I saw this movie in 1973, in 1983 I did an interpretation for Charlton Heston during an interview for the UNESCO, in 1989 I graduated from interpretation and translation school. Charlton Heston never knew it but that interview changed my life, may he RIP.
Great, very sad though that Hollywood payed almost non attention when Heston passed away. A pure shame

My seventh grade science teacher was oddly obsessed with this movie and couldn't wait to show it to the class. My only vivid recollection, from all those years ago, was the statement, "Soylent Green is PEOPLE!"
My dad often remembers this movie and tells me about how his teacher made them watch it as a kid..I think it really scarred him.
That was a skit on Saturday Night Live too and as a child I didn't get it...just laughed at the predictive programming...now I've been watching and rewatching this movie since 2018 and yeah, I can see all this stuff happening as part of their wicked agenda
My dad had a weird fascination with this movie. I don’t remember the first time I watched it with him but he said I laughed so hard I teared up at the end when he desperately screamed out “SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE!” On one hand I find that kinda funny but on the other hand I kinda hate that story because it makes kid-me sound like a sociopath.

In the same episode chief wiggum is at the golf course yet moe gets the exhaust fumes of his car and starts smokin out the inside of the mindmill. So is that to reinforce that they're talkin about Soylent green with increased fumes or climate change? Seeing as they're in a 'wind' mill to associate it with weather. And the 'mill' part, milling people? They're kinda cramped inside as well, overpopulation? This is the most underrated movie and really terrifying how the future will be.
It's a wonder that the author wasn't assassinated and his death made to look like an accident.
There is no way the future is like this; this made sense when it was made, but we're never going to be cannibalizing people for food, the current food practices mean that would never ever make any sense. Overpopulation is also not likely to be a big deal.

Happy New Year 2022! I first saw this on TV as a Friday night movie in 1975 and we've caught up to 2022. As an 8-9 year old in Phoenix in 1975, I remember when those same model garbage trucks used to work the alleys picking up trash. As I am a Native American (Navajo/Meskwaki ancestry), I dread to know what Soylent Red is made of.

For me this was the zenith of western Civilization and maybe even the zenith of humanity in general. However i still believe there is hope. If overpopulation ever becomes a problem you will probably see some form of racism from governments around the world in order to divide people and have them kill each other. The document accompanying the award reads, in part: "Edward G. Robinson, who achieved greatness as a player, a patron of the arts, and a dedicated citizen ... in sum, a Renaissance man. From his friends in the industry he loves." Sadly, he died 2 months before the actual awards ceremony, though the results had already been voted upon long before. Gone, but **NOWHERE NEAR FORGOTTEN**...

This movie has been chosen to be on goggle play for the world to see. Not a coincidence.
It's wild because Soylent Green is people isn't even the twist that sticks with me now. To me, the real twist, is what 'going home' means. I had meant to watch this movie for years and years and finally did so 3 or 4 years back and when you see Heston's friend 'go home' it struck me as incredibly sad and as profoundly 'true.' We will undoubtedly live to see this become the best possible outcome for many people and it's such a sad state of affairs.

I was at school when this came out. In Geography we were taught that the World resources were running out. For example oil & gas, we were told, would be depleted by the year 2000! So i wondered at the time, is this film be far off the mark?

This movie was SO outdated! It portrayed a world that since 1973, everything has gone downhill for the past 50 years. Charlton Heston’s character is in his 40’s (totally middle-age in 1973) and had never eaten real food in his life before that simple meal of pilfered beef, lettuce, onions, and apples recently purchased for the wealthy man he was investigating. And the wealthy man’s apartment had beaded curtains, popcorn ceilings, shag area carpets, and frosted shower doors, which were very common with new middle-class homes purchased at the time.

Don't worry. I totally knew the ending (I think everyone does) but watched it for the first time today.
IT WAS AN AMAZING MOVIE.
...But it may not be for the casual viewer (or people who just like Transformers stuff) because in order to feel the real effect of the emotional scenes, you need to be invested in the world of the movie and the situation of the humans living there.
It's Depressing af.

here we are in 2021... talking about "dont eat meat it causes pollution" and "you can grow meat from your own flesh and it isn't that bad". Not to mention the Soylent Green powder meal replacements that Walmart (and possibly other places) sell. Now we are looking at upcoming food shortages because we are now becoming a stimulus run country....

The evil "agenda" here is fast food corporations, partly responsible for the obesity crisis, finding a way to make money off of vegetarians. While synthetic meat isn't ready for prime-time, I wholeheartedly support it, since it could help avert a climate catastrophe while also helping feed the world. Either that or we should start eating bugs just like our ancient ancestors. No good reason not too. But not butterflies, they're too cute.

When the elitist has been studying their own causes and effects of what they put on society throughout the centuries, they pretty much can foresee and pinpoint were the people's they rule over will end up. They pretty much know that those who are dependent on the system of the rulers of capitalism will end up in the chaos and frenzy of savagery and cannibalism after the elites have taken all the food and wealth for themselves.

This is a hell of a trailer it blows me away.
It's great the way they pretty much give away the 'secret of Soylent Green' in the trailer.
