  • Did you know that the late beloved crooner Andy Williams got a head start in his career thanks to a much older romantic partner and that some people speculate that he may have had an extramarital affair with Robert Kennedy’s widow during the 1970s? Andy Williams was a celebrity figure that was best known to the world as a pop-music crooner. The crooner’s biggest hit during his lifetime was the song “Moon River”, which was popularized via the 1961 film Breakfast at Tiffany’s. While Andy’s appearance in the world of popular music was squeaky clean, his personal life suggested that there might have been some darker shades to the man than the public was aware of. One of the more notorious legends involving the crooner suggests that he may have been involved in an extramarital affair with the late Robert Kennedy’s wife during the early 1970s.

Andy Williams started out his performing career as a child. During his childhood years, Andy’s father forced Andy and his two older brothers to become professional singers. Of the three brothers, Andy was the only one who went on to find real success in the world of popular music. Andy’s success came after the burgeoning star started up a relationship with a female comedian by the name of Kay Thompson. Kay used her show-business connections to secure Andy some airtime on late-night television, and the rest is history!
Andy was married two times, though people seem less interested in the late crooner’s marriages than they are in the possible romantic relationship that he had with Robert Kennedy’s widow. Andy and first wife Claudine Longet were close friends with Robert and his wife, and Andy and Robert’s widow were spotted out in public a lot following the senator’s death. Join Facts Verse as we explore how Andy Williams got a little too close to the Kennedy family.

I grew up watching the Andy Williams Show as a weekly special event in our home. To this day I love Andy William’s music. I was fortunate enough to see him in person performing at a huge venue in Minneapolis during the 70’s. Claudine is French, her name is pronounced with a ‘je’ sound at the end. I have never heard anything about Andy feeling his father pushed the boys into music and pressured them to perform. As a matter of fact he frequently said he was close to his parents and enjoyed having his brothers on his show when he could convince them to join him. All but one had retired from the business. I thank you for not going into the incident about Claudine’s boyfriend post her divorce. Andy supported her through the incident. I like to believe Andy was just a good man who supported his friends and family to the best of his ability. We all know he was incredibly talented and gifted with a voice one couldn’t forget.

Always loved listening to Andy Williams and watching his television show where he would sing with a wide variety of other talented artist. Whatever his personal life was, it was none of my business, I just enjoyed the songs he sang and his mellow nice guy personality. Even though Andy is in a forever box, every Christmas we here his famous Christmas song "It's the most wonderful time of the year" and that always puts Christmas cheer in my heart to be happy and grateful that I made it another year to hear that Andy Williams Christmas song.

Andy Williams is one of my favourite vocalists of all time. My mother was old enough to be my grandmother, and I seem to have skipped over 99% of rock and roll. I have a powerful, dynamic low baritone-bass with an extraordinary range (though I urgently require training!), so my voice fits the melodious songs of Mr. Williams, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Tony Bennett, Perry Como, Robert Goulet, et al.
I similarly enjoy listening to and performing classical songs, and the tunes from stage and screen. The Theme from Love Story is my favour- ite song of all time. I love "Impossible Dream", The Theme from Romeo and Juliet" (1968?), "Evermore" from Beauty and the Beast (live action, 2017), and hundreds more!
This is how deeply Mr. Williams touches my life!

Claudine Longet is Franco-American, and began life in Paris, a French girl with a French last name that is pronounced, roughly, “lawn-JAY.” The “e” is pronounced like a long”a,” and the “t” is not pronounced at all.
In spring 1976, she shot and and killed her boyfriend, professional skier Spider Sabich, at his home in Aspen. She said it was an accidental shooting. At trial, she was found guilty of negligent homicide, and was sentenced to a small fine and 30 days in jail. She subsequently married her defense attorney and at last report still lives quietly in Aspen. Although divorced from Longet, Williams publicly supported her, paid for defense and escorted her to and from the courthouse every day of the trial.
