Awww, thanks for bringing back the memories. I used to have a D620 a couple years ago. I was always impressed by how cool it ran. I believe the max ram is 4GB, although the actual usable amount is around 3.25 GB I think; it's been a while though, I might be wrong on that. I will say that you can safely upgrade to a Core 2 Duo T7200, which should offer a boost in performance.
I know there are users that have mentioned it, but there's an easier way to install old Windows onto GPT drive. If there's nothing on it, just delete all partitions and install it onto blank drive, it will partition the drive automatically itself.
Vista was a huge jump from XP. Most people who ran into problems with Vista actually upgraded their PCs from XP. Mine however bought one that came with Vista (Compaq Presario CQ40) back in 2008, no problems apart from renaming/deleting files. That _may_ be the culprit behind Vista's hatred.
mahjhong and freecell are still my fave games. they've saved my neck when there's been a power outage as you didn't need to be online to play microsoft games back then. as for gaming? pretty dire. if you can get it to run anything, it'll be really old pc games from about the time when it was new - and only games that were for w98. WinMe was 'ok'. I like vista a lot. it's my offline workhorse for the things I need it for. for everything else, it's all w10/android/linux.
i have a similar speced gateway with 1gb ram. i also have a Lenovo ThinkPad from 2006 with 4gb ram and a core 2 duo. thinking about installing vista extended kernal
Install all updates to Windows Vista and that should upgrade you to SP2 and Internet Explorer 9 but honestly there's other browser than work better for older OS
I have an old Compaq laptop with Windows Vista pre-installed in it. I asked a computer repair man. He told me that Windows 10 could not be installed on it. Because of obsolete drivers. And, it's a waste of time.

You can use a VM to emulate your windows vista custom versions

@@Win7Revived i mean drivers would be a problem
but i think you fixed it
The windows 10 copy I got had the drivers. It was from microsoft
@@Win7Revived oh. The actual individual drivers themselves work with windows 10. Nice!
its not the hdd problem.you just need to change your bios from gpt to legacy mode .
If you want a way to properly browse the web on Windows Vista, the browser "Mypal" would be a good fit
24:28 btw Windows Live Movie Maker does connect to yt as of 2009
I think Vista was too modern for the hardware at the time it was released.

WIndows Vista must be the red head stepchild right now. 95, 98, XP are the cool kids.

5:58 if ur booting legacy, u a need master boot record partition table, gpt is only for newer systems that use uefi

Windows 7 is basicly rebranded Windows Vista, so basicly the same but looks a bit different
Windows 7 is just Windows Vista Service Pack 3, no doubt.
@@ChilledFlames8862 In my Humble opinion Windows 7 it's Windows Vista Lite SP3!
My D620 has 4gb ram and had Vista on it and I had no trouble and I liked Vista. I have windows 10 on it now but it is slow.
