      Hey there fellow small boat sailors :)
      We had a Cal20 before on the Canadian West Coast. You should come to the Caribbean next. We still haven't seen any boat here smaller than ours

    I have to ask , how are you financing this lifestyle ? $10K for the boat is great , but how are you funding day to day living . food , bills, marina fees , repairs /maintenance and the plethora of expenses involved in this lifestyle.

    • @rickandanna
      @rickandanna  Před 6 měsíci +3

      Hi George, thanks for your comment. We are really trying to keep our expenses low. Cook in the boat 90% of the time, no bills (solar power and free water), no marinas (we are always anchoring for free), and so far we are repairing the boat ourselves. We’ll make a future video on this if this is interesting for people! Stay tuned for the following episodes where we show a bit more of how we got the boat ready and the beginning of the trip!

    • @George-dx2sd
      @George-dx2sd Před 6 měsíci +4

      @@rickandanna That would be interesting as I'm sure many others including myself would like to do similar. I always feel that people who do this must have significant financial back up ie Sold their house to fund the trip for example.

    Step 1: Have money.
    Step 2: Don't have no money
    Seriously. If you don't have a way to make an income online or you have big, fat savings, you won't be able to sail full stop. Sailing 6 months, working 6 months always sound great, until you leave your boat somewhere remote, got to pay for it from the distance, then work and live locally, not save a lot of money due to high living costs, then you finally make it back to the boat and need to spend the first few weeks cleaning the boat up and getting it up to spec again to go on, then you probably also have to spend some money on boat jobs etc and before you know it, you're almost out of money or time or both.
    Hence why most people try to start a youtube channel.
    That being said: It's still possible and I wish you the best of luck.

    • @rickandanna
      @rickandanna  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Great comment, thanks!
      The truth is
      1) we live and travel very very cheap
      2) we have a smaller boat than most people are sailing in the Caribbean, that helps a lot to keep it cheap
      3) we are not planning to do this for a very long time
      We want to show how we are able to do this with a small budget in our future videos. Coming soon...

    • @obiwanfisher537
      @obiwanfisher537 Před 6 měsíci

      @@rickandanna Yeah, being at anchor most of the times, catching and fishing, installing solar and wind energy, and then living off savings is quite easy. But not sustainable, which is what keeps most people from doing this.
