The titles are only confusing from the outside looking in. When you play the games, it makes way more sense and you go "aaahhhkay...."

I will admit I didn’t get BBS until this video. The collections adding together doesn’t seem quite right. 1 + 1.1 (rechain)+ 1.2 (358/2 days)= 3.3 It’s like the Lion King 1 1/2, it takes place between 1 and 2. 2.8 is after 2.5, but before 3. It includes stories from before, but they are meant to be seen a this point in the series, right before 3. Also, I think 1, 2, and 3 are called that because they are on the most advanced hardware being the best and most complete the series could be at the time.

Right. Expanding the title into a full statement would read as “358 Days over 2 People”
How is anyone going to know that without people like Nomura confirming it?
If you image search "Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days Japanese logo", you'll see Japanese text below the logo: スリー ファイブ エイト デイズ オーバー ツー, Surī Faibu Eito Deizu Ōbā Tsū("Three Five Eight Days Over Two"). So really, it was there from the start.
@@gamestation2690They actually literally say it like that in the TV commercial for it, and its very clearly "358 Days" at least cuz why would you day "Two Days"?
@@Spindash54 Even though there were three people, so that makes no sense whatsoever. Anyway, the title is likely a distraction so people won't notice that Xion is basically a parallel to Cosmo from Sonic X. And of course any time the letter 'X' shows up, they call it 'key/chi'.
There are two meanings for chain of memories
1: it refers to how the false memories are used to trap and manipulate Sora in a chain of memories
2: it refers to the structure of memories that make up who someone is. Namine needs to disconnect Sora's chain of memories to connect them back together correctly.
As much as I love the title "358/2 Days" (and it was my first KH game, so I was even more intrigued by it in a good way), not gonna lie, it should've been called something like "Kingdom Hearts: Days Of Sunset".
That way, the acronym would've literally been "KH:DS", as in, _Kingdom Hearts for DS._
Sorta similar to what they did with Dream Drop Distance on the 3DS (it's three "D"s)

According to SE, it’s actually “Three Five Eight Days Over 2” which logically makes perfect sense. Cuz the game certainly doesn’t take place over 2 days
I remember seeing a comment on Caddicarus' Kingdom Hearts 3 video who thought "Kingdom Hearts 2.9" appearing on screen was meant to be a joke. It's just funny to me since that's not the case at all, the naming system really _is_ that ridiculous
I think "Distance" in 3D was more referring to the flowmotion mechanic. I vaguely remember a commercial about KH3D showing the "Drop" being them "dropping" into the worlds and "distance" showing flowmotion.
I'd really like a video on the still unresolved plot threads. Not necessarily stuff that we think will happen in KH4, but things we still have no definite answer to. Like who the girl was that Lea and Ira found. Why Stretletzia is alive. Who is the girl in white hooded coat. Mostly because I personally forgot if they ever wrapped these things up
Its heavily implied that the girl they found is Skuld as shes the only union leader left unaccounted for, its also implied that Strelitzia is the girl in the white coat as mentioned by Elrena's Chirithy and hinted at by Lauriam's dream where he sees a figure in a white coat that he calls his sister. Considering how she died before the transfer to the datascape ever happened it could explain why her heart was in such bad shape that it brought her to Shibuya instead of somewhere normal. Of course what she built her body around and who there knows about her is a different story. But as these are just theories it would be very nice to hear a concrete answer.

Melody of Memory and Master of Masters both have the same abbreviation: MoM
maybe I'm imagining things, but as the game after KH3, this could signify the transition from the Xehanort saga into the Lost Masters arc by referencing MoM himself

I loved the old titles and how poetic they were, it was a big part of the charm of the series. But the last 2, Dark Road and Missing-Link, have felt so much more tame by comparison. Hope we get some stranger names again later down the track.

Kingdom Hearts 2 is called Kingdom Hearts 2 because it's the second (mainline) game in the series.

Floating point error that kept KH3 from being released
Its just KH3 continuing from where 0.2 BBS's final cutscene left off from what I understood. Its like the very last thing to get through before finally "truly" starting KH3. I feel like Nomura was either just being coy or wanted to just piss us off with that one😂 definitely one of my least favorite things this series has done but its so dumb almost to the point of being self aware that i can't help but like it.
An interesting detail in the KH3 logo -
There's a conspicuous dark patch on the top of the third "I" in the Roman numerals behind the title. There have been a few theories as to what this means, some suggesting that it's foreshadowing Sora's disappearance at the end. It could also be a reference to the 2.9 segment of the game, given that roughly 90% of the numerals are filled in.

"Distance" in KH3D I also like to think is because of the distance between Sora and Riku. May be separated, but also close to each other. That's just my take and view after playing the game, and it's my favorite KH in the series.

As a musician I could say Nomura is a genius for using the Coda symbol in Remind. It really feels like it's meaning, because you return to a specific part of the piece and go all the way to end. Just like Sora traveled back time and experienced the end of the game in a different way.
Nomura is truly mad man.
The Distance in “Dream Drop Distance” can also mean that Sora and Riku are very apart from evahother as was explained by Joshua how both are separated by worlds (like different dimension) despite visiting the same world.

2:13 fun fact, the confirmed way to say the title is 358 days/2. the reason that’s the correct pronunciation is due to 358 representing days in a year and the 2 represents the storying focusing on roxas and xion character, hence 358 days in the organization over the lives of two individuals = 358 days/ 2 characters. don’t know why they put days after 2 in the title (probably a design choice as it probably looks better this way) but yea 2 comes after days

Fun fact: Kingdom hearts translates to akashic records in gematria. If you’re into spirituality you’ll already know. Otherwise a quick google search will do.
I just assumed the 2 in 358/2 was just half a day. So 358 and a half days. Just made some sort of sense since I couldn't figure out what it actually meant

Well, knowing what I know about the KH series now, the title '358/2 Days' was definitely made to be a distraction, so people didn't realize that Xion was basically a parallel to Cosmo from Sonic X and forced Roxas to take her out. And if you still don't believe me, just look at how often the letter 'X' shows up, or the fact that you build your own ships and travel through space in the mainline titles, or the fact that Roxas has blonde hair and blue eyes and wields two Keyblades, kind of like how a certain fox has two tails.
Then there's the fact that Sora and Chris Thorndyke get their hair done at the same salon. Riku is more broody, like a certain red and black Hedgehog we know. And of course Riku attacked Roxas in 358/2 Days, just like how Shadow and Tails fought in Sonic X. I'm sure the series is going to even have its own version of the Metarex at some point too.

You forgot 2.9 my dude its the tutorial part of kh3 which i think counts because you finish the hercs world you are greeted with the kh3 title and i believe namora put that on purpose not a joke.
Also the 3 in Kingdom Hearts 3D Dream Drop Distance is meant to signify that it's the prologue to Kingdom Hearts 3
I love birth by sleep so much! One of my favourite games in the series! It just did something compared to the rest of the games, gameplay and story wise and it truly worked! The series hasn’t seen anything else like it since then.
Hmm... I always thought that DDD is a reference to the distance between Riku and Sora, as they have been separated both in terms of story and gameplay.

7:32 I also noticed the diamond in the X mark symbol. Has a little reference to when nomura was working with his brother Takashi Nomura the creator of Xenoblade and the other project s in monolith soft studio that nomura was working on such xenogears one of nomuras old games before switching to final fantasy games and kingdom hearts. But also I realize that the x blades real name before nomura called it X name is referring to key or kye or kai the x blades using the name Xenoblade. But takashi nomura owns the name xenoblade so that why reason tetsuya nomura decided to change the name of X blade name to just Key or chi or kai to avoid the a name X being used for the wrong reason.

I am a big fan of kingdom hearts. I have been playing since 2002 my mom bought me a playstation 2 and kingdom hearts the original one. I was 9 years old and now I'm about to be 31 it's been a long journey this game was my childhood, teen years and adult years. And I've been subscribed on youtube to you cynical. It's awesome to know there is a fan base like me that loves kh and are adults.
My favorite thing about Kingdom Hearts is when people call the non-numbered titles spin-offs, then say the story is confusing
I mean it's a reasonable expectation that handheld titles wouldn’t be that crucial to the canon. Unlike those of us who are insane, most folks didn't think they had to buy multiple consoles
Somehow, Nomura always find a way to make EVERY kingdom hearts games existed is canon and related. Heck, who would have thought that a mobile 2D game will have one of the most important story throughout the entire IP?

I've played all the main games except the Union / Key series and Melodies of Memories.
I have watched Back Cover cinematic though. Do the side games of it provide anything interesting in the overall story?
I also hadn't played Melodies of Memories but I've had it spoilt what the machine was in Hallow Bastion's World Terminus on Kingdom Hearts 1 was.
Chi, Unchained X, and Union X (Cross) mostly offer context to the events surrounding and following the events of back cover; the Master of Master's motivations, what happens to the Foretellers, the events of the Keyblade War, and then the clean up afterwards that led to the creation of Scala ad Caelumand the world's as we know it. You don't really have to watch a full playthrough, I'd just watch like, a story explanation video or a cutscenes collection.
It also provides some context for characters in the modern age that go without backstory or proper explanation in the other games. I don't want to spoil anything that happens because, despite how confusing it can be, it is still a pretty good story and is best experienced blind.
Honestly, Back Cover is such a bad story, it covers only like 5% of the entire Chi/UnionX events. SE should definetely make another re-telling of this game events (Yeah you can access cutscenes in "what left of mobile game", but how long will it take for them to finally delist UnionX from app stores entirely, we do not know).

Maybe it’s because Aqua treads through worlds long been broken in the realm of darkness, and had to break the path to allow the others to escape while she remained stuck. Could also have to do with her constantly being reminded that Terra and Ventus may be lost and their connections fractured or fragmented.
