It's really not that hard to play, just lots of feel and remembering simple patterns. To be fair, it took me like 2 months to learn all the rythyms and parts on Rock Island. But once you sort of get the vision of the band it's easier to figure stuff out.
Theresa Dawson yeah! i can definitely hear the ties with ludus now that you said that, I meant how they slowed down this version from their studio version though haha
I don't even understand how a band comes to this decision either. I've played music with plenty of people personally and the idea of playing a song a .75x speed has never came up. They really do sit and wonder what is possible with their method of expression, this is the whole reason why bands like Palm create a space in my heart, they go where other bands don't
@@rallokkcaz I got pointed towards the band Women from this comment section and I would definitely recommend them, although they too split up. A few members went on to form Preoccupations and the lead singer has a solo project now under the name Cindy Lee.
Horse Jumper of Love do the same thing. Pretty fun to hear Palm play their songs faster, too! I think their audiotree version of composite is slightly faster than the album version, though I could be misremembering
Composite is my favourite Palm track by a mile. I remember hearing you guys for the first time on Audiotree and loving that song but being so bummed it wasn't on Shadow Expert . So happy you have an LP coming out soon and it's going to be on it!
Just like that, they sucked me into their world. Awesome band never heard anything like this before, I was so confused at first but something about it had me craving for more. Beautiful sounds
I love them for the sole fact the guitarist uses a midi pickup playing a steel drum sound, seriously who else does that, they are very tight and not even math rock, id call it noise pop
The only similar thing I can think of is on the tour for their album The Ark Work the frontman for Liturgy used a MIDI pickup to play fanfare type horn sounds with his guitar but yeah like in general it's a weirdly rare thing I wish more folks would try out.
Great stuff! Saw that you're playing Durham, NC, and Washington, DC, but not Virginia.... hope you can swing by our state in 2023. Know The Road is tough. Keep up the great music...
Was washing dishes & listening to Trading Basics last nite, thinking male vox sounds like a combination between Avey's vox and Panda's vox. Some Avey yelps and some Panda articulation.
Bands like this must be appreciated and protected at all costs!!!
Don't spread the word.
My new favorite band thanks to slackerVK
guy shreds the guitar
Yeah slackerVK!
Haha I was going to say that too
Hey that guy’s channel is awesome and he’s good at guitar
Playing in this band would be like taking the SAT test every day.

frfr, that Walkie Talkie chord that she hits has been stuck in my head since the first time i heard it. they're masters at their craft
Darrien Day you post on bands I like so often that I recognize your profile picture instantly lmao
haha That means we've both got the same awesome taste in music, friend !!
On a bad trip you would hate it to have a loop of one of palms chords. Im just sayin, it was freaky.
Eve is God
pretty fucking sweet. Looks like they haven't slept in a month. neither would I if those melodies were running through my head.
dog milk is like surfing a phat juicy wave in a sea of melting plastic 10/10
Best "Palm description" I can come up with: a cross between Women and Animal Collective, but not necessarily in the way that you might think.
I get Women + Animal Collective + This Heat. Maybe a sprinkle of Tera Melos just because.
yeehaw
no love for Swirlies?
cool to see this because that's how I've always tried to describe them and nobody seems to know wth I'm talking about
That's how I feel man, like mathy animal collective
The way they slowed down shadow expert but still kept it so contained and tight is astounding, they are the future. Best releases of 2017
I thought my brain was broke for a minute baha
they play like Ludus used to, changing tempo was part of that whole thing
Theresa Dawson yeah! i can definitely hear the ties with ludus now that you said that, I meant how they slowed down this version from their studio version though haha

i love them and wish them all the luck in the world
THIS HEAT
Zak Mullard that's actually a really apt comparison
especially that part towards the end of Composite. instantly reminds me of Paper Hats by This Heat. give it a listen. love their homage to it
i love hearing this rendition of shadow expert. my favorite band!!
Probably some of the best live music around right now. If you wanna get your mind shred to pieces that is.
Caught them at Hopscotch and was blown away-instantly looked up their music to find out they are disbanding… ;(
@@howcliche I know what a shame, I hope to see other bands follow in this style and approach to heavy/complex music.
@@rallokkcaz I got pointed towards the band Women from this comment section and I would definitely recommend them, although they too split up. A few members went on to form Preoccupations and the lead singer has a solo project now under the name Cindy Lee.
seriously the best active band right now. no question in my mind
One of the best live acts I’ve ever caught
This version of Composite is other worldly. Palm has become one of my favorite bands so quickly.
god what a great band
They have done such a good job of capturing their recorded sound in this live performance !
Discovered this band on Spotify, such a unique sound I had to dig deeper into their catalogue and I'm glad I did
Nice, first thought that came to mind was Thinking Fellars Union Local 282. Nice tunes.
Same
It’s all so perfectly thought out it almost makes me mad
One of the best bands out right now
the only band i know who plays their songs SLOWER live
Horse Jumper of Love do the same thing. Pretty fun to hear Palm play their songs faster, too! I think their audiotree version of composite is slightly faster than the album version, though I could be misremembering
Wow great I completely missed or have forgotten that I've seen this.
Loved them since their first performance. This seems more refined.
I'll light a candle to the goddess of Serendipity for I stumbled upon this amazing band.
Great concert! The music is compelling, energetic; it's generous. It gives a lot to the listener. Thanks so much.
Composite is my favourite Palm track by a mile. I remember hearing you guys for the first time on Audiotree and loving that song but being so bummed it wasn't on Shadow Expert
.
So happy you have an LP coming out soon and it's going to be on it!
Egg in A Frame is a very super close second best track. But yes I agree.
i like Dog Milk more but Composite is really good as well
15:29-15:35 is just amazing. they pull this whacky shit off so effortlessly. what a blessing this band is.
Composite is gonna be a hit!
Yea...wow, its got such a massive sound to it with those staccato strums. Love it :D
I come back here for Composite at least once a day!
art school space fusion, amazing
Just like that, they sucked me into their world. Awesome band never heard anything like this before, I was so confused at first but something about it had me craving for more. Beautiful sounds
Women's influence was immense on the modern post punk scene.
Check out this heat unless you already have. They influenced women big time. I can also hear animal collectives influence in palms music.
Stoked to see them with Deerhoof in Portsmouth in a few months!
Yessssss never heard this band and I'm in love
Im glad to do that acid yesterday, what a great band i found
the drummer is messed. so good. dog milk is a real trip
I love them for the sole fact the guitarist uses a midi pickup playing a steel drum sound, seriously who else does that, they are very tight and not even math rock, id call it noise pop
damn
Bro dat shit mathy
The only similar thing I can think of is on the tour for their album The Ark Work the frontman for Liturgy used a MIDI pickup to play fanfare type horn sounds with his guitar but yeah like in general it's a weirdly rare thing I wish more folks would try out.
I think it's mathy, and I don't really consider 'math rock' to be a bad thing like how everyone else on the internet does.
Pretty sure Palm is my new favorite band!
Oo 2nd jam goes from Battles to Beatles real quick
this is one of the greatest bands ive heard so far
The bassist is holding it down
TheOtherSun and the drummer
Gerry is God
So hyped for their new album
I think I am in love with the guy singing
And good bass skill from DrDisrespect
lmao. good one
Dad Beefheart and Mom Fripp would be proud
Wow this is so good. It reminds
of us Women with a hint of the Beach Boys. Great sound bruhs.
also: This Heat
Great stuff! Saw that you're playing Durham, NC, and Washington, DC, but not Virginia.... hope you can swing by our state in 2023. Know The Road is tough. Keep up the great music...
Bass and drummer holding it fucking down, vocals are legit, and rhythm guitar is hot in my book.
Well that's one of the best things I've seen in a long while.
Simply wonderful
intriguant, efficace et puissant !!!!!
male vocalist sounds a lot like Panda Bear or Brian Wilson
i didn't believe that until the second song, i like their vibe
KASRA DONT FORGET IT
Was washing dishes & listening to Trading Basics last nite, thinking male vox sounds like a combination between Avey's vox and Panda's vox. Some Avey yelps and some Panda articulation.
Weird. Sounds like mid-era Yes... on a cassette... whilst be slowly devoured by the tape deck.
great description. I would add that some weird sauce or gravy dripped on the tape deck, causing this weird sound.
14:32 This tiny bit of guitar here is somewhere in 'Gates Of Delrium' at some point.
Perfect description
Its absolutly crazy that all of them are self taught
Going to see them when they open for Real Estate on 10 April 2020 in Chicago! Looking forward to it!
No you're not
The drummer is so twitchy from playing this kind of music... its taking a toll on his mind xD
i'm hearing beach boys vocal on this band, salute!
Gyda Aulia I hear Animal Collective
cool i'm not the only one !
QuebecClassicRock only one to hear what?
Yeah, Beach Boys with mustard or something like that. :)
@@thomasberry8012he Ça me dit rien pourquoi. Peut-être j'espère, ça serait bon qui?
It's just way too good.
It hurts.
an avant garde early foals
Would love to know more about the gear that is used to create these sounds. Especially guitar pedals and what they run their vocals through
I love PALM!!!!!
*OMG I LOVE THIS SO MUCH*
Cheers from Mexico. ;3
*RIFAN BIEN CABRON*
soooo good!
This was amazing!
why would anyone dislike this??? :(
finally
kexp you guys been sleeping on this upload
you guys are hacks
I LOVE YOU PALM
favorite!
Mind blowing stuff. Transmogrified pop.
Very nice! Reminds me of some kind of alternate universe Beach Boys.
I know it's 2 guitars but sounds like 5. So good.
5:48 I love her
MY HEART IS HAPPY AGAIN
Love it
Some parts remind me a lot of Grizzly Bear. Interesting sound
omg, their guitar sound
Finally some alternative/indie band without the ultra-trendy jaguars or jazzmasters! Nice to see some Strats once in a while! + great playing!
Yeah, I like it.
ae porra sonzera do krlh
theymusta heard This Heat a few times
Grupazo ! Really good band!
Oorale carnalitos
does someone know what effect he has on his vocal mic and guitar.
Great
Man oh man.
На мой взгляд, очень сыграная команда с очень необычным звуком. Хороши.
love ya
OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD
FINALLY.
love the muted guitar sweeps
2 sticks for Harry Potter. Nice work
wth
and a wonderfull smile for the guitarist
Dang they are PRECISE.
yes
Hugo on the drums is god-like.
Sounds like Battles and Don Cabellero started creating avant pop.
Jay F I like your profile picture
Squire
7:34 als je bij vincent repeteert mag je als je voor drie uur hebt gereserveerd mag je gewoon nog doorgaan als er niemand na je komt.
Carina Nebula Oh de waarheid
Math Rock is back?! A M A Z I N G
Palm pleases the people, yea
I wasn't trying to be sarcastic BTW, I love math rock.
this isnt math rock
This IS Math Rock
even they dont consider it math rock
😵💫💥
Blew her headphones clean off!
Now You're Finished! Didn't even faze her
Second song is sooooooo Brian Wilson
I don't like, I love.
