At 01:57, that is my friend Alan Thomas #19 next to David Clinton, that shot taken at West Valley Teen Center in Reseda. When I started racing bmx back in 1973, Ricks Bike Shop was the team everyone wanted to join. I knew Rick back then along with Ernie A. and most of the racers back then. Mark Pippin, Stuart Imlay and Alan were some of my close friends back then. I still have that photograph of all of us in Arizona right after the nationals.
I moved from the states back in 1977 to the Netherlands and never saw those guys again until around 2005. Hell, I even talked to Mark on the phone and he gave me 330 reasons to keep in touch but I was heavily into drugs ,etc at the time and screwed that all up (sorry Mark). I tried to reconnect, even finding out that Perry Kramer still had the Bicycle Motocross News with me on the cover (March 1976 volume 3, photo was taken by Russ Okawa (RIP my friend) that I signed for him, lol.
I watch all this videos from "How We Roll" and all I can do is remember those great days racing, riding with all my friends. It's like the time when Alan and I drove to Bakersfield to race, driving in his MG, top down, we're wearing our helmets, goggles and Jofa's, it was freaking cold that morning going up the grapevine, laughing all the way. I could tell you about the time I made Suzanne the scorekeeper puke at Yarnell or the time we raced one night behind this Elks Club(?) with flashlights dangling from rope lighting the track, so many memories and I screwed it all up.
