Exactly. It spent three weeks at number one and was the longest running top 10 of 1980 in the U.S (15 weeks). Moreover, it was ranked #34 on Billboard's All-Time Top Songs, so logically it should have been on this list somewhere. I bet it outsold most of the songs on this list, including many of those mentioned in the top 10.
Interesting thing about Benny Mardones "Into The Night": On the U.S. charts it reached #11 in 1980. And then again in 1989 where it reached #22. This was because it was added to a "Where Are They Now?" show which got people interested in the song again.
As far as music goes, the 60s -70s were the best! For an overall decade it was 80s though. There were a lot of great 80s songs that were not on here also

Coming into the '80's I didn't know what to expect from the music industry, having been a big fan of the '70's, but as it turns out, the '80's carried a little momentum over from the 70's, reached its peak in '85, leveled out in '86, and began a steep decline by '87. These lists are not Billboard year end rankings! I have encyclopedic knowledge of Billboard charts and there are numerous errors in the rankings, not to mention Her Alpert's "Rise' was included on both the 1979 and 1980 year end rankings. Billboard does not allow a song to be included on two separate year end charts. They use a cut off date of early to mid-December for singles. If a song reached its peak position after cut-off date, the song will be on the following year's chart.
Billboard lets songs be on more than year end lists frequently. I also examine billboard charts and a great example of this is blinking lights. Blinding lights peaked at number one around spring 2020 and stuck around the 2020-2021 billboard charts. I think you got some information wrong. Happens to the best of us.

1980 was a great year. These songs were popular in 1980, but many (maybe even most) of them were released in 1979 and became popular in 1980. My fav years were 1977-1979, with a couple of good years on either side of those three years. I'm not sure whether these lists should be based on release date or year of popularity.
RFELEASED DATES IS WHAT COUNTS The decade they were wrote recorded and Released , people were enjoying at least half these songs in the summer and fall of 1979
Not all songs were made in 1979 some?... Yeah some were recorded in 1979 BUT released in 1980....1979 was sort of lame year for music too much DISCO which everybody was getting tired of...1980 was a better year in music than 1979.

Interesting thing about Benny Mardones "Into The Night": On the U.S. charts it reached #11 in 1980. And then again in 1989 where it reached #22. This was because it was added to a "Where Are They Now?" show which got people interested in the song again.

Coming into the '80's I didn't know what to expect from the music industry, having been a big fan of the '70's, but as it turns out, the '80's carried a little momentum over from the 70's, reached its peak in '85, leveled out in '86, and began a steep decline by '87. Below I've listed the number of songs I enjoyed off Billboard's Hot 100 year-end list, from year to year, and ranked each year from least to best:
10) 1989...09 songs
09) 1988...10 songs
08) 1987...17 songs
07) 1980...21 songs
06) 1981...22 songs
05) 1984...28 songs
04) 1982...29 songs
03) 1983...30 songs
02) 1986...31 songs
01) 1985...32 songs
I agree! '85 is by far my fav year (maybe ever) for hits!!
@@WorseReviews: 1986 was right there, nipping at the heels of '85, but if I had to choose, I may give '77 and '78 the nod.
@@jacksquat4140 Agreed fully
@@WorseReviews: While I believe '78 was the greatest single year in music, and '77 and '78 were the best years, back to back, I think the three best years, back to back to back, was '84, '85, and '86. How do things stack up for you?
@@jacksquat4140 '84-'86 were def the three best years, we're in full agreement there, I'd say '79 might be best year for music overall

@@theodoreritola9758 If release dates are what counts, then you must really disagree with this video, because some of the songs, like the second one, were released in 1979. You've just proven my concern to be right!
