  • When you are learning to play hockey as a beginner, there are a lot of rules to remember. Besides offsides, hockey icing may be one of the most important rules you will need to know before your first game.

Thanks! I always get nervous about getting it right when it's actual rules, so that means a lot :)

It used to be that if a player from the team that is icing the puck could outskate the opponent's and touch the puck first, the icing call would be waved off. Safety and waste of time were the biggest reasons for the rule change. Good work!

There are all different rules for the NHL, etc. (mainly called "hybrid icing") but I like to stick with our rec league icing rules, it's much simpler.

Thank you. Great video! In my area in Massachusetts all of the men's leagues use the far end blue line as icing line. So, as long as you cross your blue line you are good to send it in. I would prefer they use the center line.

Oh interesting! There are leagues that do it differently. I have always played under USA Hockey leagues, so we have always used the red line. I wonder what their reasoning is for that?
