- This is a new 2024 remastered version with better audio and video of a rare film already released on The Magda Olivero Archives in 2020. If you ever wondered why Magda Olivero became a living legend? Here is a chance to understand the reasons she drove opera lovers into frenzy.
This document was captured during a live performance of Boito's Mefistofele, given in Newark in 1976, with Magda Olivero in the role of Margarita, Jerome Hines as Mefistofele, Giuseppe Campora as Faust, Alfredo Silipigni was the conductor. The last 2 scenes of the opera are mad scenes and are quite taxing for sopranos; Magda, already in her mid-sixties, is in total command vocally and scenically. It is the only filmed excerpts from a staged performance that we have of Magda Olivero, no lip-sync as it was done at that period for operatic movies.
Her vocal technique was so accomplished that she could completely forget about it and navigate effortlessly through the difficult musical passages, free to let her feelings soar with the music, all the while totally identifying with the protagonist.

Questo documento è stato catturato durante una rappresentazione dal vivo del Mefistofele di Boito, data a Newark nel 1976, con Magda Olivero nel ruolo di Margarita, Jerome Hines come Mefistofele, Giuseppe Campora come Faust e Alfredo Silipigni come direttore d'orchestra. La sua tecnica vocale era così raffinata che poteva dimenticarsene completamente e attraversare senza sforzo i difficili passaggi musicali, libera di lasciare che i suoi sentimenti si elevassero con la musica, mentre si identificava totalmente con la protagonista.

I have wanted for years : such a collection of documents .....I knew it : one day the archives give us their treasures and now we have it....best wishes now for Easter
