- Magician and comedian, Rick Merrill, holds the title of World Champion Close-Up Magic. Crowned in 2006 at the World Championships of Magic in Stockholm, Sweden he has since become a featured performer at the world famous Magic Castle in Hollywood and performed in person and on television in more than a dozen different countries. Rick had won the top prize at national conventions of the International Brotherhood of Magicians and the Society of American Magicians, the two largest and oldest magic organizations in North America. In addition to 1st Place, Rick brought home awards in Originality and Comedy. The biggest compliment, however, may have been the “People’s Choice” distinction awarded to him at both conventions.

Rick is amazing! He worked at my local magic shop and put me in the right direction when I was getting into magic. He blew my mind everytime I went in to the store. I joined the local IBM ring and was thrilled that he was a member. They called him “Mr Off the Wall”.
I saw the beginnings of this routine and inspired me to come up with a routine I call “the real magicians’ deathly hollows” using a rubber band (in place of a purse frame) a coin and a marker. I will never forget him rocking the walk around scene at the local Red Robin not long before his well earned win at FISM!
