Thanks for stitching along everyone! If you’d like your leaf to be a part of the finished project, please get in contact via the form here: www.maggiehenselbrown.com/community-lacemaking and I’ll send you the next steps. 💥💕💥
I’m so thrilled to have found this! I’m working on several sewing projects right now so I probably won’t be able to do this until winter (northern hemisphere winter) but I’ll keep checking back to see if I can contribute to the project. I’d LOVE more tutorials. I might even subscribe to a Patreon if you have one.
Needle lace has fascinated me since I first saw it in DMC's Encyclopedia of Needlework by Therese de Dillmont. I guess that's about 35-maybe even 40-years ago now. 😱 I've always wanted to try it, and now maybe I will!
I am starting my first leaf now. Oct 11, 23. I had a larger piece of linen to fold, so I folded it into three. Resulting in 6 layers. I drew my leaf on paper & taped it. I turned it over, adding a blank paper, taped it down, and I can mark my design when i'm ready with a fine permanent marker or just an impression with a stiletto. I have been careful not to stitch my contrasting thread outlines deeper than 4 layers. This way, I have two sides to work lace on. The contrasting thread colour will be a different contrasting colour so no snipping of the wrong holding stitches as each piece of lace is finished. I hope to send you a picture of my leaf and flower petal sometime. I have so many ufo's but winter is coming. If I'm cold I cosy on my sofa.
This is fantastic, thank you. Sorry I missed the boat on this one - hope the putting together of them goes well! I would love to see the process and how you put the pieces together ❤
Hi Jane! Probably not for this project, as I’ll be doing all the background stitches myself once people have sent their leaves in. But I’ll document it, so you can watch along, and I’ll definitely post some more instructional videos when the piece is finished! Xx
Hi Maggie. I was watching Mathew Gnagy and he does some ‘wrapping’ in some areas. Do you do this with some of your work as well, or is it a different kind of lace?

How long does it take you for one leaf? This looks very time consuming. I am sure it is an enjoyable craft though.
Are you still doing this project?
