I remember watching a clip of Borat's interview back in 2008 or so, long before I knew what a "Borat" was. I thought I was in a dream-wake state when this man said the most absurd and shocking things and the audience actually laughed, as if in encouragement. It wasn't until I watched the movie at a friend's suggestion that I understood...
Sacha Baron Cohen is a comic genius. Also a great actor. Borat is still hilariously funny seventeen years after it was released. The first decade of this Century produced some great comedy films; such a shame that this decade seems to be a rather fallow period for comedy.
You need to thank misguided political correctness for that. Ricky Gervais made a spot-on comment about that. Comedy, and especially satire, works because it mocks unpopular views, sometimes pretending to embrace those. But nowadays you cannot make fun of homosexuality, gender fluidity (whatever that is supposed to be), race, religion, you name it. It is a practical impossibility to make jokes without offending someone. We really need to remember ourselves that “sticks and stones…”.

As an examination centre inspector I visited all parts of Kazakhstan, some people were offended by Borats take, but in general most find him hilarious the geographic size of Kazakhstan mean that towards the east and north east the people and architecture resemble Borats presentation, Brilliant acting and very adaptable I suggest watching SPY to see the real depth of his talent

I never understood how making fun of people's accents is supposed to be funny. Like I get making fun of dumb conservative opinions like he did in his films, but as you can see from the comments and the audience most people don't even get that and are just laughing at "haha funny accent and weird looking sexual innuendo man from 3rd world country". I'm glad this kind of brainless humor at the expense of others went stale.
