In Markkanen and Kessler they literally found two guys who could step in and fill D Mitch and Gobert's shoes. Kessler as their next elite rim protector and Markkanen as their new franchise scorer. And just for kicks they also got a bunch of really good role guys and about ten first rounders 🤯 What a deal.

What happened to LM in Chicago is what happens to certain kinds of players all the time in the NBA. They get stuck playing in dysfunctional systems with selfish teammates and their stats reflect that fact. Then put him in Utah and assert his talent properly and you see him flourish. He wasn't really the most improved player because this is who he was all along.

The thing is, the reason Markkannen broke out this year isn’t because he has opportunities on a new team, it is because over the summer he was the first option for Finland in Eurobasket, which gave him an enormous confidence boost. As a Finnish fan there was no doubt in my mind that he could do this some day. It was all about finding a system where he can do a lot of different stuff offensively as well as finding the confidence to be a bit more selfish as a a go-to guy. Finnish players are traditionally too unselfish and Lauri was a prime example with the Bulls and Cavs. He needed the coach to force feed him the ball to be aggressive (like the Finnish national team does) and he finally found it in Utah.

On Lauri’s end of things, the big question is obviously will he be better significantly or worse significantly. Either or says to me that they’re putting all their chips on him. Last year it seemed like the blue print was going to be the same as Boston. Four out of five starters who are all evenly matched and able to pick up slack for each other. This team will be better cuz they have an agile shot blocker that in the future will be able to do it all. Maybe even shoot the 3 above 35%.

this is probably one of the funniest trades of all time. Clearly designed to allow the jazz to tank and hopefully land Victor or worse case Scoot. Instead, they finished in limbo. Not low enough to truly gain an advantage in the lottery and not high enough for the playoffs or play in. But with three first rounds picks used in the most recent draft, Lauri playing like an all-star and at the very least a rookie center poised to be a force in the paint. The Jazz might actually come out of this in a good spot for years to come.

  • @finnishview2933

All Lauri ever needed was good coach who use him right way. We have seen how good he was in Finnish national team. Now Hardy, who is great coach, use him the way he should be used and results was showing last season. Without injuries, next season is even better when there is not as much mid season trades like last year. Btw, even when guards was worse after trades Lauri average even higher points end of the season, over 28 points. He may very well be over 30 guy next season. Depends how much they use him. Utah have now some serious improvement and maybe other people take more shots and Lauri take less. But effiency will be there. And Jazz will take big step forward. It prob are not enough win multiple playoff series but depend how they finish in regular season, they may win one or two. But season after that, they wil be chip contender.

LA Lakers will offer Markkanen a maxdeal 5 years x 50 mill=250 mill. What will Jazz offer?

They can make offer earlier but a bit lower value. Lauri has sayed that he has allready enough money and as a Finn Utah is nice place. He also said that now he only cares to win a ring.

      TF are you talking about?
The Lakers don't have any cap space & Utah has Bird Rights + the ability to pay him more than any other team in the NBA.

Yeah, but you forget the fact that he was just better than most people won the jazz team. There were players better than him on the Cavaliers actually the Cavaliers coaches, who unlocked him as a small forward.

Markkanen > Mitchel. Danny Ainge fleeced the Timberwolves and the Cavs. I do however really appreciated Gobert, but Mitchell turned into a Russell Westbrook type of a player. Mitchell will never win an NBA championship unless he's older and comes of the bench.

@@daemon816 They made basketball less physical so european players could compete. They need to market basketball to a wider fanbase so they wanted more diversity in the nba. It's hard to promote the nba when it was %85 black.
