Max and the BLESSED MAN FOREVER title transcend the 145 title right now, the bmf is the spiritual leader of the sport and should be held in the highest esteem. Only a few names can even qualify for or warrant a chance at it in the entirety of MMA.
Bottle boy is good but he doesnât meet the criteria.
You gotta take short notice fights. You gotta fight at the top for years without a title. You have to bounce back from hard losses. You need to jump weight classes. You have to get fotn and kotn. You have to embody the spirit of a good, hard fight.
Topuria got to the top quick and knocked out the champ who has beat the bmf 3 times, heâs fought at 155 (herbert) on short notice when his 145 opponent pulled out. He got clean shinned to the chin and sat down to come back and win the fight via walk off KO

BMF could be its own league at this point. It's an entertaining product, lots of fighters prefer to fight under its honor code and you got tons of these guys in every weightclass.

I think Max should stick around at 155. As the BMF he doesnât need to fight grapplers, he can rematch Poirier or the winner of Conor vs Chandler, and the payday is way bigger than the potential matchups at 145.
Also, Max has already been champ at 145.
But if the two belts are on the line and winner takes all it makes more interesting than potential Poirier fight. Ofc McGregor brings all the show but for now I see more exciting Max vs Topuria than Max vs Dustin/Chandler

I agree that is what he should do, but I truly think Holloway wants to do 2 things: 1. Make history and 2. Be known as the best fighter in the world. Iâm predicting that he will seek to become double champ at 145 and 155 AND defend the BMF belt. He will go back down and fight Topuria, and then he will patiently wait for an opportunity to go for the 155 belt, and along the way he will defend the BMF

I think ppl misinterpret what the BMF title is all about. Itâs not like a traditional title that has to defended all the time but more of a title meant to commemorate a fight between two guys that established a resume fitting and worthy to be called the âBMFâ. It also serves the purpose to sell that fight as a main event with a title at stake between two guys that arenât actual champs.
Topuria-Holloway for the featherweight title sells itself and doesnât need or fit what the BMF title was intended to serve as mentioned above.
I like the idea, Brian Ortega would probably prefer the BMF. Except that Max gave Brian the worst beating of his life, almost broke his spirit, and heâs never been the same since. I donât think Brian ever wants to fight max again.
I just came here to say the same thing. Not down on Bryan. Hislast fight was impressive. But I think his fight with Max just was not competitive enough to ask the UFC to do it again in light of Max's new found star power. It just isn't going to happen.

Picture it. Two of the best strikers in MMA put both titles up in a âBMFâ match. Instant double champ either way. I canât lie, I was so impressed with max (one of my all time favorites just under Gaethje) but the entire fight I compared every aspect of his game to topuria. I feel like its a âmust seeâ and I like it even if topurias belt isnât on the line. Sweetens the pot and the interest if it is but for sheer sport, we need this fight. The ortega idea is brilliant but I think we have to get it while its hot.$$$$

There is only 1(at a time, now 2 in existence) BMF title-belts...
There is the same belt at every weightclass for each classes champion and the BMF is the rarest title (and the coolest concept) of them all!

Ilya hasnt done enough to even be a whisper of a true BMF. The deeper into the calendar he goes without fighting Max gotta help Max, meaning more film & wear & tear on Ilya's tires especially if he goes against Ortega & a rested Volk. Did any of the BMF participants so far have a resume that was so easily questioned as to the criteria? Not a single 1 even if we the original authors of the BMF in Nick & Cowboy. You cant be a BMF title holder with questions. Like Max said: "We got questions" so far so good but theres undeniable questions

Well, sir you are becomg Topurias fan without knowingđ. Here is what i understood from your break down. Topuria is a very smart man and just as good at poker game seems like it. Keeping all his cards closed and making every one wonder what hand heâs playing. Max vs Ortega is nonsense, cause Ortega has nothing to offer back to Max and nonsense Max to come down weight class for kiddish game. Max was a BMF before belt, will be a BMF with or without, just like many other fighters in the history of this sport. BMF belt was meaningless, worthless before this fight and guess what, not Max, not Justin, not that KO, but Topuria is the one who made that belt sound priceless by saying, Max has something he wants just for his legacy. Imagine taking the BMF match over the actual undisputed title match...not because of the the title status, but because one fight is just more intriguing than the other. Ortega lost to Max before, that's true, imagine Ortega learned something and beats Max (not likely) and/or it's a better fight altogether....how belittled Tuporia must feel after that...Max wins against Ortega and keeps doing this at 145 to all the other contenders and they all chose the BMF over the actual division title...at that point, is the actual title worth anything....like uncle Chael said "...I think the BMF title, wins..."

BMF is a fancy way to say "the people's champ". If you're a current undisputed champ, you shouldn't be eligible to fight for it. The People's Champ is someone that meets all the criteria of a real champ but isn't because there's someone else in their division keeping them from the belt. Examples Holloway, Oliveira, and Whittaker.
I think Ortega would chose to fight for the BMF belt only because Max is the one that holds it.
BMF can only change hands on a finish must be a rule.
Ilia went from water bottle boy to champions of the world. Paddy went from a fan favorite to someone no one really wants to watch. How just one year in the fight game can change everything.
If the BMF goes to a champion it will always stay with whoever is champion. You can't lose a fight and win the BMF belt, it'd be absurd. For this reason the UFC must prevent champions from fighting for the BMF.
I remember when champions defended their belt just to prove they're the best in the world.. I dont think Ilia deserves a shot at the BMF, that said, put both belts on the line because Max wins anyway

While I agree that the bmf numbers have been great I think it's more about Everytime it's contested these are house hold names fighting for it not because the belt itself is so coveted , wether it is Nate v George , Dustin v Justin, Justin v Max , people want to see those guys with our without that belt , it could be said that outside of volk v Islam those fighters are bigger stars fighting each other despite maybe not being the highest rank fighters

Chael, if one of the undisputed champions get the BMF what is the point of the BMF existing? The champ could just defend the BMF and not the undisputed? Would make the BMF pointless. I don't even like it when they do it in WWE
I like the idea, Chael, but Bryan Ortega in the story is a bit of a wet blanket on the whole thing. Not that he's a bad fighter or doesn't deserve a chance. But Max fought Bryan already and it is perhaps Max's greatest performance, looking even more dominant than he did in 300, which is saying a lot. The idea with Bryan just won't fly from a promotional standpoint.
The BMF is a belt beyond record. Its about being a gladiator.

Is max a contender for the 145 belt? Not quite, it seems, although he sure is number 2 after ortega. Is ilia a contender for the BMF belt? Not even close. You gotta keep the two separate and not allow weight class champs to put up ultimatums to strongarm their way to a BMF belt by holding their division hostage. Im not saying Ilia is doing that yet but generally speaking, a BMF champ who is a number 1 contender should not put up his belt without Danas approval. Otherwise it will lose its meaning and turn into another belt based on skill rather than being a BMF.

Should there be a female BMF belt?
I understand the acronym wouldn't make much sense but do we, or do we not, fundamentally have a secondary gimmick belt for the females as well? If so, it needs to start now while the male BMF belt is still in its early days; OR we just don't have one at all, but the conversation isn't even happening, and it would be weird to have it later when it could be happening now. Again, if we don't want to have a female BMF belt, fair; there's plenty of reasons not to, but the community needs to discuss this.

I'm sorry but we have got to stop this PR campaign for Topuria fighting for the BMF. He's a great fighter but to fight for that belt you've got to have paid your dues and proven you're a legit BMF over a career.
