Excellent tutorial, a good exercise in listening for resonance! A small clarification on something you said around 2:45 : the FF Pro C-2 "hold" parameter prolongs any peak *reduction* before release of compression. The "leave the initial phase of the sound" (transient) unaffected is, as usual, dialed in with the attack parameter. Cheers!
Piano is always tricky! Good tips. Nudging the individual midi notes so they don't ALL play at 'exactly' the same time makes a BIG difference as well to get a more realistic part. The F9 Piano for Kontakt is an amazing club piano.
Agree 100%. People are so used to quantizing everything, that they forget that having un-quantized notes makes things sound bigger by default. And even better, duplicate your piano track, apply a different "humanize" setting to the original one, and use that to add stereo imaging. It's better, in my opinion, than using a plugin. And yes, F9 is awesome! I have a lot of their stuff and most of them are just great stating points, the piano being one of them
you're really good at almost everything, please make a tutorial on sound design in serum. that would be really helpful :) (and please make any dubstep because i've never seen you get in that genre)
Yo! Whats good BIG Z, hope your enjoying your time off, i have cleared lol your youtube vids, and even though i am a producer of 10 years, Your video's have refreshed and opened up many new avenues for my producions, So a massive thanks for what you do, Hope your well and to see you in another video soon, Take care Phil :-)
great video. i appreciate how you explain what each step is doing in the processing chain. One question: why do you put the reverb before the delay? i thought it was the other way around
Useful video. But why add top end to the Kontakt Piano with Saturn and then in turn dial away all highs to "not compete with the M1" ??? Doesn't make sense dude ;)
Dude this was a kick ass video. I did something similar with the M1 Piano and one of the Roland XP-30 pianos that sounded absolutely dope. I'm tempted to recreate that sound.
Hey man, was wondering if you have ever considered making techno? I know this isn’t really your usual style but would like to see that if you were up for it! keep up the vids you are sick ✌🏻
Can you PLEASE make a video about FREE versions of plugins like all the fabfilter and valhalla stuff you work with? Cause I cant spend that much money...
Great tips 🔥 The compressor for the maverick made a HUGE difference! Could you explain when to use the dynamic EQ over the standard EQ (and vice versa) though?
Here's a simple example that hopefully will help: when you have a piano, for example, you will be playing chords with various notes. Then you have chord progressions, which will change each chord. That's the basic stuff. Now if you apply a static EQ and remove, let's say 3dB at 6.2kHz (that's a G8 note), even when you change a chord, the next chord will have the 6.2kHz removed as well, but maybe that chord needs that frequency/note, because it's part of the chord itself. By doing that, you are attenuating a certain note that shouldn't be attenuated. So when you apply a Dynamic EQ, you are only removing or boosting certain frequencies depending on how much that particular note or chord is "rich" on that particular frequency. Maybe on chord 1 the 6.2kHz is harsh, but on chord 2, it's not, so it wouldn't make sense that you apply a static EQ, because you would be making it sound different without it being necessary. Hope it makes sense
Hi Go to the [Programme Tab] at the top of the [M1] Select the [Drop Down Menu] next to [IFX] (Should be highlighted green) Select [Load] Select [Card] Select [Card 1] You should see [Piano 16] second down in the list. Then follow Big Z's instructions (Y)
Hey! I was wondering if you had bought some plugins when you started producing. Cause I'm a beginner and watching tutorials and masterclasses make me feel like I could really use some extra plugins like serum, nexus, kontakt, etc... For example, I feel like the pianos (the stock ones in fl studio signature) don't sound really well. Could you give me some advice? I would realllly appreciate it! ;-)
Don't get tricked by the idea that stock plugins suck. YOU make the music, not the plugins (or your speakers, or your DAW). If you are a beginner, it's natural that you hear certain sounds and think they are bad. It takes time to learn. Yes, it's easy to have a plugin where you click a button and your source sounds amazing, but what are you learning with that? Nothing. If you learn the foundation with stock plugins, you will become a better producer/beat maker. My challenge: try to copy his piano chord progression into FL. Find a way to download this video and edit the audio where the M1 piano is playing and import that into FL. Now you have a reference. Open the FL piano and try to EQ and compress your piano until it sounds similar to his. Hope it makes sense. Practice practice practice
@@iamdannywyatt Thank you for your answer! I have another question: how do your hear 'bad' frequencies which have to be cut out with EQ?? I'm trying to but I can't figure out why people cut out some very specific frequencies
@@maximevanraemdonck1712 its totally subjective, whatever sounds good to you. and if you arnt sure right now thats ok, you will become better at this the more time you spend making music. also dont get too caught up in using eq sweeps to look for 'bad' frequencies, if you boost any band high enough it will more than likely sound bad, so only cut things when they are clashing with another or just dont sound nice to you.
again, its kind of subjective. if you have elements that are fighting with each other within in a mix because they are occupying the same frequency range it will create different effects depending on where in the spectrum the clashing is happening. But basically you will not be able to hear your element clearly or get it to stand out in your mix because there is too much going on. just keep listening, eventually when it happens you will know. learn to trust your ears. Over time they will become more discerning also.
@@itsleejames I know about them, I have them off always, I think it’s to do with chord inversions, some sound better than other, also to do with octaves, some have more nasty frequencies, basically you need to structure your chords correctly, but for some reason I just can’t get it right, but thank you so much for your tip :)
There's no "better" in music. It depends on what you are trying to achieve. If you put the delay before the reverb, the delay will be softer, because the reverb will make each repetition, "dilute" if you know what I mean. When you're working on your music, try both approached and hear what sounds better
This is good. I'd stopped using pianos in my tracks because they always sounded trash 😂
Fr! I started using Rhodes as a substitute lol.
I like how chill you are. Also very informative. Cheers!

Which m1 preset did you use? I can’t find one without reverb or release but this one sounds good!
Yo, that piano is insane!!!

My Pianos always used to sound strange and outcasted, but this video really helped me.
Wow!! 🔥🔥🔥
You have amazing skills, dude.
You make with your lesson about sound design everything understandable.
Hopefully more from this stuff . Keep going. Many thanks.
God damn you really know what your doing. Thanks big Z!

Yo could you please do a remake of Flumes Tennis Court? I'd really appreciate it! I've trying for almost a year haha

dope vid! delay before reverb tho ;)

@Nate Zutz I’m from Denmark and we have a different time zone here so I think that’s why :)
@Nate Zutz Cheers mate
11:12 what short cut key did you press for that dynamic EQ bro ? :D ..-windows heads out here ...lost :D
Great tutorial. I wish soothe wasn't so expensive
Sweet.
Yasssss!
Not sure how you do it, my chord sound so trash from the start, (to many resonant frequencies) yours are so clean without any processing?
Check for insert effects within the plugin. If your using M1 turn them off as they sound terrible.

How did you freeze that mix knob on the valhalla vintage verb?
you click on the word mix
@@HowardCharlesUK thank you!
@@krabby1288 if you don't freeze it, it changes when you change the preset. If you fixate it, it'll stay the same ratio when you flip through presets.
