  • Saturday I went to the WFMU Record Fair. Since most everyone was looking for vinyl, I was able to find incredible CD Boxsets, Imports and Bootlegs for next to nothing. I also found great deals on magazines and I found some very rare Rolling Stones memorabilia this weekend. Enjoy this fantastic haul in this golden age of buying used CD's.

I was at the 1981 Carrier Dome show (1st night, November 27th, 2nd show the following night November 28th which I did not attend). I had seen them in Buffalo in September, 1981 (Rich Stadium), but the Carrier Dome show was the best. I have seen the Stones 15 times since 1975, and the 1981 Carrier Dome show ranks at the top, fantastic show. I had gone with a friend who was not a fan of the Rolling Stones. After the show, he said it was the best show he'd ever seen, and repeated this everywhere in our entourage and became an instant convert after that night in Syracuse. I have a few of those programs you showed, given away at the door that night. Thanks, Alan, for bringing back great memories of an unforgettable Stones show.

Thanks so much for your fantastic personal story. Love it. Thanks also for the info on the Carrier Dome hand out program. That’s so awesome they handed them out for free. I’ve never heard of that. I saw the 1981 tour three times and never saw something like that. Very cool. Thanks again.

My favorite part of your huge haul is the publications. The NME poll-winners all-star concert program is an extraordinary addition to your already impressive collection of rock ‘n’ roll memorabilia. The Stones 1981 Syracuse program is a great reminder of what was an awesome tour. I’m a sucker for the kind of hefty, book-like magazines you picked up. On the audio end of things, I especially like the Simon and Garfunkel and the Springsteen bootlegs. The Ian Hunter LP ranks among my most favorite album titles. Melanie’s “Cyclone” is indeed an awesome song. In regard to bringing home so many CDs, just tell your 12-step program group that “the price was right.”

The programs from NME’64 and The Stones ‘81 gig are great. The NME gig is available on bootleg dvd in great quality and those events were a lot of fun . I love the Stones 1981 tour. I went to the first show in Philly on Sept.25. Many of those concerts are available in awesome quality on boot CDs . It’s great when boots let you relive an amazing performance. Love the channel.

Thanks so much. I loved the 81 Tour as well - one of the best shows ever was seeing Tina Turner open for them in NJ and then joining them on stage. The opening Philly gig had some songs they never played again on that tour - very cool.

That NME programme is a good find. I remember watching these shows on TV when I was 8 or 9. Great shows - the Stones were the best! Checking online I see that programme sold, in a Beatles related auction, for $628 in 2019. Not bad!

Hi 👋 Alan I remember buying the British publication NME magazines back in the 1970s / 80s. My mother liked Rick Nelson, she loved his song Hello Mary Lou, and i have a cd of his music. I like the song Garden Party which was a big hit for him in 1972. I like REM and i had their debut album Murmur in 1983 on vinyl. That Automatic for the People was a huge seller. Good finds and prices.

Alan you sure get some neat stuff & cheap. I get my boots from traders. I went to Stones Syracuse show in 81, that weekend saw the boys 3 times. The other two are Buffalo & Detroit. I saw one guy selling bootleg shirts he had made. Cool shirts, every color you can think of. He had 15 different ones outside Detroit stadium. You must be running out of room to store. Good luck on that.

I recently dumped a bunch of stuff from the backlog, but now more than re-filled it up. yea, running out of room and certainly not enough time to listen to it all. Not surprisingly, I'm a fan of the bootleg T-Shirts - oftentimes better than the official shirts at a fraction of the cost. In fact, the Stevie Nicks / Pretenders shirt I'm wearing in this video was a bootleg shirt I bought outside the venue. lol

Hi Alan - nice haul there. Love all of those bands, but good to see you have a Leo Kottke 2CD anthology. I am a big fan of Leo's - have a lot of his albums and CD's, he's a great guitarist, if you like that kind of thing. Had two amazing finds this past month. Happened to be in a antique / secondhand / junk shop and picked up The Beatles Revolver and Abbey Road Super Deluxe 6 CD box sets in mint condition for $98 AUD each - what a find. As you say you have to be in the right spot at the right time lolol. It does happen sometimes. Like the time I was in our local Salvos and picked up the Beatles Stereo Box Set for $60 AUD - what can you say ?? Amazing. Happy hunting Doug

Congratulations on your amazing finds - wow - better than I've ever found - but as you said they're out there. Just luck being in the right place at the right time. For me, the most fun part, is just being out there looking - great hobby for sure. Congrats again.

Cilla Black went on to become a HUGE tv celebrity in UK .... her singing was ok ... Van Der Graaf is tough to enjoy (gave up) ... except for a superb track "Theme One" which every single rock fan in UK got to know (and love) 'cause in the late '70's was the link song meaning that legendary BBC Radio 1 Friday Night Rock Show hostTommy Vance was about to do the Friday Night Connection Quiz where a listener got 3 songs (with a connection you had to guess) played ... the winner wiuld then chose the songs and pose the connection for the following week .... it was a great way to learn about linkages beween bands, artists, producers, writers ... etc etc .. real geeky rock trivia ... thereafter, you usually got an uninterrupted live set or BBC session on the show... legions of UK listeners then pressed "Record" on '000s of cassette recorders across the UK (me included) .... rest of VDGG / Peter Hammill I leave to the enthusiasts ....(which includes the likes of Fish from Marillion) ...
