The beautiful voice of an angry angel. That last line where he sings Sounnnnnnnnnds of silence is phenomenal

He was actually sick with the flu during this performance and still sounded that good it's crazy!

I have seen dozens of reactions to this and usually the reactor is so overwhelmed by the time that David hits that sustained note at the end, they barely notice. That and the octave change at the beginning of the third verse are the highlights for me.

The whole song is absolutely brilliant but that sustained SOUNNNNNNNNNNNND is perfection and for me the best part

David Draiman was trained classically as a Jewish cantor. He continuously works with a vocal coach in order to keep his voice undamaged by the distortion he typically uses. His voice is one of my absolute favorites, slipping in and out of smooth, clean, gorgeous, tones to that rasp and distortion. Once you hear his technique stripped down like this, go back and listen to his heavier music ... it's always there, always melodic, even in the screams. I understand he was ill the evening of this performance, which is just insane that he performed so beautifully! Yes, go check the video, which is a masterpiece of stunning imagery to go with the studio version. They do have a few other songs that will surprise you with the sound ... "Hold Onto Memories," "A Reason To Fight," "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You," (a cover of Sting's sing) and "The Light." I love all of the produced videos, which are artistic, symbolic and support the message of the song. Not that I'm a Disturbed fan or anything ... lol. Sounds like you've been away for a bit - come on back and listen to where their music is now. You won't be sorry!

I understand that a Jewish "cantor" is actually a hazzan. Just FYI.

His father and grandfather were also "Hazzans" or Jewish Temple Cantors.
So that voice runs in the family.

Simply amazing!! Towards the end, he goes from this raspy gravely voice to this crisp, clean voice ending. Brilliant!!

Thanks for a great reaction! Each time you asked, "did you hear it?", I was saying YES! It's such an amazing rendition of this classic song... and the live version is my favorite!

Try listening to The Light, and also Hold on to the Memories. Both so beautiful in different ways. I never knew that his voice was so lovely until this song cover. Beautiful.

The most amazing part of this is that he was very I'll when he did this. That's why he is sitting down. He had the flu, real bad, when he did this performance.

it’s called vocal fry, a technique used by a lot of rock singers. Amazing that he went smooth and fry across 2+ octaves, awesome

When God was giving out voices, he asked David, do you want the voice of an angel or a demon and he said "yes!"
