      @@PAADVENTURES1 Those Assynt Munros were fantastic, I headed up and set off in the dark to try and catch the sunrise on the hills, had an inversion on one side and clear on the other. Really nice hills. So many deer and emergency stops on the way up in the dark though, felt like one big herd from Ullapool all the way to Inchnadamph. I've still to do the far north too, planning to do Klibreck and Hope in one day, as they are both fairly quick and close together. Maybe drive up and camp the night before. Cheers, Andy.

    Fantastic is the perfect word to describe this one Paul. You've mentioned Ben Nevis a couple times, and you've got some majestic mountains out there, but that's got to be the most impressive so far, crowds aside. It's not even that it's the tallest, but also the shape of it, just intimidating looking, at least from the direction you ascended. You must have taken a path less travelled on the way up. I can't see any way you would have been able to crop out those crowds that were at the top on the way up. The Arete was incredible, and getting up over the clouds like that... I've only been up high enough to look down on clouds a couple of times, and I can't imagine it ever gets old. This was the perfect video to watch on the evening before we head up Mt. Ascutney. Another fantastic wee walk Paul, not sure how you'll top it, but you always seem to come out with one smashing walk after another. Looking forward to the next one!

      Thanks JR! Its a very busy mountain to visit however the CMD ascent route, whilst still busy is quiet compared to the hill path. Its also a lot more technical and difficult so it sees less traffic! The Ben looks best from this side and the north face looks awesome!
      When I was walking up, I had my fingers crossed for a wee inversion as all the signs had been there and I couldn't help getting a bit emotional as we walked out into the clouds!
      We are off for a wee Agnew holiday up north to the wilds of Cape Wrath and Assynt.........Leaving my son to mind the castle. So no videos for a few weeks probably..Looking forward to your next release and hope you have a great day up Mt Ascutney!

    My recent trip involved the CMD in similar conditions, maybe warmer, no inversion; heart lungs handled it all nae bother, but I discovered the difference between being “hill fit” and “boulder field fit.” I found all the very irregular stepping all along the arête followed by the final Boulder field was very punishing on my legs, in particular my hamstrings. This is something which no amount of reconnaissance seems able to prepare me for. The spare bottle of Lucozade Sport was vital once that wee crampy feeling came over me on the way down the zig zags. Your blog is exceptionally good at demonstrating what is encountered along the way. Well done!

    Do you think that's too much for a complete beginner?
    A few months ago, I did some hiking in Isle of Skye. After being out for about 9 hours, the following day my legs had muscle soreness and feet were tired. I'm 29 and probably of average fitness.

    • @PAADVENTURES1
      @PAADVENTURES1  Před 2 lety +1

      Wow! It Is difficult to say?..the ring of steall is a relatively big day...on average probably 8 to 9 hours,. The CMD arete is probably another 8 hours and the pap is shorter and quicker. It is totally doable but I would say it would be a tough few days! Factoring in weather and daylight hours as well and as a complete beginner I would be cautious! However you may blitz it! Stay safe!
