Hi Barbie
Thell the parents to pick out half the toys and put them in their closet. Wait a month and switch the toys. I done this with my kids and they thought they had new toys! It works great too! Sometimes kids get overwhelmed with too much stuff. 🙂

Barbie had mentioned at the beginning the lady came from a shelter. I'm assuming a women's shelter for those getting out of an abusive relationship. It takes a lot of courage to remove oneself out of a terrible relationship, let alone having a child/ren to boot.
My hat goes out to her and to all those who have been able to do so.
To all those that are still in those situations, my heart goes out to you. It isn't easy to leave. So many variables to consider. I understand the massive stress you are under. I've succeeded in removing my children and myself from abusive relationships. Everyone's' situation is unique.
To Barbie, thank you for being one of many resource out there to help those who are in need.

When you have small children, you can literally spend the day cleaning the entire house, go to the loo for a minute and then open the door to this kind of mess 😅 Well done for helping her out Barbie.
I try to keep this in mind, i work from home and have 2 children, i cannot keep up throughout the week... I tell myself its only going to be this way for a relativly short amount of time..

I have four kids. I spent an hour in my oldest room today changing sheets, folding clothes, hanging things, putting things away and vacuuming. I came downstairs to get a drink of water and my living room had exploded. There were snacks, toys, random shoes and art supplies scattered all over my floor, table and couch. If all the kids help pick up it takes about 20 minutes to clean the living room so that’s not bad, but the fact that a new mess was being created before I had a chance to finish the bedroom made me want to kick the kids outside to “get fresh air and exercise” far away from where they could jack up my house further🤦🏻♀️
I’ll give you an expression I read one day when my kids were young; cleaning your house while your children are still awake is like shoveling snow during a blizzard.
I kept that with me for years ❤

I don't have kids of my own, but from what I've learned as an auntie, the minute you start cleaning one mess they're starting to make another! Good luck to this mom moving forward! :)

One of the more rare situations you're cleaning in where the apartment is still quite nice and not in terrible condition, just messy condition 😊. As always, you did a fantastic job 👏. I feel for those single moms out there who struggle to keep up with everything when I know that doing that is so hard. Best to try to engage the children as soon as practical to help with the picking up of their own things so that good habits are formed which can be beneficial for both mother and child and the other sibling(s). ❤

I experienced being in a Shelter and seeing this video touched my heart because I've talked to young mothers within the Shelter and they need more then just placing them in housing with their child or children.
Barbie, you show so much compassion with those you help and I hope this mother takes what you've done and is able to take steps to maintain this nice apartment so the System doesn't have to step in.
That was so good to see. Much work but not that heavy and dirt. We can imagine how this mom and daughter marveled at the way a fairy breeze changed their home.

One of my favorites so far! I’m sure this mom will very much appreciate the fresh start. I’m pretty sure many of us, to include myself know how exhausting being a single parent can be, the emotional stress of the separation, having to move and start over and working too. You’ve done a great job and her apartment is so nice❤ That small added touch of lighting a cozy candle was so sweet, light is always a sign of hope and she is a survivor as her sign says. My favorite, so far, as well. I also appreciate the helpful tips. I am a single, overworked and overwhelmed middle-aged woman in Los Angeles, California. I struggle to know how to begin, how to sort random items. This video was helpful in regards to both issues.
Do you know Marie Kondo books. They are two, the best guide I found to reorganize everything, tecnical and yet respecting what makes us happy. Doesn't have to be done all of a sudden, but progressively and with method. ⚘

@@lesyarosa8091 Thank you, yes! I know the Marie Kondo book(s). I have been giving away those things that don't "spark joy" in me -- or that I don't use. But I am in the process of being tested for ADD at UCLA. I am easily distracted. I'm not sure I have it in me to practice her folding techniques -- which require focus and consistent intent. My friend, a single mom, did it with her daughter and said it changed her world... I keep my socks, bras, and other items in those over-the-door shoe storage pockets and that works for me. I'm a person who needs to SEE items to remember the items I have! I also use those over-the-door shoe storage pockets for batteries, extension cords and random tools -- on the back of my entry hall closet. Thank you for the tip. I have Marie Kondo's first book. Now that you mention it... I think I'll re-read it. 👍🙏

But whenever you have the chance to try, the folding is worth it, we "file" the clothes, or even the plastic bags, and we can see every piece at one look. It changed my life, it feels like freedom, because once something is filed, the order maintains by itself, and I'm not by nature the ideal housewife. ⚘

Great job Barbie 😁😁🎉🎉 for this mom who wants to declutter... I learned some tips from another lady on the internet called Fly Lady. You get 3 boxes - a donate box, a giveaway box & a throw away box .. label each box. Set your timer for 15 minutes. When all boxes are full - take the throwaway box to the garbage bin, and put away the items in the put away box by putting things back in their place. The donate box goes outside to your car ..not back into your house. For kids you can make it fun by playing a game...let them choose the toys that they are playing with...any toys that they have outgrown you can tell them that they must be given to other kids who don't have any toys...any extra toys that they want to keep must be placed up high in the cupboards & then rotate the toys every few months when you see that they are getting bored with their current toys

If you have a small space like an apartment and your living room doubles as a play area for your kids, you must have a way for all the toys to go completely away at the end of each day. Either get a cubbie shelf with baskets, or a toybox, or just a bookshelf with some bins on it, but, for your own sanity, the toys need to be put up when they go to bed so you can relax without swimming kid stuff. If there is more than what will fit in whatever storage you have, then something needs to go.
This mother is not teaching her girls anything about cleaning up after play which is too bad…
It’s actually a very nice apartment when its all clean up. You’re a God send for helping out people , who needed to get things in order.

I suffer mental health and understand how overwhelming a messy home can be but since getting rid of and still getting rid of stuff the house just naturally got cleaner and I could see where things were better. Still a working progress but better than it was 😊

i recommend letting go of sooooo many toys. it’s what i call “ toy vomit”! it’s everywhere and there’s too much. your child wants your time and attention not necessarily a bunch of junkie toys that end up just thrown around. growing up i had a doll, some doll clothes, coloring books and crayons and books… that was it. and only as birthday gifts or Christmas gifts ( which were mostly new clothes). i think too any parents think if they buy their kids lots of toys it makes them feel like they are showering their kids with live and attention. your home won’t be so cluttered.
I fully support you!also I think that it’s necessary to teach a child to put toys back after playing

I totally understand the idea to keep all that stuff, especially since she was in a shelter with her kids, but it’s easier to clean when there’s less stuff. Clutter is stressful, and having room to put things away as well as just moving freely within the apartment is so much beneficial for everyone.

I was in her shoes not too long ago. I was in the same shelter system with my daughter and was able to be placed in an apartment but unfortunately not all women are lucky enough to find a home.
It’s a very depressing time. I suffered a lot 😢
Seeing you support her truly says a lot and I know she deeply appreciates it.

You did a great job I thought,(btw not being negative) that the dishes should have been soaked. Fill that sink with soapy water and a little bleach then drain. Then wash . I just felt like they probably had been sitting in the sink for awhile. Bacteria.... please understand not being negative but if the home is neglected so are the dishes. No telling how long they have Sat in the sink which you are brave to tackle. Keep videos coming 😊

Music in background is basically pollution - sound pollution. You used to not use background music and it was just wonderful.
