.

Dire if you want more rf per tick out of your reactor ive found that putting the fuel rods in a t form with the corners having a solid block will produce more power
I really like the early reactor! I hope it's not going to be a pain to keep it supplied with yellorium, while you're still mining manually.
I like rushing the Gas Burning Generator from Mekanism, you can get one with relatively few resources if a few more diamonds than this thing. It's a bit more of a strain on power to set up, so you may need an extra couple of coal generators, but it's fun to automate and you get thousands of RF/t for free after and it lasts you a good long time.
I do the same thing normally... seting it up with 2 gas burning gens... but without botany pots, farming for carrots ( which I usually use ) it's slower, as I haven't delved into Industrial Foregoing nor farming with Ars yet... I really like this early reactor for once lol
Yeah, botany pots were what really overpowered this method. I had an early game base powered by a pot of dandelions, which was just silly, but fun. IIRC oxygen was produced as a byproduct which I used in the purification chamber (this was in the old days where ore multiplying machines were a necessity, instead of fortune enchants).
I just use the crop grower from TE, the phytogenic isolator or whatever it was called, make like two of those at max speed, and they keep up fine with couple of gas burning generators
I love the feral flare... but I wish you have a bit more control over it... my last playthrough had a moment where my dark room got fubar-ed by it..would love an item or something that'd allow me to "everywhere but here" (there's that frost pearl thing but that kills them all)
Iron seems to be harder to get in the current mod packs. This is my 3rd mod pack (1.18.2+) and in each one I build some form of iron farm just to get more iron easier. In this mod pack I am using Create to generate iron and going to expand for gold as well.
Definitely going to follow along and use the reactor for early power.

If you watch..... and listen closely....like really closely, you might just pick up on Dire being quite proud of the fact he has a nuclear reactor in only episode 6.......but of course he is not the kind of guy to mention it outright.

I try not to copy you directly but ive never done nuclear reactors before (in 12 years of playing) and this is hella cool
Dire. If you can produce by either Silk Touch or by Reconstruction... make you a Gobber 2 Ring called Ring of The Miner. Epic in removing Stone and leaving All ores alone. it has a 80 tick timer between use but dang amazing in Mining dimension. mining becomes much easier with a Insta 11x5x11 area go Poof of Stone.
extream reactors is a faveriot of mine just turn it on and it will run for days with very little fuel. Little expensive to get going but so worth it.
I did the math it's roughly 36.1 million rf per ingot
first time playing since they changed ore generation and it was hell trying to target farm material
MOSTLY automated Extreme Reactor in Episode 6. It's not fully automated because it still doesn't have Fuel, and Fuel Waste being added, or removed, automatically o3o

Hello, does anyone knows why it says "machine is to large it may be at most 5 blocks in the x dimension"
I tryed bigger reactor 5x5x3 core thats 7x7 with casings. Is there any limit in game so can go more tnan that ? I tryed google it and i cant find a limit. Anyone knows why is that?

Uranium deeper than yellowrite, yellowrite for extreme reactor, uranium is for mekanism fission reactor. Head down to deepslate level of mining.

Energy less then 75% = turn ON. Its not 100% efficient but less resources and work well too
Well it's 75% of the reactor's internal storage, so it would have already filled up the storage and all the power lines internal buffer. Plus once it's been running for more than a few seconds the internal heat will have been higher so the cool down will push it higher than just the 10% over *shrugs* You'd need some better logic and wiring to monitor the batteries to be more efficient.

I wonder if Dire noticed that on the UI it shows how much it was using which was only 0.036 mB/t, so you can guess how much it will use. (I'd have to see how much a single ingot is in mB) but that doesn't seem like a lot.
But bit of math... 0.036 x 20=0.72 (20 ticks in a second), 0.72 x 60 =43.2 (60 seconds in a minute) So 43.2mB a Minute. Just lacking how much a single bar converts into mB
if my school math isn't all gone than that should be a little over 36k rf/bar
Dont ingots usually give like 250mb of liquid after smelting?
@@400yearoldvampire9 If they are 250mb then they'd last almost 6 minutes each (5.78 minutes) and produce around 7,847,222 FE each (At least optimally)

Doing less efficient resource production in a skyblock simply because it's different, is not nearly as interesting as jumping straight into nuclear power simply because you can. :)

Seems to be a bug, or something wrong with your instructions. Reactor comes on on signal but does not turn off on no signal.

You sure mate? I have a g600, 8 month old, and I get the same thing with the cards, rarely, but still every now and then. I hate to see that my mouse is already dying, as I can't get these ones anymore..

Mekanism gas burning gen is easy to set up early and can be entirely self sufficient
I think mekanisim ethylene is much better and less more expensive thant the reactor.
Bottle of time or whatever he is using to speed things up seems OP. Why ever use any machine speed upgrades when you can just right click?

As you've seen, he ran out of time in a bottle near the end, it is not infinite. Plus time in a bottle is manual use, having to stay and use the device every time it runs out, whereas speed upgrades you don't have to babysit. So he will eventually get upgrades.

The map does not show them very well at all because a lot of the space where a fortress is located has ground surfaces above it which is drawn on the map obscuring them. They may also be rare as hell but the one I found is not indicated on the map at all.

Yes. It now only grows chance per tick, 20 seconds. It will grow all the way to build height over time though.
