Technically, Pumpkin Pie is actually a tart, along with Cheesecake. A cake is a breadlike food made from a dough or batter that is usually fried or baked in small flat shapes and is often unleavened. A pie is a baked dish which is usually made of a pastry dough casing that contains a filling of various sweet or savoury ingredients. And a tart is an open pastry case containing a filling. Pumpkin Pie/Cheesecake: no crusted top, so = tart. :)

well going by the literal definition yes, but most people consider cheesecake to be a type of cake. The fact that it has 'cake' in its name supporting the argument, and that if you were to go into most traditional cake shops, chances are you'll find a cheesecake among their variety of cake products. With that, I think its better off to consider it a type of cake than a type of pastry, since that's the general consensus anyways.

Omg that surprise ending 🤣🤣🤣 Also cheesecake is the superior desert, but it is not a cake. A cake is made with flour. And cake by itself without the frosting would be lack luster. Carrot cake is exceptional (like red velvet) because of the balance of sweet and tart from the cream cheese frosting.

They counted ice cream cake as cake but not apple pie with a scoop of ice cream as a pie. This is clearly favoritism bias.
Cheesecake is the best, but then it's like 20 different pies(not counting ice cream cake for this), then it's a type of cake. It's just too dry and sugary for me. I get 1 fairly good sizes slice, and I'm done. I can't eat anymore. The frosting has too much sugar, even with the best tasting options of the reduced sugary section, that it makes your teeth feel weird. I could slam an entire Southern Apple Pie with cinnamon, a drizzle of caramel, and a scoop of ice cream like it's nothing, then come back to hit the Pecan Pie.
I actually hate frosting, I prefer cake without frosting.
Hot take here, but I don't like pie, I've never liked it. However, some cakes, like store bought ones, I can't eat because they are too sweet. But homemade cakes are the best

Well everyone's got different tastes and food is always a good icebreaker, and it's a nice enough subject to discuss among friends.
Personally I just make myself a cheesecake within a lattice pie crust and *BOOM* best of both worlds, works really well with [peanut butter/chocolate] and topped with a scoop of ice cream (normally I just put either vanilla or butter pecan).

marks bird murder escapades are elevated beyond what was previously thought possible by the power of editing
Since Wade brought up the issue of dry tasting cakes, a way to fix that issue is to add pudding mix (obviously of the same flavor as your cake mix) to it when you are making the batter. Also, when you cut it put saran wrap over the exposed cake and it will keep it from drying out. Hope this helps your cakes stay moist.

I know I’m late to the party, but I needed to put this here. The Oxford University Press defines cheesecake as “a flan or tart filled with curd or cream cheese.” They concluded this mainly because not all cheesecakes need to be baked to be safe to eat.
