On October 7, 2000, Davo Karnicar made history with the first-ever ski descent from the summit of Mount Everest on the Nepalese side. In just 4 hours and 30 minutes, the Slovenian skier descended from the highest point on Earth and began his conquest of the Seven Summits through ski runs.
Davo Karnicar's passion for pushing limits began years earlier with his ski descent of the Annapurna in 1995 along with his brother Andrej. This triumphant achievement in the Himalayas had a bitter aftertaste as Andrej lost a pair of phalanges during the descent. Prior to his attempts in the Himalayas, Davo improved his skills in the Alps and conquered iconic peaks such as the Eiger and the east face of the Matterhorn, which presented him with unprecedented challenges.

Man, when you ski like that, you face the height of the mountain. I think Davo is the best mountaineer/skiier I have come across so far. He took all of his preparations seriously and didn't cut corners. This is the most amazing Moutn Everest story I have heard. He lived to tell the tale and experienced all the honors and recognitions.
Lookup Marco Safretti. Dude did it twice.. on a snowboard and he took way harder routes.
He did however die on the second attempt.
I don't know what's crazier: climbing up Mount freaking Everest, or skiing down it. This man had balls of steel.
I'd much rather ski down than climb. Actually base jump. Has anyone or could anyone do those rocket shoes/boards/packs?

I knew a guy who was one of the smartest and violent soldiers I’ve ever met. Died alone overdosing. All that power and skill brought down by something you’d never imagine gets someone like that. It’s sad stuff

I was waiting to hear the disaster and thought you were trolling for a sec. You got us on the 2nd half, not gonna lie. 😅But dang. He died at home during a tree accident instead of while skiing or climbing. I didn't to expect to hear that.

I absolutely love this video series thank you for doing these! I'm a really good skier but I don't do it all that much, nothing like these guys but I think when it comes to like Everest I know all these people have these strategies but when I watch that movie Everest there was this one dude named like Anatole, I have no idea if that's the spelling but he was the badass that was shaking people off who are on oxygen and even going back up to save other people's lives. That is what it takes to actually survive on some of these most dangerous mountain ranges in the world. I know that it might theoretically be smart to take a couple of the emergency jars of oxygen just in case but I truly don't think that people climbing on oxygen, to me that's not really true hiking or mountaineering. I mean you're basically putting on a suit, somewhat similar to someone in the jet where you're in like a pressurized suit where you breathe even though you're well above the type of places where humans can breathe easily 🫁 -- I've been up in Colorado and some of the higher mountain ranges and you can easily tell the difference you just can't understand it until you're in it. I think so many people see the ambition of being legendary or whatever or saying that they can do it, it's just two infectious and it's only for the people that are absolutely beast mode mountaineers. You can't just be some office guy and say oh yeah I'm going to pay you to carry most of my stuff and I'll do a little bit of acclimatization -- to me that is by far the most important thing and nothing else should be really thought about. I mean yes obviously beer and maybe a guide and all that stuff but that to me is almost like a given. But that is also the exact solution as to why you need to acclimatize first, HARDCORE. Those Sherpas are able to carry more gear and do more trips because they live up there their lungs get used to the amount of oxygen in the air. It's not that they are just super strong or anyting they are just simple regular dudes maybe a little stronger than most, and they live there so literally it's on like an oxygen blood level in your blood it has really nothing to do with how strong you are. Some people can do it better and some can't. You might be an amazing athlete but your body just does not acclimatize as quickly, as others. The crazy thing is the penalties are not just little stupid trivial matters. You're up at a height that is so dangerous people will not even bring you down even in a group because you've now put their life at risk kind of get your dumb ass down. And I get that some people have work their way up to Everest I'm obviously not talking about them they know what they are doing. And if they choose to use oxygen more power to them. But more and more you can hear it almost every Everest video they talk about how many newbs (new is IN the word it's not "NOOB" noob saibot was a mortal Kombat character) they have record numbers on Everest of these people that of course always want to leave on the same exact day and try to summit the same day. Even after the guy that had the last name Hall that they made in the movie I forget his first name, not Josh brolin but he did a fantastic job in the movie The acting was all really good even from the little wormy guy that was in perfect Storm with George Clooney he always plays the loser and everything they gave him a slightly better role but of course he gets up on the side of the mountain and pretty much kills one of the best mountaineers of all time. Because the guy did not have the heart to turn him around when he needed to and that is my point as well. If you are up risking your life and even other people's lives, no, you should not be absolutely one-hundred-percent dependent on oxygen. Now if you're on the level of a guide or you know what you're truly doing and you earned it then you go do whatever you want with or without oxygen it's not like me saying anything would matter anyway but I have nothing wrong with that. But my God, the bodies are starting to pile up I've heard. And I was watching one about K2 and they had to raise money to get a enough money to get a helicopter to try to save somebody. I get the rush of it all but you got to be prepared WAYYYY more than most of these people are. That mountain range has been around for like 3 million years or maybe three billion years I don't even really know for sure... We live like 30 or 40 years in health and then it starts to go down in about 60 70 and 80. That mountain is going to be around for like another billion years whether humanity is or isnt. Anyway I love these videos keep up the great work!

Damn...attempting to summit Everest from the North in 1996 of all years, skiing down Annapurna, Nanga Parbat, Mount Everest, and the other 6 highest peaks on the continents, only to die in a tree cutting accident back home.

I’ve skied since I could walk and would consider myself pretty skilled on and off trail, but fuck this shit. Nope. Never felt the urge to do more than that.
A guy snowboarded his way down Everest successfully too, then went back to do it again to try a different route and they never did find his body.
