- I've never made my New Orleans red beans in a instant pot before and it won't be my last. It's take a little knife skills but it's a super easy recipe.
*I mentioned onion powder in the seasoning mix, there’s none in it but it won’t hurt adding it.

Thank you chef! This recipe is in my instant pot right now and it already smells amazing.
One thing for us clumsy people - use the long handle of a wooden spoon to turn the release valve to vent the steam from your pot to not burn any fingies.
This is SO much more than (from California) ever imagined Red Beans and Rice is all about. THANK YOU Chef Kenneth, for the inspiration and your recipe!!
Chef Temple, I made this tonight (7-28 23) and sticking with your channel-exclusive cooking, baby!!!
You can tell this man knows what he’s talking about because he sounds like he’s from New Orleans. Thanks from Alabama
New Orleans chick here in Vegas! Glad I found you!
I tried out a few recipes before I found this one and gave it a try; this one is by far my favorite! Thank you, Chef!
Love to hear it!
You can sautee all that in the POT, you don't need a separate pan.
Yup 😊
True, but I like to control my heat and you cannot do that on saute mode.
@@ChefKennethTemple yes very true. i dont like to saute on the saute mode in the instant pot at all. not unless its like a little onion and thats it
@@ChefKennethTemple same! Literally when I do my beef stew
Every time I sauté in the pot it’s A problem and it says burn even after deglazing 😢 so I’d use this method
Quick, simple, straight to the point👌🏾. Making this tonight❣️
Aye aye ayeee!
Lafayette chick here!! Thank you for making this for us Louisiana people. Time saver. I’m new to the instant pot. So what other Louisiana staples can I save time on?
You're very welcome!
My boy and I made this today. Omg so delicious. We used last weeks left over smoked pork ribs and your recommended sausage. Lots of bacon. We used chicken broth instead of water. Thank you
Hey, how did the chicken broth do??
Wow. I've been wanting some RB&R. I had the fixings but needed a recipe for my Instant Pot. I didn't have a bell pepper or beef bacon, so I used maple bacon. And I only had smoked turkey legs and smoked pork neck bones. I usually use smoked hocks and smoked turkey legs. I always use Andouille sausage. I like meaty beans. But everything else measured out as listed. Again, Wow! I was hesitant with the cayenne pepper but I pushed through with both tsps. After only a couple of hours I was lifting the bones out as the meat stayed in the pot. I stirred in the seasonings, new for me, and plated, topped with rice. Perfect balance of flavors. I've never had a better bowl of RB&R. Tomorrow I'm making my customary hot water cornbread to sop up the "gravy." Moving forward I'm ditching my all day crock pot recipe for yours. Thank you!
This is a great recipe, I changed up a couple things, but the 2 hours of cook time was spot on. Thanks for posting this!
I made Red beans and Rice for the first time ever today using your recipe. And let me tell you, everyone kept coming back for more. It was sooo good!!! And it was very easy to follow. Thank you and Blessings to you!
Ayyeee!!!
No need to cook instant pot beans for 2 hours.. not necessary to do in instant pot.. 55 minutes in instant pot is perfect!!
If 2 hrs you might as well cook regularly on stove!😊
That's encouraging to know. I hope my family has the same response.
@@dsterl52 yup, I've done them in 2 hours, on the stove top, maybe 2 hours and 15 minutes. But 55 minutes in the instant pot wouldn't be done enough for me.
I'm definitely going to try this! I crave red beans and rice often 😊
"Eat it with a fork or I can't trust you" definitely words to live by... 😉👍
Well chef, I have a recipe I've been using for 20 years and will try yours as my family insists we have this for the holidays. Thanks for sharing ✌
Chef sound authentic. Food look authentic.
Seen a couple of red beans recipes.. I think yours is the best!
Heck yeah this is awesome! Trying this out today here in Wisconsin
Can we get more Southern instant pot recipes?
Not a bad idea. Any you would like to see?

They look so good. I can not wait to try these.
Making this tonight 2023! It’s November and raining in Vegas finally!
Sir. 2 hours in the instant pot. I'm going to do this recipe. I always did 1 hour cooking beans. Amazing recipe sir. Thanks
I think Ive become a little chef during quarantine and this is definitely going to keep that thought going. Lol Cant wait to make this for Sunday dinner!
Yes, Chef!
Just got my instant pot today and this is the first recipe I’m going to make! I can’t wait! Subscribed!
Love it!! Let me know how it comes out!
Man this recipe is awesome. Ya just can’t beat it. Thank you.
Best dinners ever, we use it at least 2 times a week. East cleaning too
Looks great, The only change I make is I use smoked ham hocks instead of the turkey necks, but I’m a little concerned about that cooking time of two hours, I realize you’re doing 2 pounds but if you only do one pound it shouldn’t probably take more than 40 minutes at the longest should it ?
Update : Made this and cooked 50 min, but beans were not soft. Definetely need at least 1:20 minutes
Glad you made them and saw I wasn't cheating you lol. I hope you enjoyed them.
I'm so happy you have the same pressure cooker I have
There's BEEF bacon?!?! How have I never heard of that before. And thank you for the knife tips. I want to show that to my daughter.
Yess i in my 40's my aunt been cooking with beef bacon since we were kids.lol
I do not like beef bacon
I didn't know you eat them with a fork and not a spoon. You learn something new every day beybey!!!
You can do either but I've never ate'em with a spoon lol
Thank you 🙏🏽
I’m trying as I type this. Just waiting for the 2 hours!! 😁 thank you!!
Can I get a count on how meany times he's said "gone head on " 😂, all joke aside thanks man ,need this .
GOOD JOB THANKS.
I am making this tonight but can't get the delicious meat you get so will settle for the sausage and a smoked ham hock.
I used a spoon Period and I’m from New Orleans need that juice
🤣 that gravy hold up just fine in the rice and fork
Get in my belly... this looks amazing my boy... gotta try it
💯💯💯
Thank you! I’ve been looking for an instant pot recipe for red beans and rice. We’re living in Georgia and missing our Louisiana food. 👍
Hopefully, this does the trick.
Yall I made them last night. Omg. I'm now obsessed with my instant pot
I love to hear it!! Thanks for trying the recipe.
That was quick and informative! Perfect!
Thanks Chef planning on making the weekend.✌🏾
You're very welcome! I hope you enjoy!
That’s looks sooo good ima try it
Came out fantastic first time ! Thanks chef!
Made these , amazing !!
Ayeeee!!!
Trying this tonight

LOL, good man!
Me too!
Yes, my fav!!
Made this tonight it was a hit and super easy! Thank you
Aayeee!!!
Based on all these responses, I think I need to try this method. Feel like I can smell it through my screen. 😋
😋😋😋
I don't have an instapot can I make this in my slow cooker as well? It looks delicious!😋😊! Hello from Mississippi
Yep! They'll take about 6 hours in a slow cooker.
delicious, thank you
Chef Temple Pleeeez show us how you make a tasty, perfect brown rice in the Instapot!!!!🙏
Good job!! Make more videos like this!! 👏👏
@Chef Kenneth Temple 2 hours on low pressure or high pressure?
1 hour 30 minutes should be perfect. You may need to add a little more stock, water or broth to loosen it up to the right creamy texture.
Lawd thank you chef, because I ain’t have time to cook a pot the traditional way as full time grad student!
Oh, you gonna be good and fed while studying then! lol
I love your accent 💕🤩💕 🤩 Kenneth, where is the Hot Sauce?😅
Looks delicious but for me, that’s way too much meat but I am sure that this version is a banger. Thanks for sharing my man.
Lol yea it was a lot of meat in there.
Feel free to modify. However, traditionally smoked sausage, ham hocks and pickled pork or used which is why I went my trifecta. lol
@@antlearn5030 Can't say you didn't get your protein lol
Great Recipe!!!
yesss!!!
Kenneth! Did you ever heard about the brazilian Feijoada? You should try. Big hug form Belém/Brasil
I have!! I plan on making a pot soon!!
Looks good.
Thanks!
@@ChefKennethTemple do you have a rotisserie recipe you can share?

@@ChefKennethTemple yes for chicken
Chef Temple do you have a black eye pea recipe?
Yes, I have a black-eyed pea fritter on here and a hopping john recipe on my site.
@@ChefKennethTemple Thanks Chef! Keep the content flowing...
What was your setting for the insta pot?
Shit, I've been using a spoon to eat mine. LOL, I'm out here in Denver, I'll have to go make some groceries and follow along
Come on over to team fork! 😂 Tag me when you make it!
I normally use a spoon but a fork would work. Looks delicious. So is your accent. 😎
Ayeeee!
Looks delicious 😋. A fork though? Yeahhh uhhhhh no. Lol
Yes, a fork! lol
Okay but pressure cook 2hrs on which pressure level? Low or high?
Less, normal or more? 🤷🏻♀️
Hey! Here’s the link to the full recipe kennethtemple.com/insta-pot-new-orleans-red-beans/
New Sub, Chef, Got the Fork order. One question: 2 hrs low or high pressure? High seems kinda a lot. Thanks!
Love the recipe. I noticed no pork, why? Personal preference? Thank you for the upload.
Sorry, I'm team spoon 😆
Shame 😂😂😂
I'm trying this today for the first time. However, my instapot is only 6 quart. Scared, so I hope this works.
Make half of the recipe so it all fits. I hope you enjoy it
@ChefKennethTemple Thanks for the response. I had already measured out all the ingredients and seasonings b4 I realized my pot was too small. I cooked it for an hour in the instapot, then transferred it all to my Dutch oven pot and finished it onto of the stove. It was amazing ingredients and so favorable. It's definitely a repeat. Thanks again.
Beef broth or water is better or same?
broth/stock always but the smoked turkey necks will make it's own broth while cooking.
Can I do this crockpot style?
More instant pot recipes please...
Thanks for the recipe, but I try and eat everything in a bowl with a spoon. Yes even some pastas. Guess I can't be trusted, but I'm still gonna steal the recipe and claim it as mine.
Don't steal, share. 😉
@@ChefKennethTemple I will "SHARE" it with my friends. Can i take credit still?
Why you aint put the seasoning in first?
Is that sizzalean. Is this a low fat situation sir.? Why did you put oil on the bacon? I’m from Thibodaux I have never seen this. Bet my skinny cousin would like this. To each their own.
I spent a lot of time in Thibodaux. Not sure what you mean by "sizzalean" but the oil helps the bacon crisp up faster. I think all of your cousins would like this dish. Give it a try and let me know.
Pressure cook on high or low for 2 hours ?
high
Love this i don’t eat pork. Where can i get beef bacon?
Depending on where you live what brand is available. I used Godshall's Beef Bacon, Cured Beef Plates for this one but when in New Orleans I use gwaltney beef bacon.
Looks great. If I cut all this down to fit in a 6 quart instant pot do I still go for two hours or should I cut that time down?
No, you still need to cook for 1 hour and 30 minutes to properly cook everything.
@@ChefKennethTemple where’s the recipe
Dadgummit! I've got to learn to eat my red beans and rice with a fork!! I don't want to be untrust worthy. 🙂
Huh Bruh😂😂😂... Good Video bruh
What is the amount of the final spice ie 1 tb pepper
You can find the full recipe at kennethtemple.com/insta-pot-new-orleans-red-beans/
Hi, can you spell the name of that sauce? Btw it looks delicious ima cook it Sunday for the family
Worcestershire!
So, you don't need to soak the beans overnight for the IP?
You don't need to soak them overnight in any cooking method. It'll take longer to cook but the IP does all the hard work.
I don’t understand why you didn’t do the sautée step in the Instant Pot on the sautée setting. You used an extra pan for no reason. More to wash. Thanks for your posting, looks great.
True, but you can't control the heat levels on sauté and I like to control that.
Where can you find beef bacon
Depending on where you live what brand is available. I used Godshall's Beef Bacon, Cured Beef Plates for this one but when in New Orleans I use Gwaltney beef bacon.
If you half the recipe, how would you alter the time? The same in the instant pot or half the time?
Hey! No, that time is needed to cook the beans all the way through.
Sorry one more question. Making them now super excited. I halved the recipe. I. The recipe it says 1.5 hours. In the video it says 2 hours. Which should I use?
For the record for anyone else, I halved the recipe and used the 6qt. I made sure an inch of water covered the contents and 1.5 hours was perfect! Thank you… it was yummy and perfect consistency
can I use regular bacon
Didn’t have bell peppers so I just used poblano, tastes great!
Oh really! Sounds like a great sub.
He sounds like a fine black man.❤
So pressure cooking red beans does not require soaking beans to eliminate gas?
Traditionally you don't have to soak them to cook them but adding a tablespoon or two of vinegar does the same trick
@@ChefKennethTemple Oh that's so good to know! Too many times I wanted some good ole red beans and rice but hadn't soaked the beans. So I know that all I need to do is add a tablespoon or two of vinegar!
Looks so good. Thought I was the only one to eat this with a fork. Lol
lol nope
Instant pot did not burn?
Nope!
Would I be able to sauté my veggies if my instant pot has a sauté button?
I did last night!! Turned out fantastic!
Yep!
❤❤
I need an intsa pot recipe for smothered liver and onions
I'll see what I can do.
@@ChefKennethTemple Thank you so much ❤️
Did you have to soak the beans before cooking?
You do not. That's a benefit of using the pressure cooker.
@@ChefKennethTemple bet!!! Thanks man
On more high?
