I have the Yam COS 14x6 1/2 cost $280 at Derringers Adelaide at the time, Has New emporer on top. Tuning bottom head not too tight but top head high tune. Man you should hear this thing. I have a Lud/blk magic sounds very similar to it ,and the pearl sensitone I had. They are very under rated, You don't have to spend heaps on a snare these days. Yours sounded like a pearl jupiter I had once . Nice. Yam do some good snares. great vid.
One of my all time favourite snares is my Pearl Free floater from back in the 90's I got for $350, besides it's sentimental value it's a great drum and still used regularly.
I got one of these off eBay a little bit after the lockdown started, but I haven't had a chance to play it yet due to house move issues... After hearing this vid, i'm glad I scored it!
Such a classy drum. Love that reverse bead on the yamaha snares. The matte finish looks great. Die cast hoops..just a great snare. Had a reverse cs dot on the one i tried out. Bangin snare.
I've been trying to find a JC signature snare for aboutb5 years now. Super lucky find man! What about the lugs though? I'm a Tama and DW player by choice and haven't owned Yamaha since my Stage Custom, so I'm not familiar with what you are speaking on.
There are couple up on some of the YAMAHA facebook pages but not sure if they are still there as they do go quick, they do pop up on all the usual sites like Reverb etc. The lugs yes they can be over time problematic but these versions are holding up, the early design would have a "splay" issue as the mounting point was in a different location. Also, under high tension they have tendency to break.
@I AM DRUMMER Thanks for the response my guy! I did some research after asking and I found the same things you are speaking on about the lugs. This wouldn't be a gigged snare so I'm not truly worried about it in all reality. I'll keep searching. If you ever are inclined to sell yours, hit me up.

@I AM DRUMMER I don't like supporting DW tbh. I think they are the most overpriced drums in the world. JC was one of my biggest influences as a teen drummer in the 90's. So it's more of a personal/collectors piece I want to own. My singles strokes would not be what they are without his influence, lol. Thanks again man!
I love the passion and variety of drums. But find my opinion is the same on most everything. The medium tuning sounds good. The others to me usually don’t. It’s a little repetitious with the same beat and approach every time. Maybe just sit down and improvise with the snares behind the set sometimes.
@@IAMDRUMMER Cool to see that you're using a Presonus Mixer for recording! I'm using a Studiolive III sx as an Interface with enough channels. I opened the can of worms with outboard preamps, though! There goes the money!

Ya, that medium tuning is sounding great. The aluminum hoops let it speak but without weird honks.
Hoops can make all the difference, JC designed one hell of a drum.

What type of Yamaha snare wires were on the JC snare originally? I can't quite remember.
Pretty sure they are just the standard yamaha wires, nothing overly special but also something they don't really supply anymore.

@I AM DRUMMER most likely, I will be ordering a Starphonic 14x6 SS or Aluminum soon. I'm currently addicted to that ringy overtone kind of sound.
