Hauling Manure Pit | Hosing 3.5 MILLION gallons 4.5 MILES away

- We pump our manure pit at the dairy 4.5 miles away to a couple other farms we run. We hose or dragline the manure to keep tankers off the roads, less compaction in fields, less odor and less runoff since it gets injected into the soil. A Case 420 FWD tractor is pulling the 26ft injecting disk toolbar and a John Deere 8235R and 8225R are also assisting with the hose. 3 booster pumps are being used to keep the pressure consistent on the 8 inch hose all the way to the field. #manure #nutrientmanagement

love the long continuous drone shots.
Thanks for watching!
Love your content, voice, and commentary. I hope you continue! Thanks!
Appreciate the kind words! Thanks for watching!
Great footage great seeing your operation. Louse background music. I know it's probably not your choice either. But keep farming on and posting more video's.
We need one of those nuhn boats!
Thumbs up !
That’s pretty cool dude
Interesting. It would have been more interesting to see them deploy, clean and retrieve all that hose.
You're right I try to film as much as I can but still have my own chores to get done. I'm not a pro at this. Thanks for watching
A couple years ago I took a job driving one of those.
At the end of the night we took a heavy bullet sponge and used compressed air to shoot the sponge thru the hose to clean it out.
The hose gets wound up onto hydraulically driven reels.
Awesome video.
Oh how I wish you could pump some of that onto our land. We have not had livestock in our area for many years and the land is suffering from it.
But wow is some serious technology to be able to pump that far and avoid the transfer cost of trucking.
Thanks for watching!
first time here, great video Aaron!
Appreciate it!
Thats a heck of pipe
Thanks for watching!
Can't believe Gansen is running a red tractor.
Nice video love to see farming going on in different parts of the country. 4.5 miles that’s a good distance!! I’m a dairy farmer from NY and we have our own dragline equipment and have enough hose and pump to get 2 miles away luckily we have lots of land near our 2 pits. We usually pump around 10 million gallons a year.
Appreciate you watching! Thanks. 10 million gallons is a lot!
NorthEast Diesel what part of NY we have a dairy farm in dutchess county
Nathan Mullaney Western New York.
Nathan Mullaney Niagara county
Thats a long ways. I didn't realize this was feasible or cheap
Wonder what a job like that would cost, 4.5 miles is nuts!!!
That’s crazy how far they pumped what they charge out that way for dragline
Kinda depends
Lol that's average distance. .. hauled it up to 12 miles away before . I'm sure there is even further ones.
@@banditgrizzy1955 I know
That’s some crazy shit (pun intended)
Hahahaha
That's me
Amazing footage. Nice operation. I'm a new subscriber so would like to know what part of the country you are from. Thanks
Wisconsin. Thanks for watching
Wow it seems like by the time they fill the pipe with manure, the pond would be empty. 4.5 miles is a lot of volume!
Dairy farmers are leaveing the Industries hear in Australia,,,drought and cost of grain,, things are serious with the drought and water a big concern,,,
Right, changing weather and climate and particularly limited water and drought makes farming hard, and even not affordable anymore at some and many places. But who is going to feed the world than? We need all farmers and land and farming skills to feed the continuous growing population globally. Dont we?
Dang! 4.5 miles!! I didn't think u could pump it that far. I wondered how they got handled roads. Colvers lol.
How much faster than using tankers? 10x 20x?
Went under 3 roads I believe. Took about 2 good days once they got all set up. I'd imagine it'd take 7-10 days to tank depending on how big tanks are and how many
thanks for this great vid!:) How many gallons of manure do guys put down per acre?
depends on field conditions
Be interesting if you gave stats on acreage coverage...if you will also apply fertilizer in spring...how long it took to drain...
Don't really need to apply any fertilizer in spring. Probably took em 4-5 hours to roll all the hose up and clean up if that's what you meant. I'd guess they covered about 300 acres maybe a little more
Thanks for the reply
Gotta say the operator leaves pretty good teardrops smooth on the turns.... Out of curiosity dose your drag hose have any splices?
Thanks for watching! This was actually a custom draglining crew. I'm not sure if there was any splices in their hose
How many gallons to the acre is applied and how often is lime needed?
I’m guessing the sand will build up over time on your fields. Do you eventually have to remove it, or do you till it in the soil? Great video!
We apply it to our clay soils and till it. It actually helps the clay soils breathe more and improves the drainage. It would take a 100 years of doing this to see a noticeable effect in the soil
That was a much better shit show than the impeachment hearings, thanks for sharing that shit.
Haha thanks for the laugh!
I can honestly say i kind of do miss pumping shit the hardest part of the job is just running the hose through road tiles and everything honestly once the hose is laid its easy money running in a field barely going 1 mph and some watching the pump amd agitator
Thanks for watching
So there's a special vehicle/trailer where that hose spools up, right? And how many years does the hose last before it's messed up from all the dragging around?
Yea there's hose carts. I'm not sure how many years the hose lasts. We hire a local custom guy to dragline the manure
You said you switched from using sand to bed with so it was easier to agitate. What did you switch to? Thanks!
We switched types of sand
When the shit gets real only a red tractor will do
Haha thanks for watching!
you said you stopped using river sand..what sand was in the pile in the video ? was the new type of sand any better to pump out?
it was the same
How do you clean that pipe out after the poo pump. When I was a kid it was a horse and stone boat and a kid with a 4 tine fork
We've come a long ways haha
How often does that pit fill up and need pumping?
Usually twice a year
How do you run the lay flat hose through the colverts?
It gets pulled through with rope
How do you keep all the flies away from it?
40 degrees. There aren't any. We're also able to use certified organic natural fly control sprays
It’s crazy what farmers do to put food on the table.
Thanks for watching!
Is this done every year ? Saves quite a bit of time and money spent for fuel if it had to be tanked I guess .
Yes
why do they pump that far, around here we just load trucks and then empty them into a holding tank on the side of the field and then pump it to the tractor
Faster and takes less guys. We do truck some also
Are your buster pumps radio or internet controlled ? The dairies in this area next to one of my farms let the pits dry then spread. It cost me $8.50 / ton so I usually buy feedlot manure instead because it is about double the value.
There is one dairy family here with two 40,000 cow campuses so they have to sling a lot of shit! On a lot of land.
Everything is controlled in the tractor that is draglining the manure
Farmer .at the supply store.....
Farmer.. Hi I want to buy a few pump and some hose..
Store... How much hose you need...
Farmer.. Oh about 4 or 4.5 miles worth
What country is this,,, I am from.Australia,,,thankyou,,
America
That must cost a pretty penny to get everything done
Yea farming ain't cheap
how deep are you pull the manure in ?
2-3 inches
Ain't that some shit LMAO
Well my dad
And yes English is hard
Does dragging the hose on the ground like that, cause wear to it?
Yea just like operating any kind of equipment, the more you use it the more wear and tear it gets
Hi Nice video
How many Gaon a ac you apply?
It depends on field conditions
yes
we apply for corn in the spring between 6000 to 8000 pro ac not puld in .
i just was curious how much are you able to pull in i to normal condition?
her in Canada eastern Ontario i don't see this jet.
How do you store a hose that long?
They have reels on hydraulics. You can see it in the snaplage video I made
Harrison Fowler
That’s what she said!🤣🤣
Where are you located? Are you located north of Guttenberg?
No close to dubuque
@@hanksfarmvideos I'm from the Sherrill area. Back in the 90s,I working for a pumper for seven years doing the same thing. The money was good but you lived like a hermit.
Saw this happening round where I live. Do you know how much pressure is going through the hose?
150 psi
How do they empty out 4,5miles of hose after they are finished?
They finished up at a farm that was about 2 miles away. It's easier for them to get more out of the bottom of the pit if they don't have to pump it as far
Our guys put a sponge ball into the pipe then push it through using compressed air to empty out the slurry
Puts a fun spin on stiring up some shit....
Nature's perfume!
How many gallons per acre were you putting down?
I would like to know as well. While the tractor was turning it looked like quite a bit.
What's the point of adding sand? Doesn't that just add wear on the pump and all?
Bedding for the cows. They love it
Aaron where are you located at!?
Southwest WI
@@hanksfarmvideos beautiful area down their! Who works on your harvestores if I may ask!?
Sorry aaron that was meant for another channel!
Good grief, that's a lot of pipe.
With there being that much hose how can he even pull on it with it wanting to just break right off from the tractor??
I know right!? It's impressive. He's using a 420 horsepower tractor and going very slow. The last hose is actually a smaller hose so it will pull a little easier.
are you hiring, i love to get my hands dirty and work on a farm, where are you, i am in Ontario Canada
no but thanks for watching!
those are some sloppy turnarounds, shouldn't have that keyhole in the application at the ends
Is what it is
Applying shit doesn't seem that critical to worry about being that precise
Does it reduce the smell any? Here they simply spray and boy does that stink.
Yea I mentioned that in the video I think. Significantly less odor
The guy who pump your pit, is his name Kevin
No
Pretty far
that is a whole lotta shit
Lot of fertilizer for the crops
