Tatum's (Rose McGowan) desperate attempt to escape the Ghostface Killer is met with crushing consequences.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Scream is at once a slasher film and a tongue-in-cheek position paper on the "dead teenagers" movies of the late 1970s/early 1980s that plays as half-parody, half-tribute. Sydney Prescott (Neve Campbell) is having a rough time lately: she's still getting over the brutal rape and murder of her mother a year ago, and now one of her friends (Drew Barrymore) has been killed by a lunatic who harassed her with terrifying phone calls, then stabbed her to death while wearing a Halloween costume. Soon Sydney is receiving similar phone calls, quizzing her on the arcane details of such films as Friday the 13th and Prom Night, and is attacked by the same cloaked maniac. With her father missing, she has hardly anyone on her side except her best friend Tatum (Rose McGowan) and Tatum's brother Dewey (David Arquette), a half-bright cop. As for the murderer, it could be any number of people: Syd's father; her cute but overly intense boyfriend Billy (Skeet Ullrich); Tatum's goofball boyfriend Stuart (Matthew Lillard); or Randy (Jamie Kennedy), who works at the local video store and seems to like horror movies just a little too much. Much like Halloween, Scream spawned a series of sequels and inspired a large number of similar films -- its original working title, Scary Movie, became the title of the 2000 parody film by Damon Wayans.

@thereal finalgirl Not true. They both went to their girlfriends houses that night after the murder. Even if that kill was Billy, Stu was 100% there. Tatum didn’t know exactly when the murder took place so she’s siding with Stu’s Alibi because it’s her boyfriend and she was trying to stick up for him. And because he was in fact at her house that night, just after the fact.

Fun fact: According to Rose McGowan, she was slim and small enough that she could easily go to the pet door without problem. They needed to nail her shirt to the door for her to not fall for the scene.

Well it's a good thing they nailed their shirt otherwise we would have had an actor or should I say actress died on the scene just like Bruce Lee son who was shot with a real bullet instead of a blank, and they use a stunt double to play him, and it was tragic.

One of the most iconic scenes in horror! We do not talk about it enough! Tatum as a character was much more than the “best friend”, she was actually a pretty loyal person, she cared for Sid, she fought back again Ghostface and her death as ridiculous as it was is so timeless 👏🏼 I’ll never get over it and Rose was so perfect in the role

This is by far the most savage victim I have seen in the movie, she had the strength and bravery to face him (even if she didn't want to) she used the environment to her own advantage, she could have finished him of by steping on his throat

I like the balance in this scene, the comedy of a clumsy killer and a misunderstanding mixed with the horror of a slow death
People said that was stu the one that killed Tatum but if you hear closely when the killer groins, you can hear Billy's voice, also in the next scene when everyone is leaving, Billy suddenly appears raising an eyebrow, wes was a genius for thinking all the details

This had to be Billy. Stu sent her to the garage knowing Billy was waiting. Stu closed the door and let Billy do the rest. I mean, there's no way Stu could have beaten Tatum to the garage. Also, Billy gives Stu a look of "the deed is done" when he shows up again later.

i have a fascination w girls in horror movies who are almost the final girl but don’t quite make it (sarah michelle cellar in IKWYDLS, pj soles in halloween, etc.) and tatum is my hands down favorite. she’s so badass while being such a good friend to sidney, you have to love her despite her fatal doggy door decision

I know it's just a movie, but I remember watching Mythbusters about the garage door proving that it can't really kill someone this way cause the door wouldn't actually be able to go up with that kind of pressure holding it down

Scream 1 is the best scream movie and the best horror movie and Billy with Stu are the best duo ghostface killers
Here's what happened: Both Billy and Stu went to Casey's house to tie up Steve. One spoke on the phone and the other one tied up Steve. At Sidney's house Billy broke into the house. After he gets arrested, he realized, "Crap! Everyone thinks I killed Casey and Steve and tried to kill Sidney. I better come up with a back up plan." Stu calls Sidney at Tatum's house. The full intentions of that phone call was to make Sidney believe it wasn't Billy. Later, Stu and the rest of the students left the school and Billy is the one that killed Principle Himbrey. Billy stalks Sidney and Tatum for the rest of the day. At the party, Stu was in the living room the whole time. Billy puts on the costume and sneaks into the garage and kills Tatum. And I know this because after Tatum's death Billy randomly shows up. When Stu said that he'll be "right back", during the after party, he put on the costume and went up to the bedroom after Sidney and Billy made up. Stu "kills" Billy and the rest is history.
Billy did kill Casey. Stu killed Steve. Billy made the calls so he's giuilty of that.
+DVJFan Each of the killers had their own methods of killing people in this movie. Billy killed by stabbing his victims multiple times while stu only stabbed his victims once. Stu also held the knife with both hands and billy only held it with one hand. Casey was killed by being stabbed multiple times and the killer held the knife with one hand. Billy killed Casey and stu killed Steve.

Tatums actress was the one who came up with the idea because the creators wanted a creative death but they couldn't think of anything so she said she could fit in the door and act stuck but ironically she kept slipping thru so they stapled her shirt to the door
FACT: Tatum was actually supposed to be a final girl with Sidney and gale according to Wes. But her actor was working on another movie at the time so they had to kill her off

On a personal level: Saddest Scream death for me. Next to Randy. Solely because Tatum was just cool and sassy. (And Randy was one of my faves in the franchise.)
Tatum pretty much had no chance of escape. Even if she did manage to open the garage door right after Billy flipped over her, he still could've grabbed her leg and tripped her or something. And it seemed like Billy (or possibly Stu from inside the house) locked the main door so she couldn't leave, so again, imo she had no chance. But kudos to her for at least being able to fight back a little. One of the only few victims that was able to.
