      Even though I grew up having my name mispronounced and just made fun of a lot, I'm most likely going to give my future kids unique names as well. I feel like it helped me be the person I am today and I feel like more people hate when they have "normal" names and have like two other people with the same name than being the only one. But... Of course I won't be that cruel and give them a Normal middle name they can fall back on like I did. That is definitely a comfort to have.

      no dude, sorry ... it doesn't sound even close to french...latin based languages LOVE their vowels....and even more so with the french, and their 'E' ... they have e é ê è ë ... so for instance they pronounce it Pénélope ( the last E is silent) - there is no way a french guy would make an E sound even close to an A ..

    • @rusenescualin3739
      @rusenescualin3739 Před 6 lety

      yep, that's the one ... as u can see the 'E's in the middle both have the accent "é" ... it's hard to explain what a letter "sounds" like, but i think the closest to that "é" in Pénélope,would be the E u hear when u say Jared ... it comes close, not exact, but very close....so u can understand why i said the french wouldn't pronounce an E nowhere near an A...

    Also you would not believe the variations on a theme I get of my name. Bree-awn-uh, Brin-uh, Bree-nuh. I even got Brittany once and I don't think they even tried.
    Surprisingly, my married name is very very hard for people to understand for some reason. Like, people just look at me blankly when I tell them it's Deal. And then they ask me to spell it. And then there's the puns. "I guess you're a pretty big deal, huh" : |

    Yeah, as a kid I didn't like my first name because no one could pronounce it and I was the only one in school with the name. For the longest time (and even now and then when I meet strangers) I went by my middle name because it was "Normal". Around middle School I started going by my nickname and it kinda stuck. But yeah, people who find out what Toi is short for is quite surprised because literally my name was a mistake and my parents never even bothered to fix.

    yeah my name is a weird one too. it's actually Iona, but ive been called Lona, Eeona, Lorna, Ionay. People have spelled it Eiyona, Eyeona etc. Ive had stupid and annoying puns made out of my name, the worst one was when I was in secondary school and when the teachers were marking the register they would call my name and then say, "So Iona, what do you OWN today?" I loathed going into class.

    I used to be extremely shy and nobody really knew me until I came to high school. That's where I just decided to say FISH (Fuck It, Shit's Hard) and started to really get out there, not caring what other people thought about me. And then I became a very well known by all the high schoolers, even the upperclassmen thought I was pretty cool because I always spoke my mind (although that did get me in trouble sometimes..) and I had an interesting sense of humor I guess.
    Anyway, when I hit high school, I decided to not care anymore and just be me around people who accept me for who I am. So if you're scared to show people who you are, just say FISH and know that if you just be yourself, you'll be a lot happier in life :)
