It affected tuporia enough to firmly state that he wants the BMF belt. That would be a high motivation for him to fight max. To take that from him

I think your right chael cause i dont think illia warrants the respect the bmf carries yet i dont think max should have to put up the belt to fight for the 145 strap bmf signifies people that throw it down everytime they step in that ring and make the show bigger than life
Saying the BMF is more meaningful than the Champion Belt is, in my opinion, a wild statement. Sure, it's probably more entertaining for the fans, and I agree with this. But it's purpose, in my eyes, is to provide spectacular fights between entertaining fighters, not neccessarly to crown the best fighter in the division. This is proved by the fact that most people wouldn't wanna see a fighter like Khabib go for the BMF because no matter how dominant he is, they'd find him boring.
And this is why I don't think it should be taken as a more "meaningful" belt than the Champion Belt. Because at their core, these guys are athletes, and the biggest honor for an athlete is to be THE BEST, not "the most entertaining"

BMF should be like an allstar game. Only former champs with a succesful defense, certain winning % fighters, and bmf members vote on who joins the club. Fans get a 33% vote.

am i the only one who sees an issue with the bmf belt existing? eventually the bmf belt will make its way into the hands of an actual divisional champion, which then makes it impossible for said champ to have a fight with anyone else for the bmf belt on the line, because then the divisional belt would be on the line, and the two would stay stuck as unified forever. the only way out of this is if the divisional champ keeps their division champ and moves weights to fight someone else above or below them for the bmf belt, which would kind of be okay except for the fact that if a divisional champ is to move up or down in weight, they'd probably want to fight the champ of that weight class which would keep the two belts unified forever; only way around this is if the divisional+bmf champ chooses to willingly not fight for a divisional champ and fights a contender for the bmf belt; but if this contender wins, then they just have more reason to book a fight with their division's champ, and then the two belts just become unified again. are we to just play a game of cat and mouse forever where the two belts constantly keep finding themselves unified? there's fundamentally no workaround to this.
if max fights ortega for it and wins, max then has even more reason to book the fight with ilia, and if max chooses to not put up the bmf belt against ilia but loses, then it's weird because you have someone who just won a fight vs the bmf but they themselves arent the bmf now? seems like if you beat up the baddest dude, you're now the baddest dude, but the other guy still is just because he didnt "put up the belt"? this is nonsense. and if ortega beats max, then ortega has even more reason to just go fight ilia for the belt, and the same issue occurs.
how is no one else realizing this? everyone is so excited to see who max fights next they're not looking down the line at what happens 2, 3, 4 bmf fights into the future.

The BMF is a peer driven title for those fighters who have established themselves as a BMF. The UFC will choose Max’s next opponent to fight for that belt and it may not be on the line if Max goes down to fight Ilia for the 145 lb title as Ilia hasn’t been in the UFC long enough to establish himself as a BMF by his peers yet even though he’s a great fighter. There is zero chance Ortega fights Max for the BMF. If Conor beats the Chandler, he will fight Max for the BMF title which will be the biggest money fight since Conor Khabib.
I think Max should wait and see how the Chandler-McGregor fight plays out before committing to anything. The Conor fight is the one he should want more than anything as that will earn him a huge payday while getting an opportunity to avenge his loss against him early in his career. The Topuria fight will always be there as I don’t see any of the other guys besides maybe Evolev that can compete with Ilia.
It’s starting to look like ilia is a little worried about max. He hasn’t even defended the belt yet and he thinks he runs things. When he defends a few times successfully then he might deserve the BMF. Until then he needs to defend the FW title against max. Dana needs to make that happen. I’m pretty sure he still runs things…

BMF is for your “anyone, any time, & any place” fighter. And by that rationale, with Toporia’s denial of Volk’s immediate rematch, Illia is no BMF.

Chael has to stop saying that Max has to put up his BMF belt to whoever he fights next. The BMF is a peer driven belt given to those who established themselves as such in the sport by their peers. Max went up to 155 to fight Gaethje for the BMF. Ortega is in no position to challenge Max for the BMF with only 2 wins in the past 6 years AND have Max come down to 145. Same goes for Ilia, he hasn’t established himself as a BMF but wants Max to put up the belt he won by beating a BMF at 155.

Come o. Cheal max is the youngest fighter to ever win a title. He has never ben dropped or knocked out. He been in ufc a long time and still headlining ppv events. Throws blows in the middle of the Octagon. I'm still getting goosebumps. Forget the first fight. That was a test run. Max can walk onto a press conference and know for a fact that he is the baddest mother pucker in the room. Stamp sealed and authenticated by Dana himself. What does the belt say what does it represent. I think it reads BMF. Ko one in that press conference. Can deny that he is info undoubtedly the Baddest mother Phucker in the room. Any room. Regardless if the champ of any weight classes presence.

I think the rule should be if you hold a division championship belt you cannot also hold the BMF. For example, if Max and Tuporia fight it is for the 145 championship title. If Max wins, he needs to put the BMF belt up for grabs to be fought for by two badasses of Dana’s choosing. The BMF is for badass fighters that don’t have a title but deserve recognition for their badassery

Topuria hasn’t earned the bmf he’s barely earned the belt he got. He was damn near handed that belt, had the easiest path of any one to the belt and now thinks he doesn’t have to fight anymore. Max and Justin are why the bmf is what it is now especially max.
