When Trash Talk Goes Wrong - Julio Cesar Chavez against Greg Haugen

For his tenth defense of the WBC super lightweight title, the great Julio Cesar Chavez entered the ring against American Greg Haugen. Before the fight, Haugen boldly declared that Chavez had only ever fought " Tijuana taxi drivers". He also implied that the Mexican fans were too poor to come see the fight in the Aztec Arena in Mexico city..
More than 130,000 people then paid to enter the event, which means that the total number of people in the stadium was at least 150,000 people. It seemed as if the whole of Mexico was waiting for the victory of its champion!

Haugen was nothing more than a club fighter. That’s what he would have been when was boxing an important sport. A tough guy but limited. Chavez was carrying him until he wasn’t. He kept hitting Haugen with the same right hand.
