I adore this cover & version ... I feel this was the first punk song. The Velvet Underground are so very underrated. I can remember listening to this song prior to 'the great punk scare of 77-78. I thought Lou & crew created a whole new genre of music. There influence was SO great that I have argued ... without no VU there would be no Bowie & no Stooges, etc. Without VU ... these artists would sound very, very different! 💀 Jim W. from Pennsylvania
I heard this version before I heard the original.....and I loved it. In fact, this version made me search for the original, which is awesome in it's own right. Thanks JD and VU!
Discovered JD in 1979, saw them on BBC´s Something Else. Through them I got aware of The Velvets, bought TVU&N and WL/WH. Then by pure chance in 1981I got to hear John Cale on the radio, and started buying his albums. Until 1983 JD were my absolute favourites, when JC released Music For A New Society which made even JD sound like lightweights. Got to see him live that year , and I knew I had discovered the real godfather of punk and alternative music.
Been a Velvets fan for 40 years; didn't know about this. JD was one of a handful of bands with the integrity and understanding to take on the VU's work. This is a good take but the problem is surely that in 1966-68 the Velvets were operating on another level entirely. To me, their first two albums are simply unassailably great. I'm not a musician, just a devoted follower, and over countless listenings I've never even begun to fathom out how the FUCK the unhinged genius of Sister Ray was created.
cool cover - I remember the first time I heard Sister Ray from the VU. I had heard VU songs before, like on the radio, but I was at my friend (now wife's place) and she had Sister Ray playing and it was like hearing VU for the first time. I was blown away.
lol i can now rest easy after having heard ian say “ding dong” lmao
I love the way people who've watched a few documentaries and read a few biogs on bands and artists, then bang on like they knew them personally

It pains me to never here what that cover of ''Louie, Louie'' sounds like
What a song! What a song! What a song!
A great velvet underground cover!
Love him!
Both my favourite bands of all time...

RIP Lou.
Say hello to Ian.
Dear Joy Division cover of Sister Ray, thank you for existing.
"Sister Ray", the only appropriate place for the term "ding-dong"

Ian Curtis will live forever!

First time I heard this, I was shocked to hear someone cover LR's Sister Ray so it took a LOT of listenings to hear Ian...now I love both...
Notice at the end Ian seems to be singing "Had a good life" instead of the Velvet Underground line "Had a good night". Pretty spooky.
R.I.P. Ian Curtis.... great cover dude. Whereever you are, we love you :)
Love to hear their version of Louie Louie.
I had a very bad acid trip along time ago, I had this song on repeat and was desperately trying to hold on to reality but to no avail :D
