    As an aside, note that Great House Telvanni also has a lot of people who can help you make spells. And as for spell effects, especially when it comes to Conjuration summons, members of House Telvanni usually sell the strongest spell effects. That said, there are four very useful spells you may want to go out and find that Telvanni doesn't sell. The Tribunal Temple folks in Balmora, in the basement of the Temple, can teach you Almsivi Intervention, Mark, and Recall. There is an NPC in the Ebonheart Imperial Cult who offers Divine Intervention. These spells let you teleport around the map, which is really handy. Almsivi Intervention takes you to the regional Temple, and Divine Intervention takes you to the nearest Imperial Cult shrine. Having both sometimes leads to daisy chains to where you can Almsivi Intervention to one Temple, Divine Intervention to a shrine, and then Almsivi Intervention to another Temple. Mark and Recall are a bit more complicated, but still pretty simple. Mark simply places a "mark" at your current location, and Recall teleports you to that mark. This is handy in a number of ways. You could, for example, Mark the location of your quest giver to Recall to that spot later. Once you advance to very high ranks in the Great House of your choice, you will eventually have a player home built for you, and you can Mark that player home so you can quickly return there and unload excess stuff you can't or aren't going to sell, and gear up for your next adventure.
    Lastly, if you miss Fast Travel that bad, you can make a Jump effect with an absurd magnitude for 1 second, as well as a Slowfall 1 pt for 20 seconds spell (NOT ON THE SAME SPELL). By absurd magnitude, I'm talking 200 magnitude or above (can't remember if that's above the vanilla maximum magnitude or not. If it is, plenty of mods increase the limit). This requires a fair amount of work put into your Alteration skill to use consistently, but this basically replicates the effect of the Scroll of Icarian Flight, allowing you to jump a quarter of the way across Vvardenfell in seconds. You do need to cast Slowfall before you land though, or you will die from fall damage. This is an extremely fun way to get around the map. You feel like a character straight from DBZ.

    I am really enjoying this series, as well as your channel. You're straightforward, analytical, and outright. You take the time to add timestamps for convenience. You're enthusiastic and passionate about what you're teaching/explaining. You give detailed formulae for the most simple things. And all this, for a game that came out approx 15 years ago. I can see potential in your channel, and look forward to see what you go on to do.
    If I were to add one bit of criticism, it would be to avoid moving as much while recording. Though not very noticeable, you can occasionally hear your voice become echoey/sharper, as you become closer and further away from your microphone. It's something small, but I feel like everyone has the one little thing to improve on.
    Like I said, I thoroughly enjoy your channel, and look forward to see what you go on to do.

      Thank you so much for the kind words! I definitely agree on the audio occasionally sounding slightly inconsistent. In this video specifically, at around 7:00 in the original recording I slipped up and said "every spell in our spell's skill" rather than "every level". Didn't notice this until I'd already recorded the entirety of the audio, so I went back and re-did that line a few times. Still couldn't quite get it to seamlessly fit back into everything else, even with a little audio processing. I've got a couple ideas now on how to maybe fix issues like that, but I'm also hoping that some time in the future I'll be able to pick up a top tier microphone that will just handle all/most of that for me. Lol, that's how microphones work, right?
      Hahaha, sorry, I got a little carried away with details there. I'm always appreciative of criticism, corrections, etc in the form of comments that give me something specific to slowly work towards.

    It's usually a good idea to pick a duration of 2 seconds for quick healing spells and short-duration damage spells instead of 1. Pick half the damage with twice the duration, you end up with a more efficient spell and can still spam it without losing effectivity.
    Besides, now I've watched all mechanics videos you released (and put into the mechanics playlist) by now. I really like your presentation style and I hope I could give you a little bit back for your time and effort put into your vids by sending those small comments with maybe useful additional information. There are some Penny Dreadfuls (one mana point to cast spells) that are surprisingly useful and can be cast with low skill levels. They only cost 13 gold to have made as well.
    -Restore Fatigue 19-20 for one second. Cast this as you're running around and you're always ready for a fight and level Restoration at the same time.
    -Restore Strength (or other stat) 19-20 for one second. If your strength is damaged by a Greater Bonewalker 2-3 casts of this will get you back to full strength.
    -Levitate 1-1 magnitude for 11 seconds. It will get you to that just out of reach ledge or over the top of a mountain to save a long detour. It also wears off quickly so you aren't stuck in levitate and unable to sneak or rest to restore mana.
    -Water Walking for 11 seconds.
    -Water Breathing for 11 seconds. It actually lasts longer as it resets your breath to full.
    -Summon Bound Weapon for 18 seconds. So long as you have a decent skill level for the weapon not many fights will last longer that 18 seconds. (The enchanted item version of this is even better as it just needs an item that has a capacity of two but will summon for 29 seconds for one enchantment cost, which will regenerate before the spell wears off.)

The price of spells still remains the same and can become extremely expensive the higher the magnitude. You may be able to increase your personality through alchemy and reduce the cost but i havent tried that.

Maybe soul level is technically classified as a hidden attribute? This is just conjecture - I really have no clue, haha

    Can you explain the "area" modifier, is not clear how it work on target and touch spells

    • @DebatingWombat
      @DebatingWombat Před 3 lety

      A bit late here, but if you mean simply the cost, then adding area effects makes an on touch/ranged spell more costly in both gold when created and magicka when cast, as well as being more difficult to cast.
      As Lyle mentioned when discussing setting any value in general to 0, not adding any area effect, will still calculate hold/magicka cost and difficulty as if it was set to 1 (as in 1 foot), similar to the formula for “on self” spells (which can’t have area effects).
      Experiment with it to see the concrete magnitudes in the game itself for specific examples.
      I strongly recommend that you add area effects to any on target open spell, simply because it can otherwise be very tricky to hit exactly the right spot on a locked container. To keep costs down, consider adding a varied magnitude.
      Open and telekinesis spells can be useful for “clumsy thieves” (i.e. those without good sneak and/or chameleon), since you can steal when blocked from view by pillars, furniture, or other features of the environment, without having anything invested in stealth or security.
      Such “remote thieving” also means that you will be at a safe distance from the harmful effects from traps on chests/doors, and so don’t have to worry about setting them off or disarming them.
      A good example is that you can easily get the Sword of White Woe from a guard tower in Balmora using telekinesis from behind a pillar, giving you a useful, early game ebony broadsword which drains opponents’ health.

      You can get a rough idea of your cast chance by looking at the orange-red bar under its icon in the UI when you have a spell equipped. There's several factors for determining cast chance, but probably the most important is the spell's school. One skill level in the corresponding school gets you +1% cast chance.

    I always found it odd from Daggerfall to Morrowind that you need to find a special person to make a spell, but the spell you make is effected by *your* stats. The spell maker clearly doesn't make the spell, so why must you go to them?

    • @LyleShnub
      @LyleShnub  Před 4 lety +3

      My personal explanation is that the spell maker uses those stats as a measure of your own ability to safely harness magic. They want to make sure you're able to come back for more business.

    Most efficient damage spell?

    • @spatrk6634
      @spatrk6634 Před 9 měsíci +1

      shock, because least npc's have resistance to it.
      fire is worst because majority of npc's are dunmer which have resistance to fire.
      but again, you might see a nord that has shock resistance but does not have fire.
      hence most efficient damage spell would be combination of all elements.

Turns out I made it so people couldn't reply to my posts at one point, but I can't figure out how to change it back again, and I'm not sure if it's my own incompetence, or Google+ just being bad. The new settings does seem a lot harder to find what you're looking for, so it might not be just me being dumb.

    • @LyleShnub
      @LyleShnub  Před 7 lety +1

      I can promise to make a good effort to exclude such language from all of my videos that I create a script for, like my guide videos. Haha, it wasn't too long ago that I made extra effort to use "anyway" instead of "anyways" on these scripted videos and I think that this deserves at least as much effort. That said, I cannot guarantee that I won't occasionally slip up. For what it's worth, I don't believe that I actually use such language in this specific video.
      However, when it comes to my playthrough videos I cannot keep that promise. While I agree that quite a few terms covered in your linked article are tasteless and I never use them, others are very deeply ingrained on me. I'm not sure if I'm capable of refraining from calling things crazy, whack, insane, nuts, and so on when speaking candidly. To that end, if you, or anyone, decide to not watch my stuff for that reason, I totally understand and I do apologize. I respect that decision in the same way that I would if someone didn't like my using blasphemy, innuendo, or even plain old cursing. Such is the way that folks are and I don't blame them at all for it.

    • @dontspikemydrink9382

      you said insane tho. And glad that you are willing to make the effort, I will too. Great vid as always. Hope you can become big one day, just for the sake of reaching more people that love Morrowind. Would you be interested in making a video about your biggest problems and most fond memories of this game? I for instance dont like the npcs one bit. I walk into the council club in balmora, I talk to the people there, they say their usual stuff that they hate foreigners, then the bartender says, without a hint of sarcasm 'tell your friends about your place' -.-

    • @LyleShnub
      @LyleShnub  Před 7 lety +1

      Oh wow, did I really? Haha, I'm sorry. I even ctrl+f'd through the script to double check. I guess I must have ad-libbed it in there.
      Anyway, almost two months ago I made like a 20 minute video reminiscing on Morrowind in honor of its 15 year anniversary. I have actually been rolling around the idea of doing a couple videos or so that are more critical on the game. It's fascinating to see how Morrowind's world is designed relative more recent Bethesda games like Skyrim or Fallout 4. It's cool to see how they evolved their design even though their work teams have changed and how they had to work around tech limitations with Morrowind.

      You have just blown my mind. Its a sorry existence to live one's life that way, insane, crazy to expect others to obsess over and ban particular words in their vocabulary lest it offend a mongoloid somewhere.
      Now... that was an example of whereby the word served your rhetoric of ableism, most words however, do not fall into a state of provocation when used in everyday life. Singular words often mean different things and are more often weighted by the words preceding or coming after it.
      Its all about context, tone, intention and CONTEXT.
      But ultimately, I think what you just said was daft. You see 'daft' as a micro-aggressive usage of casual ableism. The point is we have different views and we are entirely capable of regulating our language, but to single people out and actively attempt to change their language, their voice; is frankly oppressive.
