I was nothing like my cousin Mike salido I’d bend pedals and rims that’s why we ran tuff wheels and aluminum pedals at that time
This brings back some great memories when I raced in Tucson in the late 70s and early 80s. I still remember the "downhill" track we raced on at Randolph / Reid Park. Mr Lee was at the start gate and his son raced a GT, man was he fast. I wish I still had my ABA number plate from back then. If only my GJS A-Frame hadn't been lost in the moves from city to city my parents did. I'd love to have the frame today. What a great era!
Bob Osborn Mito da minha época
67 I was 5 years old first ride was schwinn short frame small ape hangers( baby bars). Glendora. S.C. was the best times there were no pros it was a free for all. 😅
wow, i got a GT 1996 chrome spoke wheels performer. might ride it
It’s not true that all the parts were made in Chicago. Frames and wheels were made in the factory in Chicago but some hubs, brakes, and pedals were made in Europe.
Wow, I can’t believe after all these years Bob Osborn still remembered me. I am “that little kid named CRITTER of the Arvada Street Gang “ @ 7:50. I was only 7 years old, but I remember I made a good impression with him cause I showed up at the dirt lot in Entradaro Park with two shovels and a garden hoe. Those were good times to be a kid. No stress, no smartphones and rainbows weren’t gay. Mr. Osborn, I hope you’re doing well. Where is R. L. Osborn? C. Reiman ... Still living on Arvada
I grew up riding/racing in other places. But then I moved to Redondo Beach then to Entradero Ave. and I'd always go shoot hoops at that park.
Gary,não mais gt😮😮😮
Land locked Midwest kid here... We were doing things then as well. The West Coast of course got most of the publicity which is deserved of course. It was a magical time really. I can still remember the feeling of it all.
L E G E N D A R Y.....the GT bicycle was the Mercedes Benz of bikes if you were into bikes in the 80s and 90s if you showed up with a GT or Dyno you were Admired Respected and Envied all at the same time my favorite GT was the 1993 GT performer black with the red and yellow GT performer graphics and the 3 spoke black GT mags with the black and peanut butter wall tires my other favorite was the 1993 Dyno Compe in purple with the black 3 spoke GT mags and black and peanut butter tires
I was born in East L.A. in 1968, I bought my BMX bike from my friend in 6th grade, a Mongoose, had an ABA membership and raced at Monrovia. The only name I knew of any of these "pioneers" was Bob Osborn. I subscribed to Bicycle Moto X Action and I remember R.L Osborn and Mike Buff as well as the many factory riders like Stu Thompson, Bob Haro, Harry Leary, Tinker Juarez, Toby Henderson, etc.
Rad
Lived in Venice Beach. Raced palms park wrvey week Thursday night or Tuesday cant remember finally got a motorcycle my first race was hope town. I was hokked Tuesday night ascot Fridays indain dunes. Sunday Saddleback or Danza. Still riding at 64 04 kx 500😊

Harry

GT bikes are awesome all I ride
For anybody who never raced Corona, ca. It was a down hill monster. Fast track, long track. Tore it up mid 80s ..it had a dirt oval for cas n flat track.. and a huge MX track.
Anyone confirm if FS stamped frames where tawain made
My Grand Son now rides the same Mongoose I rode in 1976. Sure, I could've bought him a new bike yet where's the fun in that? And when he turns 16, he gets my 1978 Camero I bought for $600 in 1981.
Simpler times.
I just got back in to BMX racing this year. I’m now 48 years old. Last time I had raced was in ‘91. The tracks of today are far more technical and aggressive than yesteryears, which is great. I’m having a blast!
it is not a 1976 mongoose its a 1981 or 1982 mongoose it should have a breace on the seat tube and down tube
I raced escape country That was a fun track.
Wow, had no idea this was on CZcams. What a scene!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Indian dunes was simply the best place to ride and race
Wonderful video. You can see why mountain bikes came on the scene after seeing them race on downhill tracks hey!
This is price less history! So great to see it documented! ✌
I use to always ride my bike in the church parking lot. Lol. I think I still got rocks in my knees, you couldn't keep me down!
It is sad how far Schwinn has fallen today, they are no better than a huffy today
It is a shame what has become of Schwinn today, in 1970 we were building our own bikes from Schwinn frames at age 10 I respoked my own rims drilling out my hubs and putting in thicker spokes
My friends and I did the same thing you did at the same time as you. We made tracks in any vacant field in Anaheim with our stingrays with 10 speed seats and our old dirt bike handle bars. We never knew about escape country BMX track. The first BMX track we knew of was Coal Canyon BMX track in Yorba Linda. One of the guys that was part of our gang was Jerry Welchel. He went on to racing trucks and buggy’s. We had a blast!
The tracks where way better back then
i'm 62 and we rode our bikes everyday and in the 70's we had to build our BMX bikes, There were no fat kids in the 70's
I'm a fan of your work Mr Turner !
This brings me back I was welding there in HB and Santa ana😊
A little later in time, about 1979-1982 I raced Redline Proline. Still can’t walk into a bike shop without thinking back to my first Redline. That part of growing up. Too bad you can’t relive our childhoods.
I live in Long Beach, does anyone know exactly where B.U.M.S. was, or BUMS #2 in Bixby?
7th and Bellflower. Long gone now.
I prefer old-school race bikes and the style everyone had!
Lived in so central LA.. we raced at encino velodrome..73 ish? 1x in van nuys somewhere
I just ran over pop cans and with knobby tires it would catch on the tire and wedge between the frame bars and would sound like a loud dirtbike engine.
Glory to Gary Turner! Idol! He is! I’m 17 years old and I very love mountain bike riding, service and history. Month ago I read Robert Penn book about bicycles. Hello from Ukraine! 🇺🇦
Thank you Gary Turner. Thank you for my sponsorship with you it was a true blessing. I was not a full factory Rider but I was a car sponsored Rider. And with that and DK I have my best days
I remember those crappy bikes so heavy and slow you have to peddle your ass off
Let's turn to God Theseasonorg explains the whole Bible God bless.
Absolutely killer! I didn't have welding skills, so I just used a broomstick and a can of spray paint to fashion a top tube on my old Schwinn. Hopefully some rebellious kids look at this and get that fire in their bellies. God knows this generation needs them.
1983 Galston, Ayrshire, Scotland. Had a fantastic table top. Big sweeping berms. Then in 84 Hurlford track opens. Cowabunga.
The Goods in Barstow and other tracks near Edwards AFB in So Cal between 80-82ish. czcams.com/video/h0B2jU59otU/video.html
This a old video. Wow!!
Haha no helmets. The good old days and they all still lived through it all!
