Steelseries Arctis Nova 7 Wireless vs HyperX Cloud III Wireless

- Summary: Although these retail for similar prices, the Arctis Nova 7 offers significantly more bang for your buck than the Cloud III. While both headsets provide great-sounding audio, are comfortable to wear for long periods of time, have detachable/retractable mics, and come standard with USB-C, only the Arctis Nova 7 comes with Bluetooth integration, a built-in game/chat mixer, and a 3.5 mm port.
While I do think the audio quality and comfort of the Cloud III is slightly better than the Arctis Nova 7, they are not SO much better to warrant my recommendation. The Arctis Nova 7 does a lot, and it does all of it very well. I have never been so impressed with a wireless headset. My only “complaints” would be the suspension-style headband and the relatively small earcups, but neither of those have been a serious deterrent in the 8+ months I’ve owned them.
The Cloud III’s feel like a side-grade, or a minor refresh, than a true successor to the legendary Cloud II’s. I would imagine most PC gamers have seen, held, or owned a pair of Cloud II’s at some point, so I was definitely expecting a lot more out of the III’s. They aren’t bad by any means, but I was hoping for an iPhone 8 to X jump vs a 12 to 13 “hop.”
Both headsets come with decent software and have built-in mic monitoring, which is a must for me on closed back and wireless headphones. HyperX NGenuity is a lot more barebones, but that’s not a bad thing in my book. Steelseries GG and Sonar will have a bit of a learning curve, but is still very intuitive and easy to figure out if you want to set up that game/chat mixer for my Discord users.
The microphones are functional, and the quality sucks, but every wireless gaming headsets’ microphone sucks, especially when you compare it side by side with a PC38x or Game One.

Is the cloud 3 compatible with xbox?
Edit: it is NOT. My initial answer was wrong, as @shaiyahtimmons3122 points out below.
How is it compatible with Xbox when it doesn’t have an aux option or dongle access for Xbox?
It does have a dongle. USB A and/or USB C. Plug that into the console.
Hello again, I’m not sure if you’re aware but the usb dongle is only specific to PC and PlayStation. Microsoft does not allow usb audio on the Xbox unless it’s licensed specifically for Xbox
Now if the headset had a 3.5 aux then it would work but usb will not but the cloud 3 wireless does not have a 3.5 aux cable.

You’re 100% correct, I am wrong. My apologies. I’m so used to seeing consoles+PC listed on boxes and sure enough on the Cloud III box it only says PC, PS5/PS4, and Switch. Editing my comment above.

Nova 7. Tried returning it so i can get a blackshark. But they did not allow my refund. Now im stuck using this trash. My $5 xiaomi piston performs better in valorant than this nova 7.
Nova 7 looks better on paper but in the end sound quality and comfort>all other fancy features. For me these are more important than anything else. And hyper x has better quality(both sound and mic),more comfortable and better battery life. Those all other features nova 7 has is a nice bonus but it doesnt matter if the sound quality isnt as good. Also one thing no one mentions is that steelseries usb c dongle is so wide it blocks usb ports next to it which is super anoying and defeats the purpose of being usb c. Hyper x dongle is taller but doesnt block other ports next to it. I have case that has 2 usb A and 1 usb C port on the front and I like to use the dongle on the front port of the case for easy access since I sometimes might use it in nintnedo switch or other devices but with nova 7 if I use it in front usb C it will block usb port next to it.

Are you sure that the cloud3 mic is correct installed? You need to select the highest bandwith
Yeah it sounds way better if you set it to 32000Hz in the windows settings. It sounds way better I tested with my brother via Discord.

Bought Nova Pro wireless, arriving tomorrow! Now I do own Hyper X Cloud II wired version.
I also had Cloud 2's and bought Nova Pro Wireless but had to return them because they weren't comfortable and mic sounded very similar to cloud 2's which is kinda not good considering the price... My main drawback for Novas were especially the weird thingy inside the earcup that were just poking on my ear, so uncomfortable.
@@faltusdaniel5661 it’s ANC who is knocking into your head. I do not have this issue, I guess it depends on your head size and ear shape. If you order wicked cushions (which I did) they are wider and with new cushions this problem disappears for everyone.
The sound quality is better than Cloud II, mic is about the same. But I use this headset for work and CS2 so wireless is a must for me.
But if you have a small head I guess it’s uncomfortable. I have an average head and I use these at minimum settings, for my gf these are too big and uncomfortable.
@@UbbeWankenubbe Do they actually sound better than the cloud 2 wired cause I got what I heard is one of the best wireless headsets (Logitech pro x2) and just returned it today, it sounds so bad in CS footsteps and gun shot sounds are so mixed , I really want a wireless headset but that just put me off.
@@SpaceC4det1 I play only CS2 and these headphones are good for steps, but I use them for office work, music when walking my dog outside and CS2.
It’s better than cloud II, but not significantly.
The biggest plus is wireless as I can gear when the game starts and can walk around home in meantime.

Cloud comfort and style is the kind of comfort that simply works for everyone, still to this day cloud2s has been most comfortable headset ive used, ive tried steelseries banded headsets and cannot say the same.
If your ears get hot with the leathers cups, you can buy aftermarket cups for cloud heaphones, velour/leather oval or round and even ”angled” cups.
Im the type of guy that cares about a headset simply of what it does BUT bluetooth connection tough is something that i would want to my wireless headset but buying nova 7 bc of that instead of cloud3 is just not worth it.
Sound, mic, battery life and comfortness are much better on the hyperx cloud 3... nova has more adjustments and bluetooth... I have both of them.

Is the sound that much better on Cloud 3? I'm thinking about buying them and I've watched multiple reviews. A fair number of them seem to agree that Cloud 3 sound is at times worse than Cloud 2, which wasn't phenomenal in the first place either.
@@kolosmenus yes cloud 3 wireless is miles better then cloud 3 wired and ye the sound is close to harman curve so its the best for everything.

Please help. My headset just gave up. Do either of this going to work from different communication/calling platform? I work 8hrs a day and plays a lot of fps games. And I don't want to get a headset that I can't use on my work. Jabra evolve2 65 is my go to but budget is a problem.
And I want something I can use on my phone whenever I'm watching movies/anime.

Hey buddy. Yes, the Arctis Nova 7 is going to do exactly what you're describing here. You can be connected to your PC for gaming/work via the USB dongle, and your phone through Bluetooth at the same time. I never tried something like a Teams call from the PC while using my phone for videos - if anything it was the other way around where I would be gaming on my PC and take a cell call via Bluetooth.

I bought both but only kept the CLoud 3 bc the nova 7 had too tight fit from the band and the highs being too sharp

im looking to get my 1st premium headset and i watched some reviews of nova 7 and people didnt like the sound quality of it also the comfort and the build quality i wanna make sure like i dont really use bluetooth that much so no issue but i wanna know which one has best sound quality and comfort and build quality i wanna get the better one can u quickly answer because im gonna get one of them tomorrow thanks 🙏
If you don’t care about the Bluetooth functionality get the Cloud IIIs

steelseries still make crackling noises?? is it just in a few steelseries headsets? or is this problem to all headsets? cause this is why i am looking for a second opinion that is budget friendly but also very good as steelseries or better, please help
I think the crackling noise can be expected with most wireless headsets when there’s no game audio, and you’ve got other wireless devices nearby. However, none of the headsets I use or have tested have suffered from overly annoying crackling, most definitely not during gaming, and only if you’ve really got the volume high and are basically looking for it. If you don’t need the game chat mixer, or Bluetooth, just grab the Cloud IIIs.

Oh man somethings f*cked up then. I’ve had dozens of wired headsets and none of them crackle. Low quality cabling maybe, messed up 3.5 jack, etc.
@@MercuryTV it is also the provided cabling, they say it is mostly when usb c is used as cable, but when it is aux it is fine
I had the cheap hyper X headset that was like $60 I believe and I just bought the nova 7P and honestly the hyper X was more comfortable and honestly sounded better and my friends say I sounded better on the hypers and there’s a lot of feedback on the mic for the nova’s. Unfortunately I really wouldn’t recommend the steel series to anyone. I think I’m going to return them and get the hyper X.

Steel series are terrible. I typically use audiophile headphones but love the HYper X.

Yeah gotta disagree with the other commenter here. Out of the box they’re fine. I wouldn’t have used them past the initial hour or so if they had been “extremely bad” lol. HyperX do sound really good though.
on the steel series you have to make to many adjustments to get them close to the hyperx, so if you want to do that fine, if not stick to the hyperx. The connectivity on the steel series with bloototh is better. The hyperx have 4 to 5 times better battery, no need to adjust anything just plug and play and a way better microfone.
You have to use the GG software to turn off the volume limiter on the Nova 7 right away or they are too damn quiet
Idk if it would be a fair comparison to ask this, but would you, in your experience and opinion, recommend the PC38X over these two headsets?
So that’s tough because they are entirely different beasts. Open back wired vs closed back wireless. If you want really clean audio, with the best microphone on a gaming headset, PC38x will not disappoint. I’m happy to recommend it to everyone, but you have to be aware of what you’re getting with open back audio.
Would you say the directional audio on the PC38x is up to par with a lot of the more recent headsets?
I'm swapping from my old Astro A40s TR edition to a pair of PC38x, but my Astros were super inconsistent in terms of directional audio.
I have the last gen of both and the hyper X is WAY better. now I cant say anything about the new stuff but kingston has been around for way longer and I personal thing the build quality is better. steelseries is really over rated. I got one of there keyboards and im not impressed.

You can lower people's sounds when you speak, there is a setting for it but I don't think there is one that lowers peoples sounds when not speaking.

@@deathblossom1153 Definitely seems to be the consensus. I still stand by my remarks - that the feature set for a flagship headset like the Cloud III is lacking - but if you don't care about Bluetooth or a chat/game volume mixer, then it's a moot point.
Actually, to do what you say about muting Discord while playing, leads me to think that you use Discord on your mobile, that is psychotic. Removing that, you don't mention any useful functionality for cases other than yours in particular. Good video although too focused on "your" comfort.
Definitely Discord on PC. Cloud III has no way to control chat volume on the headset, Steelseries does. I don’t think that’s a niche function but rather a decent selling point for anyone who spends time gaming while in Discord with friends.
